‘Paddington The Musical’ Is Officially Coming To Broadway, And Here’s What We Know So Far

Apparently, all the rumors were true. Everyone’s favorite marmalade-eating, Peruvian-British bear is coming to New York City in spring 2027. According to Playbill, after a rave showing at the Savoy Theater in London’s West End, Paddington The Musical is officially Broadway-bound.

The outline confirms that the production will set up shop at Al Hirschfeld Theatre next year, taking over the Tony Award-winning musical Moulin Rouge!‘s old home. Currently, Paddington The Musical‘s opening night is scheduled for April 18, 2027, with previews beginning as early as March 30, 2027.

Although casting information has not yet been released, Playbill revealed that Jim Carnahan and Jason Thinger of Jim Carnahan Casting are at the helm with Annabelle Davis on board as casting consultant. The team looks forward to bringing the music and lyrics by Tom Fletcher and a book by Jessica Swale to New York City’s eager theater crowd.

In statements shared with the outlet, Fletcher and Swale discuss the musical’s upcoming migration.

“It has been the greatest adventure of my career to be entrusted with bringing Paddington’s story to life on stage alongside my brilliant creative collaborators Jessica, Luke, and our producers Sonia and Eliza,” said Fletcher. “The response from West End audiences of all ages has been unlike anything I’ve ever experienced. It’s a great privilege to welcome New York audiences into Paddington’s world of curiosity, and I am absolutely thrilled at the opportunity for this very rare and special bear to be on Broadway.”

Swale added, “I couldn’t be more excited to bring Paddington to New York. As a city that breathes theater, storytelling, and imagination, Broadway is the perfect place to celebrate this exuberant and heart-filled story. I can’t wait. Let’s just hope Paddington loves Big Apples as much as he loves oranges.”

The rest of Paddington The Musical‘s confirmed creative team includes Luke Sheppard (director), Ellen Kane (choreographer), Matt Brind (music supervisor and orchestrator), Tom Pye (scenic designer), Gabriella Slade (costume designer), Tahra Zafar (puppet designer), Neil Austin (lighting designer), Gareth Owen (sound designer), Ash J Woodward (video designer and animator), Campbell Young Associates (hair, wig, and makeup designer).

While Sonia Friedman Productions, STUDIOCANAL, and Eliza Lumley Productions are working on behalf of Universal Music UK, who owns the rights to Paddington, to produce its transfer.

Paddington The Musical is scheduled to open on April 18, 2027, inside the Al Hirschfeld Theatre. While previews of the musical are set to begin on March 30, 2027.
