Taylor Bickett is a storyteller at heart. Hailing from Indiana, she’s been writing music since before she can remember. Taylor’s intimate lyrics and outstanding vocal range gracefully overlay organic indie pop production to create introspective singer/songwriter tunes. After her wistful, Gen Z anthem “QUARTER LIFE CRISIS” hit the internet in 2022, the track compelled a generation struggling with their newfound adulthood to share their own photos and stories on TikTok soundtracked by her song. The trending audio amassed over 1.5 million fan-made videos, and “QUARTER LIFE CRISIS” quickly accumulated over 50 million streams. Celebrities including Drew Barrymore and Kevin Jonas showcased their own transformations since age sixteen atop Taylor’s track, which features the lyrics, “I swear 16 was yesterday, but now I’m closer to 28.” Taylor’s subsequent 2023 EP grown up and lonely demonstrates her knack for writing honest and unfiltered songs that resonate with an entire generation. She kicked off 2024 with her single “I Like Mondays” which resonated with fans when she quickly wrote and posted the song on the 1st of January (a Monday), and her second EP, This Isn’t Me Missing You, was released that fall. In March of 2025, Taylor released “The Crime,” a song that focuses on violence against women, donating 30% of the proceeds from the song and video to The Circle, a global charity for women created by singer Annie Lennox. That summer, Taylor played her first headline shows and shortly after, hit the road with Charlotte Lawrence. She has also opened for artists such as Ron Pope, Christian French, BLÜ EYES, and Brynn Cartelli. Taylor’s debut album, Nothing I Can’t Undo, released on July 17th, 2026. The eleven-track record includes previously released songs “Wild Dogs,” “Good Thing Short,” “Firefly Collector,” “Goldstar,” “Driving In The Dark,” and “Nothing I Can’t Undo.” She will embark on a full US headline tour this fall.

As granddaughters of the legendary Sam Cooke, daughters of renowned soul and R&B artists Womack & Womack, and nieces of Bobby Womack, they carry on the Womack family’s musical traditions, infusing their work with the soul and passion that has defined the family’s impact on music for generations. Growing up in London, Paris, Amsterdam, Thailand, The Bahamas, and Kenya, the sisters were immersed in music from a young age. Their parents’ influence was central to their development as artists. The sisters spent their formative years touring internationally alongside their parents and their four other siblings as part of Womack & Womack later known as The House of Zekkariyas. BG, Zeimani, and Kucha continued to find their footing as a trio, touring as background singers for their uncle Bobby Womack’s final tours. Growing up together in song, their inherent bond is apparent in their sound, style, and powerful harmonies. With the backing of the Womack family’s musical legacy, the sisters continue to captivate audiences with their dynamic voices, emotive lyrics, and heartfelt performances. Russell Dickerson belongs to a class of country singers who slyly incorporate modern R&B rhythms into their bright, tuneful, mainstream country-pop -- a class that also features Sam Hunt and Thomas Rhett. Dickerson first started to gain traction in late 2015 with the single "Yours." The song hit number one on the Country Airplay charts in 2017, starting a series of three Country chart-toppers for Dickerson ("Blue Tacoma" and "Every Little Thing" followed in 2018) that set up the 2020 release of his second album, Southern Symphony. Two years later, the eponymously titled Russell Dickerson yielded the hit "She Likes It." Dickerson stayed busy in 2023 with an expanded version of his self-titled album, a deluxe release of The Afterparty, and the summery Three Months Two Streets Down EP. The 2025 hit "Happen to Me" anchored his fourth album, Famous Back Home. Early the next year, Dickerson issued the EP Worth Your Wild. As a native of Nashville, Dickerson grew up in the thick of Music City and by the time he hit college, he knew he wanted to pursue music professionally. He completed a degree in music at Belmont University and in 2010 scored representation with Creative Artists Agency, who helped him land a publishing deal in addition to repping him as a performer. Dickerson's first attempt at a solo career -- 2011's "That's My Girl" -- didn't go anywhere, but in 2013, "Green Light" became a hit on satellite radio. Over the next couple of years, Dickerson's music became poppier, a makeover that paid off once "Yours" became a country radio hit in late 2015, leading to the release of the Yours EP in 2016. The EP was expanded into a full-length album of the same name the following year, which reached number five on Billboard's Country Albums Chart and landed a pair of hits with "Blue Tacoma" and the gold-selling single "Every Little Thing." February 2020 saw the release of the single "Love You Like I Used To," which hit number five on Billboard's Country Songs chart and paved the way for Dickerson's second LP. Released in December 2020, Southern Symphony featured a guest appearance by Florida Georgia Line and spawned a second Top 30 country single with "Home Sweet." It also hit number 14 on Billboard's Top Country Albums chart. In early 2022, he issued the platinum-selling single "She Likes It" (featuring Jack Scott), which later appeared on his third full-length, the eponymously titled Russell Dickerson. Released that November, the album saw Dickerson adopt a more reflective tone while still delivering chart-topping country-pop bangers like "I Wonder" and the Jake Scott-assisted "She Likes It." The following year saw the release of the breezy, coastal-themed EP Three Months Two Streets Down. He also released an expanded version of his self-titled album, The Afterparty, which featured ten additional tracks, including the single "Red Dirt Church," featuring Needtobreathe. In August 2024, Dickerson delivered "Bones," an uplifting romantic anthem that hit 36 on the Country Airplay chart. The song also heralded the singer's fourth full-length album, 2025's Famous Back Home. A second single off the album, "Happen to Me, arrived in February 2025, cracking the Top 40 of the Hot 100 and reaching 14 on the Hot Country Songs chart. The album itself appeared in August, touching the upper half of the Billboard 200 and making the Country Top 40. Dickerson co-produced it with returning collaborator Josh Kerr. An alternate version of "Happen to Me" appeared later that year as a collaboration with the Jonas Brothers. Dickerson kicked off 2026 with the EP Worth Your Wild. - Biography by Stephen Thomas Erlewine

Franklin Jonas is an artist and songwriter from New Jersey, carving his own path with a sound rooted in storytelling, reflection, and renewal. After releasing his debut EP Sewer Rat in his early twenties, Franklin took a step back from releasing music to discover his voice, his influences, and his sense of self. That exploration gave rise to his new project, Franklin Jonas & The Byzantines – inspired by the idea that life can be rebuilt after collapse, just as the Roman Empire lived on in Byzantium for a thousand years after its supposed fall. For Franklin, the project represents survival, reinvention, and belief in what comes next. His new singles Village Liquors, Road Soda and Break The Levee are the first glimpses into this new chapter. Village Liquors, written with Chris Gelbuda, balances nostalgia and introspection. It’s a genuine reflection on the trials of growing up, the memories that haunt and heal, and the hope that always returns at the start of something new. Road Soda, written with Tim Bruns and Aidan Harbeson, is about the struggle of trying to understand your feelings of wanting to self-destruct in the face of all of your dreams coming true. Break the Levee, written with Chord Overstreet and Zeph Park, is a song about communication. It’s about welcoming the flood of emotions pent up inside, knowing that the foundations of love are strong enough to withstand the storm. The joyous, contemporary bluegrass composition manages to encapsulate the peace found in trust. The Franklin Jonas & the Byzantines’ style of blending traditional instrumentation with modern synthesizer twists makes for a lively sound unique to itself. With influences spanning Gillian Welch, Dave Rawlings, Dan Reeder, and Ruston Kelly, Franklin’s music blends intimate lyricism with timeless Americana storytelling. His songs capture the grit of what’s been lived and the glow of what’s still to come.

Bruised and bloodied, Knocked Loose open up the pit with a brutal sound that falls between hardcore punk and metalcore. The Kentucky-based group issued a pair of EPs before inking a deal with Pure Noise ahead of the release of their first full-length effort, 2016's uncompromising Laugh Tracks. The band continued to hone their beatdown hardcore sound on subsequent efforts like 2019's A Different Shade of Blue and 2024's You Won't Go Before You're Supposed To, both of which broke into the upper reaches of the Billboard charts. Led by screaming frontman Bryan Garris, the Oldham County, Kentucky quintet is also composed of guitarists Isaac Hale and Cole Crutchfield, bassist Kevin Otten, and drummer Dylan Isaacs. In 2011, Garris, Otten, and Hale joined drummer Jared Barron (Concealer, Greyhaven) for an early incarnation of the group (a teenaged Garris honed his early vocal skills by practicing in various area bands with Barron). Later, they enlisted Isaacs as their permanent drummer. Their first EP, Pop Culture, was released on Little Heart in 2014, quickly followed by a split EP with Louisville quintet Damaged Goods. Knocked Loose's debut LP arrived in 2016. Laugh Tracks (Pure Noise) debuted on the Billboard 200 and in the Top 50 on six separate side charts. The band teamed up with prolific engineer Will Putney for their sophomore effort, 2019's punishing A Different Shade of Blue, which introduced elements of thrash and melodic death metal into their already punitive sound. In 2021, Knocked Loose released the potent Tear in the Fabric of Life, a conceptual six-song EP about grief and isolation that was accompanied by a short, animated film created by Swedish filmmaker Magnus Jonsson. 2023 saw the release of Upon Loss, a double-single comprised of "Deep in the Willow" and "Everything Is Quiet Now," both of which were produced by Drew Fulks (aka WZRD BLD). In February 2024, the band announced that their forthcoming third long-player, You Won't Go Before You're Supposed To, would be released later that May. Working again with the Grammy-nominated pop producer, Knocked Loose explored every sonic facet of modern hardcore, delivering an inventive and relentless ten-song set with features from Poppy and Chris Motionless. The album debuted at the number 23 position on the U.S. Billboard 200 and charted throughout the world. - Biography by Neil Z. Yeung Miami-area rapper Denzel Curry balances rhymes packed with intense, introspective content and an evolving production palette that draws on hazy cloud rap and classic hip-hop songcraft. After issuing a series of well-received mixtapes in the early 2010s, he made his official studio debut with 2013's underground favorite Nostalgic 64, later entering the charts for the first time with his 2018 major-label debut, TA13OO. His rise continued with 2019's Zuu and a 2020 joint release with Kenny Beats called Unlocked. In 2022, he returned with his fifth album, the mature and introspective Melt My Eyez See Your Future, and tided fans over with the 2024 mixtape King of the Mischievous South, Vol. 2. 2026 saw Curry teamed up with A$AP Ferg, TiaCorine, Bktherula, and Key Nyata for the collaborative release, Strictly 4 the Scythe. Born in Carol City, Florida, to Bahamian and Native American parents, Curry started writing poetry as an elementary school student, later battle rapping at his local Boys & Girls Club. Influenced as much by 2Pac as Buju Banton, his lyrical gift and packed bars were combined with his rabid energy on early mixtapes like King Remembered Underground Tape 1991-1995 (2011) and King of the Mischievous South, Vol. 1: Underground Tape 1996 (2012). Curry benefitted from his role as an affiliate of SpaceGhostPurrp's Raider Klan, appearing on their Greatest Hits tapes in 2012 and 2013. By the end of high school, he began penning songs that would eventually appear on his debut full-length, Nostalgic 64. The 2013 effort featured Robb Bank$ and Odd Future's Mike G. Curry followed the critical success of Nostalgic with a double EP titled 32 Zel/Planet Shrooms. His sophomore LP arrived in 2016. Imperial included the single "Knotty Head" (featuring Rick Ross), as well as "Zenith" (featuring Joey Bada$$) and "ULT" (a reworking of his 2015 single "Ultimate"). After leaking a pair of demos on SoundCloud and offering several cryptic posts on social media, Curry released the 13 EP in June 2017. A string of singles -- "Skywalker," "Sumo," and "Uh Huh" with IDK -- followed into 2018. That May, Curry released "Percs," the lead single from his third album, TA13OO. Split into three acts (Light, Gray, and Dark), the set marked Curry's first appearance on the charts, entering the Billboard 200 at number 28 upon release. TA13OO also featured the single "Clout Cobain" and appearances by GoldLink, J.I.D., and more. Following a viral 2019 cover of Rage Against the Machine's "Bulls on Parade" for Australian Triple J radio, Curry returned in May of that year with the single "Ricky." Named after his father, it was the first taste of his fourth album, Zuu, a summer-friendly set influenced by everything that made him, including his hometown, Miami bass music, local Florida rap icons such as Trick Daddy, Plies, and Trina, and his parents. The critically acclaimed set debuted just outside the Top 30 and featured guests Rick Ross, Kiddo Marv, Ice Billion Berg, and more. Months later, Curry joined producer Kenny Beats on his online freestyle series, The Cave. The results of that appeared on the joint project Unlocked. Arriving in early 2020, the brisk set showcased Curry's deft wordplay and quick wit and was shortly followed by the highly collaborative Unlocked 1.5. In 2022, Curry brought a cosmopolitan sound to his cinematic fifth LP Melt My Eyez See Your Future, which featured an incredibly diverse range of producers including Robert Glasper, JPEGMafia, Thundercat, and frequent collaborator Kenny Beats. He was also joined by guests slowthai, T-Pain, Saul Williams, Rico Nasty, JID, and many more. Curry released the jazzy, neo-soul-leaning Live at Electric Lady EP in 2023, followed by the Juicy J collaboration "Blood on My Nikez." While working toward the release of his next studio album, Designed by Angels, Curry released his sixth mixtape, King of the Mischievous South, Vol. 2 in July of 2024. The project featured appearances from Project Pat, Juicy J, Maxo Kream, and many others, and provided a follow-up to his 2012 mixtape King of the Mischievous South, Vol. 1: Underground Tape 1996. For his next project Curry linked up with A$AP Ferg, TiaCorine, Bktherula, and Key Nyata to create the Scythe. The collaboration saw the outfit paying homage to Southern rap through a forward-looking filter with the resulting album, Strictly 4 the Scythe, being issued in early 2026. - Biography by Neil Z. Sub Urban is an American singer, songwriter, and record producer recognized for his alternative pop and electropop music, often featuring haunting melodies, dark lyrical themes, and bass-heavy production. Born in Nyack, New York, to a French Canadian father and Taiwanese mother, he was raised in Ridgewood, New Jersey, and trained in classical piano from age 6 before self-teaching music production at age 15 using free software. Maisonneuve adopted the stage name Sub Urban in high school, drawing inspiration from urban decay and suburban isolation, and dropped out in 10th grade to focus on his music career full-time.[4][5] His breakthrough came with the 2019 single "Cradles," which exploded in popularity through TikTok viral challenges, amassing over 1 billion views and peaking at No. 1 on the Billboard Alternative Songs airplay chart after Warner Records signed him. This success led to his debut EP, Thrill Seeker (2020), featuring tracks like "Freak" with REI AMI, followed by his first studio album, HIVE (2022), which explored themes of mental health and relationships through experimental soundscapes. In 2025, Sub Urban released his sophomore album If Nevermore on June 6 via AWAL after parting ways with Warner Records, including singles such as "Skinny Loser," "Make Me Forget," and "Mascara," which highlighted his evolving production style blending trap influences with cinematic visuals. Later that year, on October 30, he dropped the single "Mercury," produced with Geoffrey Hufford, accompanied by a music video and preceding the November dates of his Anhedonia Tour, which concluded with a performance at Mexico City's Corona Capital festival on November 14. Sub Urban's music videos, often self-directed with horror-inspired aesthetics, have garnered millions of views on YouTube, solidifying his reputation as an independent artist crafting immersive, genre-blending experiences.

Switchfoot are California-based alternative rock band who, after gaining a foothold in the contemporary Christian music scene, went mainstream with 2003's The Beautiful Letdown, a double-platinum album that straddled the line between sacred and secular rock music. Emerging in the late '90s with a pair of indie LPs marketed to CCM radio, the band began adding elements of synth rock, post-grunge, and power pop to its oeuvre in the 2000s, resulting in chart-topping major-label successes like Nothing Is Sound (2005) and Hello Hurricane (2009), the latter of which brought home a Grammy Award for Best Rock Gospel Album. Describing themselves as "Christian by faith, not by genre," Switchfoot continued to beat the modern rock drum into the 2010s and beyond, releasing a string of well-received efforts like Where the Light Shines Through, Native Tongue, and Interrobang. After re-recording a 20th anniversary version of The Beautiful Letdown in 2023, they came back with 2026's Forever Now, an album of new material. Years before Switchfoot's commercial breakthrough, though, the group struggled to make a dent in the San Diego area, where singer/guitarist Jonathan Foreman, bassist Tim Foreman, and drummer Chad Butler began playing together in 1996. The line-up logged several shows under its original name, Chin Up, before adopting the Switchfoot moniker and attracting the attention of singer/songwriter Charlie Peacock. Although Peacock signed the band to his own label, Re:Think, Switchfoot moved over to the roster of Sparrow Records following Sparrow's acquisition of the smaller label. Now signed to one of the largest Christian labels in the country, Switchfoot temporarily tabled their plans to reach out to a broader audience. Their first two albums, The Legend of Chin and New Way to Be Human, were marketed almost exclusively to Christian listeners, who took an immediate shine to the band's music. Keyboardist Jerome Fontamillas joined the band for 2000's Learning to Breathe, which found Switchfoot taking more steps toward a mainstream alt-rock sound. Breathe became a transitional record for the group, earning a Grammy nomination for Best Rock Gospel Album and selling over 500,000 copies, thus achieving gold status. Its success, coupled with the band's presence on the hit soundtrack to the 2002 film A Walk to Remember, set Switchfoot up for a healthy major-label run. The Beautiful Letdown, Switchfoot's debut album for Columbia Records, was issued during the spring of 2003. It represented the quartet's full evolution from a Christian group to a mainstream rock act, eventually earning double-platinum sales and producing two Top 20 hits: "Dare You to Move" and "Meant to Live." Switchfoot returned in September 2005 with their fifth album, Nothing Is Sound, which debuted at number three on the Billboard 200. Nothing Is Sound went gold, sparked another radio hit in "Stars," and was the first Switchfoot recording to include the work of additional guitarist Andrew Shirley (formerly a member of the contemporary Christian group All Together Separate), who'd been a touring member of Switchfoot since 2003. Wasting little time, the band returned to the studio with veteran U.K. producer Tim Palmer to begin work on its sixth album, one that found the guys broadening their musical scope. The resulting Oh! Gravity. appeared at the end of 2006. A year later, Jon Foreman announced the band's decision to leave Columbia and form its own label, lowercase people records. At the same time, Foreman began releasing a string of solo EPs, each of them named after a specific season. He also formed Fiction Family, a folk-pop side project, with Nickel Creek guitarist Sean Watkins. Fiction Family's self-titled debut was released in January 2009. Also in 2009, Switchfoot released the studio album Hello Hurricane. Produced by the band along with Mike Elizondo, it won the 2011 Grammy Award for Best Rock Gospel Album. Several months after the band's Grammy win, Switchfoot returned with Vice Verses, an album that highlighted the band's rhythm section. The album performed well, hitting number eight on the Billboard 200 and reaching number one on Billboard's Christian Albums chart. It also earned the band a 2013 GMA Dove Award nomination in the category of Rock/Contemporary Song of the Year. While on tour in 2013, Switchfoot made a film called Fading West, documenting the band's life-long love of surfing. Their next album, also entitled Fading West, landed in January 2014. It saw the band freed from the typical constraints of the three-minute pop song, experimenting with unusual instruments and musical textures. Later that September, the group issued a short EP of supplemental material from the project, Fading West: The Edge of the Earth - Unreleased Songs. In 2016, Switchfoot delivered the studio album Where the Light Shines Through, which featured production from John Fields (The Beautiful Letdown, Nothing Is Sound, Oh! Gravity.) and included the singles "Live It Well" and "Float." The album debuted at number three on the Christian Albums chart and hit the Top Ten on the Billboard 200. A year later, they released a re-recording of the album track "I Won't Let You Go," featuring vocals by Lauren Daigle. In 2018, the band hopped onto the soundtrack for Unbroken: Path to Redemption with the track "You Found Me." The band's 11th long-player, Native Tongue, arrived in January 2019 and took home a Dove Award for Rock/Contemporary Album of the Year. 2020's aptly named Covers EP saw the band put their own spin on songs by the likes of Frank Ocean, Vampire Weekend, and Harry Styles, and in 2021 they released the single "I Need You (To Be Wrong)" and "If I Were You" ahead of the arrival of their 12th full-length effort, Interrobang, which appeared later that August. The following year saw the band issue their first holiday effort, the cheekily titled This Is Our Christmas Album. Throughout 2023, Switchfoot celebrated the 20th anniversary of their 2003 breakout, offering a re-recorded edition of The Great Letdown, subtitled (Our Version), and touring in support of it. They returned with new music in early 2026, releasing "Wake Up, Mr. Crow," the lead single from their 14th album, Forever Now. - Biography by Jason Ankeny

Sophie Allison has always written candidly about her life, making Soccer Mommy one of indie rock’s most interesting and beloved artists of the last decade. Allison has used Soccer Mommy’s songs as a vehicle to sort through the thoughts and encounters that inevitably come with the reality of growing up. After all, Soccer Mommy began as a bedroom-to-Bandcamp exercise with teenage Allison posting her plaintive songs as demos. Over the years, though, she has often enhanced that sound, using the endless production possibilities, newly at her fingertips, to outstrip singer-songwriter stereotypes. The records would start with songwriting’s kernels of truth, and she would then imagine all the unexpected shapes they could take. Every Soccer Mommy record has felt like a surprise. On Soccer Mommy’s fourth album, the tender but resolute Evergreen, Allison is again writing about her life. But that life’s different these days: Since making her previous album, 2022’s Sometimes, Forever, Allison experienced a profound and also very personal loss. New songs emerged from that change, unflinching and sometimes even funny reflections on what she was feeling. (Speaking of funny, this is a Soccer Mommy album, so there’s an ode to Allison’s purple-haired wife in the game Stardew Valley, too.) These songs were, once again, Allison’s way to sort through life, to ground herself. She wanted them to sound that way, too, to feel as true to the demos—raw and relatable, unvarnished and honest—as possible. The songwriting would again lead where the production would follow. Nothing overindulgent, everything real. Led by singer, songwriter, and guitarist Lindsey Jordan, Snail Mail make unsettled, candidly introspective indie rock songs. Lo-fi production and moody textures defined the group's 2018 breakout debut album, Lush. Adding components like samples, synthesizers, and strings, Snail Mail both polished and coarsened surfaces on the Brad Cook-produced follow-up, 2021's Valentine. Released in 2026, Ricochet further expanded the project's sound with both lusher string arrangements and denser electronic textures recorded with Aron Kobayashi Ritch of Momma. Raised in suburban Baltimore, Maryland, Jordan started playing guitar at the age of five. As a teenager, she took lessons from Mary Timony (Helium, Ex Hex). Having already made other friends and connections in the Baltimore and D.C. music scenes by her mid-teens, in 2016, at the age of 16, she released her debut EP, Habit, on Priests-run Sister Polygon Records. Recorded and produced by Priests' G.L. Jaguar and Jason Sauvage (Sneaks), it featured Jordan on vocals and guitar, Ryan Viera on bass, and Shawn Durham on drums. An NPR Tiny Desk concert and an Audiotree Live EP followed in 2017, as did tours with Waxahatchee, Girlpool, and Beach Fossils. Before the year was through, Snail Mail signed a record deal with Matador. Recorded with producer Jake Aron, who had engineered albums for Solange and Grizzly Bear, Snail Mail's full-length debut, Lush, arrived in June 2018. It saw Jordan's personal lyrics and dreamy guitar style backed by touring bandmates Alex Bass (bass) and Ray Brown (drums). That same month, they opened shows in New England for Belle and Sebastian. Lush eventually landed on the Billboard independent, alternative, and rock charts, reaching as high as number two on the Heatseekers Albums chart. Jordan's sudden fame, a breakup, and some time away from music all informed Snail Mail's second full-length, Valentine. Written in 2019 and 2020, it was later recorded with Bass, Brown, and producer Brad Cook (Bon Iver, Waxahatchee), who brought in synths and a string section, among other additions to her sound. Far from a February release, Valentine came out on Matador in November 2021. The album was well-received by critics and fans alike, reaching number 61 on the Billboard 200 and cracking the Top 40 of the U.K.'s album chart. The next few years were spent in phases of touring and dormancy, with some minor forays into acting. In 2023, Snail Mail released Valentine (Demos), an EP with demo recordings of tracks that were fully realized on the Valentine album. The band went on tour with Waxahatchee and Tim Heidecker in 2024, and opened a tour for Dinosaur Jr. in 2025. Following in March 2026, Ricochet was written during a period of change that included a relocation from Brooklyn to North Carolina and which saw Jordan moving from themes of turbulent youth to more-existential concerns. Recorded with producer/bassist Aron Kobayashi Ritch (Momma), it featured still lusher strings and notably denser electronic textures, including voice effects. - Biography by Marcy Donelson

Rise Against are a fiery American punk and melodic hardcore outfit who emerged from the fertile Chicago hardcore scene in the early 2000s, employing a vitriolic but melodic mix of old-school punk gang vocals and pick slides, and blazing post-grunge hooks. The band's David & Goliath ethos and progressive, human, and animal rights-forward politics made them darlings of the underground scene, where they amassed a devoted fan base with their first two albums on Fat Wreck Chords. Some of those fans were wary of the group's decision to sign with a major (Geffen) in 2003, but the resulting Siren Song of the Counter Culture was certified gold and managed to retain the band's feisty D.I.Y. aesthetic. They hit their commercial peak with their fifth full-length effort, Appeal to Reason, which landed at number three on the Billboard 200, but later offerings like Endgame and The Black Market made a strong showing as well, with both releases going gold, and the former eventually turning platinum. In the next decade, Rise Against signed with Loma Vista and released the albums Nowhere Generation (2021) and Ricochet (2026). Rise Against formed in 1999 when ex-88 Fingers Louie bassist Joe Principe tapped area vocalist Tim McIlrath for a new project rooted in the sound and social vision of traditional hardcore. Joined by fellow 88 Fingers vet Dan Precision on guitar and, eventually, drummer Brandon Barnes, Rise Against signed to Fat Wreck and issued The Unraveling in 2001. Precision left the band that same year, replaced by Todd Mohney. Extensive touring followed, leading to their sophomore outing, 2002's Revolutions Per Minute. After a solid response from fans and critics alike, as well as a stint on the Warped Tour, Rise Against left the Fat Wreck fold for DreamWorks/Geffen. By this point, guitar duties were being handled by Chris Chasse (Reach the Sky). Rise Against made their major-label debut in August 2004 with the acclaimed Siren Song of the Counter Culture. They toured steadily after the album's release, received plenty of solid press, and even saw Counter Culture crack the Billboard Top 200. In 2005, Rise Against appeared in the skateboarding film Lords of Dogtown, playing an old-school Cali punk band. (They performed a rousing version of Black Flag's "Nervous Breakdown" for the film's soundtrack.) Rise Against continued to tour throughout that summer, including a spot at the U.K.'s Reading and Leeds festivals in August. Their fourth album, The Sufferer & the Witness, appeared in July 2006 and its debut at number ten on the Billboard Top 200 was their highest yet. The band spent the summer tearing up Warped's main stage before hooking up with Thursday and Billy Talent that fall. Rise Against continued playing shows into 2007, but their extensive tour schedule eventually proved to be too much for Chasse, who bowed out that February. The band soldiered on, enlisting Only Crime's Zach Blair to temporarily take his place. In 2008, Rise Against moved to Interscope and released Appeal to Reason, which marked a more melodic shift for the band and was their most successful album to date, reaching number three on the Billboard chart. For their next album, the group hit the studio with punk mainstay Bill Stevenson, who's played with Black Flag, Descendents, and All. Their sixth album, the platinum-selling Endgame, was released early in 2011, and featured the politically charged single "Help Is on the Way," which was inspired by a trip to New Orleans and lamented the slow response time for aid to disaster-stricken areas. In 2013, the band delivered Long Forgotten Songs, a collection of B-sides and covers that helped whet fans' appetites for their blockbuster seventh studio album, The Black Market, which followed in 2014 and debuted at number three on the Billboard Top 200. In April 2017, the band issued "The Violence," the first single from their studio long-player Wolves, which arrived via Virgin Records later that May. The following year saw the release of The Ghost Note Symphonies, Vol 1, a compilation featuring reimagined versions of previously released songs, with orchestration and alternative instrumentation. In 2019, Rise Against released the sprawling all-vinyl retrospective Career Vinyl Book, with the single "Broken Dreams, Inc.," their first new song in three years, appearing in 2020 as part of the soundtrack for DC's Batman comic book series Dark Nights: Death Metal. That song, along with ten others, appeared on the band's ninth full-length effort, Nowhere Generation, which saw release in June 2021, making it to number four on Billboard's Top Rock Albums chart. The following year, the band issued Nowhere Generation II, a companion EP of songs written and recorded during the Nowhere Generation sessions. A three-year studio hiatus preceded the release of 2025's "Nod," a blazing call to action addressing socio-political tyranny. The song anchored the band's tenth studio effort, Ricochet, later that August. The LP saw Rise Against working with Australian producer Catherine Marks (Manchester Orchestra, Boygenius) on a set of potent songs rooted in themes of interconnectedness and existential angst. A pair of rallying non-album singles, "Katy Bar the Door" and "Living Undercover," kept up their momentum in 2026. - Biography by Johnny Loftus

A skilled multi-instrumental, singer, and songwriter, Theo Katzman is known as a founding member of indie funk group Vulfpeck as well as for his own blue-eyed soul-infused pop. He released his first solo album, the acoustic-minded Romance Without Finance, in 2011, the same year Vulfpeck emerged with their debut EP, Mit Peck. A primarily instrumental group modeled after classic R&B rhythm sections like Funk Brothers and the Meters, Vulfpeck hit the Billboard R&B chart for the first time with their full-length debut, 2015's Thrill of the Arts. Katzman's second solo album, 2017's Heartbreak Hits, expanded upon his debut, blending rock with singer/songwriter pop and soul. Growing up in Long Island, New York with a father who was a bebop trumpet player, Katzman joined his school orchestra on clarinet in the fourth grade but became more inspired to play music after discovering drums at age 12. (He eventually studied Afro-Cuban percussion under Richie Rodriguez.) He took up the guitar at 14 and started writing songs in high school. Katzman left his home state in 2004 to enroll in the Jazz and Contemplative Studies program at the University of Michigan. A year later, he joined the Ann Arbor instrumental outfit Toolbox, which eventually rebranded as electro-pop group My Dear Disco (and later Ella Riot). In addition to touring with the band as guitarist/backing vocalist, Katzman appeared on My Dear Disco's 2007 eponymous EP and 2008 full-length debut, Dancethink LP. Among the group's other members were Katzman's roommate, Joey Dosik (keyboards/saxophone), and bass player Joe Dart. In the meantime, Katzman completed his B.F.A. He went on to form Vulfpeck with Dart and two other music majors, Jack Stratton and Woody Goss. As a singer/songwriter, Katzman followed his 2010 EP Solo Acoustic with the self-released Romance Without Finance, his first studio album, in 2011. Dart, Goss, and Dosik were among the musicians who contributed to the recording. Vulfpeck's first EP, Mit Peck, also arrived in 2011. The next year, Katzman sang on fellow Michigan alum Charlene Kaye's solo album Animal Love, and Vulfpeck issued second EP Vollmilch. The band's third and fourth EPs, My First Car and Fugue State, followed in 2013 and 2014, respectively. In 2015, Vulfpeck's first full-length release, Thrill of the Arts, featured guests including Dosik, singer Antwaun Stanley, and guitarist Blake Mills. It hit the Top 20 of the Billboard R&B Albums chart and led to a performance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert. That year, Katzman also co-produced and performed on Michelle Chamuel's debut, Face the Fire, an album that also included guest spots by the rest of Vulfpeck. The funk group's second long-player, The Beautiful Game, arrived in 2016 and landed on a handful of Billboard charts, including R&B Albums, where it reached number six. Katzman contributed to Dosik's debut EP, Game Winner, also from 2016. Six years after self-releasing his solo debut, a Los Angeles-based Katzman followed up with 2017's Heartbreak Hits. Recorded in Ann Arbor, it featured appearances by Goss and Dart, with Katzman covering all drums and most guitar on the album. The year 2017 also brought the release of Vulfpeck's third LP, Mr. Finish Line, a Top 40 independent album that included appearances by Bootsy Collins and drummer James Gadson. Katzman also contributed percussion to the title track of Kesha's Rainbow LP alongside track producer Ben Folds. In 2018, Katzman and Dart collaborated on Dosik's retro-soul-styled full-length debut Inside Voice, and were part of his backing band for an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live! Vulfpeck returned to the Top 40 of Billboard's independent albums chart with that year's Hill Climber. The Katzman live album My Heart Is Live in Berlin appeared in 2019. - Biography by Marcy Donelson

California singer/songwriter Tim Atlas makes vibrant indie pop cross-pollinated with R&B, jazz, and sundry other influences. After competing on The Voice in 2015, Atlas released his 2018 EP All Talk! Born Tim Ferguson in Oakland, the San Jose-based artist grew up surrounded by music, joining marching band, jazz band, and drumline while also teaching himself guitar. After graduating with a degree in photography, he worked in recording studios as an engineer. He had an early stint in the alt-rock band April Chase before he released his solo debut EP, 2013's Lost in the Waiting. The six-song set showcased a sound similar to John Mayer and Ed Sheeran filtered through Phoenix or Borns. In 2015, Atlas caught a major break after he was chosen by Gwen Stefani to join her team on the ninth season of television singing competition The Voice. Selected based on his rendition of Ed Sheeran's "Give Me Love," Atlas made it to the seventh episode, where he was absorbed into Pharrell Williams' team. Although he was eliminated in the 19th episode, Atlas went on to release a series of singles in 2016 that featured more textured production and atmospherics, like "Compromised" and "The Other Side," all of which paved the way for his 2018 EP All Talk! Following headlining tours in the U.S and U.K., as well as supporting dates alongside No Vacation, the Lagoons, and Mating Ritual, Atlas returned with a third EP, Together Lonely. - Biography by Neil Z. Singer, songwriter, cellist, and producer Kelsey Lu constructs their dreamy, off-balance alternative music with a mix of classical chamber, folk, and electronic components, topping off intricate arrangements with soulful vocals. They released their first EP, the spare Church, in 2016 before expanding their palette with layered electronics and instruments including strings, guitars, and multi-tracked vocals. Their studio debut, Blood, appeared in 2019. Following collaborations with artists spanning Florence + the Machine, Yves Tumor, and Blood Orange, and divergences into film scoring, Lu returned with the Jack Antonoff- and Yves Rothman-produced So Help Me God in 2026. A classically trained cellist from Charlotte, North Carolina, Kelsey Elizabeth McJunkins enrolled at the North Carolina School of the Arts as an 18-year-old before relocating to New York City. They had contributed cello and/or vocals to recordings by Lady Gaga, Solange, and Blood Orange, among others, by the end of 2016, the year they made their label debut with the Church EP. Recorded live in a church in Greenpoint, Brooklyn, with their cello and a loop pedal, it was produced by Patrick Wimberly (Chairlift) and issued by True Panther Sounds. Lu performed cello on albums by Father John Misty and Kelela in 2017 before returning with a more complex, layered sound in 2018 on singles such as "Shades of Blue" and "Due West," which were among their first releases for Columbia Records. That year, they also collaborated with Sampha on a cover of Joni Mitchell's "River." In the meantime, they relocated to Los Angeles and appeared on 2018 LPs by Florence + the Machine, Oneohtrix Point Never, and again, Blood Orange. They started 2019 with an appropriately dreamy cover of 10cc's "I'm Not in Love," which appeared on their full-length debut, Blood. Months later, they issued a remix set titled Blood Transfusion. Into the 2020s, Lu teamed with Yves Tumor for "let all the poisons that lurk in the mud seep out," appeared on Onyx Collective's "Where or When," and collaborated with Boys Noize on "Ride or Die," as well as contributing to albums by prior collaborators, Neneh Cherry, Jamie xx, and others. A detour into film music resulted in their scores for the BAFTA-winning 2023 drama Earth Mama and the Peabody Award-winning 2024 documentary Daughters. Lu was back with a bang in March 2026 with the skittery, dance-oriented electro-acoustic track "Running Pain," the lead single from their sophomore LP, that June's So Help Me God, their debut for the Dirty Hit label. Produced by Jack Antonoff and Yves Rothman, its guests included Kamasi Washington, Kim Gordon, and Sampha. - Biography by Marcy Donelson

The genre-blending multi-hyphenate known as Shaboozey is an eclectic musician, filmmaker, author, and producer whose sound draws varied inspirations from country music, classic rock, '80s pop culture, Afrobeat, jazz, and hip-hop. Though his first output arrived in 2014 in the form of the "Jeff Gordon" single, he wouldn't release his official debut full-length until 2018. That album, Lady Wrangler, was followed by the country- and trap-infused Cowboys Live Forever, Outlaws Never Die in 2022. Along with contributing to Beyoncé's Cowboy Carter album, he topped the Hot Country Songs chart with the Grammy-nominated "A Bar Song (Tipsy)" off his breakout third album, 2024's Where I've Been, Isn't Where I'm Going. An expanded edition appeared a year later, yielding the hit "Amen" with Jelly Roll. Shaboozey's cinematic 2026 album, The Outlaw Cherie Lee & Other Western Tales, was presented as a classic Western concept album boasting high-profile guests from Jamie Foxx to Orville Peck. Born Collins Chibueze to Nigerian parents in northern Virginia, he was sent to Nigeria in junior high for boarding school. While there, he developed a sense of rhythm and delved into his cultural heritage. Back in the U.S., he began making music inspired by the likes of Led Zeppelin, Fela Kuti, the Clipse, Roger Waters, and even Backstreet Boys. One of those tracks, "Jeff Gordon," blended ominous trap with haunting piano, highlighting his desire to create a distinctive hybrid sound. Later, songs such as "Starfoxx" and "Robert Plant" caught the attention of Republic Records, and Chibueze signed with the label in 2017. The next year, he issued the singles "Break the Band (How Could She?)" and "Winning Streak," which combined a bluesy guitar solo, hazy production, and his soulful blend of R&B singing and poetic rapping. The latter song appeared on his official debut LP, Lady Wrangler, which was released that October. Shaboozey's sophomore album, Cowboys Live Forever, Outlaws Never Die, arrived in October 2022 and found him further blurring the genre lines between hip-hip and country. The record featured the single "Tall Boy" and included guest appearances by Powers Pleasant and RMR. In January 2024, Shaboozey released his moody song "Anabelle" as the first single off his third full-length, Where I've Been, Isn't Where I'm Going. Around the same time, he also collaborated on two tracks on singer Beyoncé's Cowboy Carter album. A second single off his album, "A Bar Song (Tipsy)," arrived in April and quickly followed Beyoncé's "Texas Hold 'Em" to the top of Billboard's Hot Country Charts, marking the first time two Black artists consecutively reached number one on the chart. The album itself was a breakout success for Shaboozey, reaching number five on the pop charts and just missing out on the top position of the country chart. In late 2024, around the time he released his next single, "Good News," the singer was nominated for five Grammy Awards. In 2025 he guested on BigXThaPlug's hit "Home" and teamed up with Stephen Wilson Jr. on "Took a Walk" from the film The Long Walk. He also expanded his previous album, releasing Where I've Been, Isn't Where I'm Going: The Complete Edition in April; it featured a number of additional tracks including the Jelly Roll collaboration "Amen." In September he joined Kevin Powers on the joint single "Move On," then kicked off his next album cycle with 2026's "Born to Die." Along with follow-up singles "Cowgirl" and the Leon Bridges-assisted "Burn it Down," "Born to Die" introduced Cherie Lee, the protagonist of Shaboozey's ambitious concept album The Outlaw Cherie Lee & Other Western Tales. Released in July 2026, the album follows Lee's character through a classic Western saga of tragedy, revenge, and romance. Among its star-studded guests are Jamie Foxx, Kehlani, Orville Peck, and actor Sam Elliott. - Biography by Neil Z. Yeung

California quintet Ceremony are a storied punk band who moved from grindcore beginnings to far more restrained and shadowy goth rock styles. They started out in the mid-2000s with a brutal sound that owed as much to old-school punk as it did to the unpredictable outbursts of grindcore. As they moved through their power violence beginnings, the group's sound morphed into considerably more melodic and gothic territory. The frothing punk energy that defined their 2006 debut, Violence, Violence, was all but unrecognizable from their Factory Records-indebted fifth album The L-Shaped Man, which arrived nine years later, and the more electronic touches of 2019's In the Spirit World Now. In 2026, their seventh full-length, Tell Me Your Dream, arrived. Ceremony formed in Rohnert Park, a town just outside of the Bay Area, in 2005. Made up of guitarists Ryan Mattos and Anthony Anzaldo, bassist Justin Davis, singer Ross Farrar, and drummer Jake Casarotti, they were briefly called Violent World before settling on Ceremony. The band released a seven-song 7" entitled Ruined in 2005 and quickly returned the next year with their full-length debut, Violence, Violence, a 13-song, 13-minute set that found the group writhing in unfiltered aggression. The quintet followed with a pair of releases, 2008's Still, Nothing Moves You and 2010's Rohnert Park, released on Bridge 9 Records. In 2011, Mattos left the band and was replaced by new guitarist Andy Nelson. At this point, Ceremony began tempering their raw, aggressive approach with post-punk influences like Wire and the Fall. After a surprising move to indie giant Matador, the band debuted their new sound in 2012 with the release of their fourth album, Zoo. By the time of 2015's The L-Shaped Man, traces of their hardcore roots were all but gone in favor of a more melodic, brooding sound that recalled groups like Joy Division and Bauhaus. In addition to The L-Shaped Man, Ceremony also shared their demo recordings made as part of the album's process. Their next record didn't appear until 2019, when In the Spirit World Now arrived on new label Relapse Records. The ambitious affair expanded their post-punk-leaning sound with electronic touches and guest vocal contributions from Chelsea Wolfe and Nothing's Domenic Palermo. The following year, a companion piece to the album was released in the form of the remix collection In the Spirit World Now (Synthetic Remixes). The set reworked multiple songs from its predecessor, replacing the guitars and live drums with even more electronic elements. A live album, Live at the Hollywood Paladium, was released in 2026, shortly before the band's seventh studio long-player, Tell Me Your Dream. The album continued exploring a shifting post-punk sound, with some songs including electric piano and a sense of groove. - Biography by Gregory Heaney

Yeung

“The story of my life has been telling myself I can’t do it, but then still doing it, and ‘it’ working out way better than I thought,” says singer-songwriter Grace Enger. The 23-year-old has built a career on that paradox, and on songs that make others feel less lost in their own contradictions. Blending pop, folk, soul, and rock, she crafts songs that approach what she calls “stereotypically shameful emotions” — resentment, insecurity, the taboo of a forbidden crush — with the no-filter intimacy and levity of a heart-to-heart between besties. “I feel like I’m writing songs that I needed to hear when I was younger,” she says, “and maybe that I still need to hear now.” Enger’s Your Favorite Record EP is full of songs you might need to hear, too. Early single “Give A Little” is a bright, piano-driven bop with forceful guitar strums and horn flourishes. It’s also the kiss-off you wish you’d given an emotionally deadbeat ex, while the wistful “Running Back To You” explains why you can’t stop texting that dud back. Later, the floating “Track 7” trades tough love for self-acceptance: “Well maybe I’m a deep cut / But aren’t those the best ones? / Ones that stick with you forever ever?” By the end, “Falling For You Anyways” sees her opening up again to new experiences. “This project represents a metamorphosis,” Enger says, “my journey of growing up and realizing I don’t have to stick around in situations that don’t serve me.” It’s an arc that mirrors its creative process. Written in the months after her first headline tour in 2025 (she was back in the studio that Monday), the EP captures a “liminal” headspace, caught between the afterglow of achieving a dream and the anxiety of what comes next. Her support system gone, Enger faced a choice: wait for someone else to make things happen, or do it herself. She chose the latter, stepping into production work she’d always left to others and making demos of new songs — not voice memos, but expansive arrangements with harmonies and strings. “I was telling myself I couldn’t do things alone. You give yourself all the reasons why you shouldn’t: ‘girls don't produce,’ ‘you should leave it to a guy,’ ‘you need a creative director,’” she says. “But by the end of it, I took the reins on my own project and therefore my own life.” Enger also wanted Your Favorite Record to feel like the soundtrack of her childhood, listening to John Mayer, Sara Bareilles, Norah Jones, Stevie Wonder — everything her parents would put on in the morning car ride to school in Hoboken, New Jersey. She fell in love with songwriting at age 10 thanks to Taylor Swift’s Red. She was soon penning her own tunes, eventually attending Berklee College of Music’s teen summer program, where she was selected from a thousand applicants to play the institute’s esteemed annual student singer-songwriter showcase. Enger began making trips to Brooklyn to collaborate with friends at NYU’s Clive Davis Institute. Two years later, she enrolled. Pandemic-era online courses freed up time, so she began writing with classmates Sadie Jean and David Alexander, posting everything they made to TikTok. In 2021, a clip of her “19 and Lonely,” about never having been in a relationship and hating it, went viral. Months later, a song she co-wrote, Jean’s RIAA Gold-certified “WYD Now?”, exploded. Riding that momentum, Enger hit the road, opening for Alexander 23’s tour shortly before releasing her debut single in 2022. “I had only ever played three shows in my life,” she says, “but it was like, ‘Just grab the parachute and jump.’ I walked onstage; me and a guitar in front of 2,000 people in Salt Lake City. You learn on the fly.” The following year, while touring with Maisie Peters, she released her first EP, Well Here We Are, a collection of acoustic ballads about the growing pains of young adulthood, from the hometown heartbreak of “The Neighborhood” to feeling uncertain about the future in “20.” Her 2024 follow-up, The Alchemist EP, dug into a deeper side of her songwriting. Written during a bout of depression and anxiety, and influenced by the darker alt-rock textures of Fiona Apple and Radiohead, songs like “Habits Die Hard” and “A Year From Now” showed a broken heart in the process of spinning its pain into beauty. Enger sees Your Favorite Record as a “part two”: older, wiser, and more hopeful. “The girl who wrote The Alchemist thought she was healed and moved on, but hadn’t actually taken action,” she admits. “I was just self-soothing and telling myself that, whereas this version of me is a bit braver.” The sound reflects that evolution with a theatricality drawn from the musicals she grew up on, and with bigger instrumentation — live horns and piano layered with key changes and “weird chords.” Which brings her back to where she started: doing the thing she told herself she couldn’t do, and finding out it worked out better than she thought. “I hope people can see how passionate I am about it,” she says, “because I really eat, breathe, sleep, and shit this stuff.”

Centered around the quivering voice and tormented but intelligently poetic songwriting of Conor Oberst, Omaha, Nebraska band Bright Eyes is synonymous with sad indie music. Oberst was just a teenager when he started using the Bright Eyes moniker, and was often backed by a rotating lineup of musicians before the band gelled into an official trio of Oberst and multi-instrumentalists Mike Mogis and Nate Walcott. Bright Eyes' albums throughout the 2000s (all issued on Oberst's indie imprint Saddle Creek) were some of their best-loved and best-performing, with releases like 2005's Digital Ash in a Digital Urn turning the tides of indie culture as well as cracking the Billboard charts. In 2020, after a nine-year hiatus, Bright Eyes signed with Dead Oceans for the release of their ninth studio album, Down in the Weeds, Where the World Once Was, and returned four years later with Five Dice, All Threes. In 2025, the group kept the momentum going with the release of their eight-song EP Kids Table. The roots of Bright Eyes reach back to 1994, when at just 14 years old, Oberst was attracting regional attention as the singer and guitarist for Omaha band Commander Venus. A prolific songwriter, he soon amassed a number of songs that didn't gel with the rest of Commander Venus' catalog, 20 of which were compiled and released in 1998 as A Collection of Songs Written and Recorded 1995-1997, a solo record that doubled as Oberst's first release under the Bright Eyes moniker. Letting Off the Happiness followed several months later, featuring contributions from members of Neutral Milk Hotel, Of Montreal, and Tilly and the Wall. The album also marked the first collaboration between Oberst and producer/instrumentalist Mike Mogis, who would play an integral role in Bright Eyes' success going forward. As Conor Oberst graduated from teenaged life to adulthood, his productivity increased. Bright Eyes' third release, Every Day and Every Night, appeared in 1999, followed by Fevers and Mirrors in 2000 and Oh Holy Fools in 2001. The Bright Eyes sound had expanded by this point, with Oberst finding room for flute, piano, and accordion in the band's music. The frontman also found room to pursue alternate projects, and he dedicated some time to Desaparecidos before returning to the studio with Mike Mogis in 2002. Lifted or the Story Is in the Soil, Keep Your Ear to the Ground was released that summer and proved to be Bright Eyes' breakthrough album, with Rolling Stone deeming it one of the year's best. Bright Eyes released several EPs in 2004 -- including Home, Vol. 4, a collaboration with Spoon's Britt Daniel -- and rang in the following year with a pair of albums released on the same day: I'm Wide Awake, It's Morning (whose accompanying tour produced the Motion Sickness: Live Recordings disc) and the electronic-slanted Digital Ash in a Digital Urn, both of which cracked the Top 20 in America. Hailed by some critics as the next Dylan, Oberst supported the releases with a round of festival appearances and international shows before returning to the studio once more. Recorded in L.A., Chicago, New York, Omaha, and Portland, the follow-up effort Cassadaga was released in April 2007, preceded by the Four Winds EP earlier that spring. Both releases featured full instrumentation -- including pedal steel, Dobro, xylophone, and orchestral swells -- making them some of Bright Eyes' most developed works up to that point. Cassadaga debuted at number four in America and number 13 in the U.K., marking Bright Eyes' highest peak on either chart. Even so, Oberst followed such success by decamping to rural Mexico to work on his first solo effort in years. Recorded in a makeshift studio with a cast of musicians dubbed the Mystic Valley Band, Conor Oberst arrived in 2008. The project soon evolved from a solo effort into a full-band affair, and the Mystic Valley Band returned in 2009 with Outer South, an album that included songs written and sung by several of Oberst's bandmates. Bright Eyes returned in 2011 with The People's Key, which was recorded in Omaha and produced by Mogis and Andy LeMaster. In 2013, A Christmas Album, which had originally been quietly issued in 2002 as a Saddle Creek online-store exclusive, was finally scheduled for its first full commercial release. This unique holiday album featured a selection of Christmas standards performed in Bright Eyes' trademark bittersweet style, with help from a plethora of other Saddle Creek artists including members of Cursive, Desaparecidos, Neva Dinova, and Azure Ray. In October 2016, Bright Eyes received the box set treatment with the aptly named Studio Albums 2000-2011, which featured remastered versions of all of the group's LPs up to 2011's The People's Key. This was leading slowly to the band's emergence from their dormant state. In January 2020, Bright Eyes announced they had signed to indie imprint Dead Oceans for the release of their ninth album, Down in the Weeds, Where the World Once Was, and began sharing new songs in advance of the record's release. The album arrived in August of the same year. That October, the band released new song "Miracle of Life" as a benefit for Planned Parenthood. The track was a collaboration with Phoebe Bridgers, with whom Oberst had been working closely both in cameos on her tracks and with their band Better Oblivion Community Center. In 2021, Bright Eyes released a cover of Vic Chestnutt's "Flirted with You All My Life." The following year, the group announced they would be reissuing their first nine studio albums with new label Dead Oceans. Along with each reissue, the band released an accompanying EP with re-recorded versions of songs from the corresponding album and various unreleased cover songs. The Companion Series began with three EPs released in May 2022, one for each of the first three Bright Eyes albums; A Collection of Songs Written and Recorded 1995-1997, Letting Off the Happiness, and Fevers and Mirrors. Several tracks from these EPs were shared in advance of their release, including new versions of early Bright Eyes tracks "Contrast and Compare" with guest vocals from Waxahatchee's Katie Crutchfield, "Haligh, Haligh, A Lie, Haligh" with Bridgers, and a cover of Elliott Smith's "St. Ides Heaven." In 2024, Bright Eyes' tenth studio album, Five Dice, All Threes arrived, again on the Dead Oceans label. The record was full of notable collaborators including Cat Power's Chan Marshall and members of the National and the So So Glos. In September of 2025, Bright Eyes issued a new EP, the eight-song collection Kids Table. The EP included a song featuring vocals from Hurray for the Riff Raff’s Alynda Segarra, who had sung with Oberst on-stage when Bright Eyes and Hurray for the Riff Raff toured together earlier that year. - Biography by Andrew Leahey

Nigerian-born British singer/songwriter Shaé Universe weds dreamy R&B melodies with subtle gospel flavors and elements of hip-hop to create a dynamic and engaging hybrid. Active since the mid-2010s, she notched collaborations with artists like Kojo Funds and Ms. Banks before breaking out with the R&B-drill single "You Lose" in 2020. Shaé continued to experiment on her 2022 EP Unorthodox and the soulful 2023 highlights "LOML" and "Wish You Wouldn't" with Kali Claire. Born in Nigeria, Shaé immigrated with her family to the U.K. when she was four. Growing up in Watford, England, she sang with her mother in church choirs and later became enamored of American R&B singers like Erykah Badu, Jazmine Sullivan, and Brandy. While at university, she began posting clips online of her covering well-known songs and was surprised when major acts like Stormzy and Chance the Rapper endorsed her. After graduation, Shaé began releasing her own singles independently. 2017's "Big Mistake" with Ms. Banks helped establish her diverse amalgam of R&B, neo-soul, and rap, which she further developed on tracks like 2018's "No Stallin'" and 2019's "Misunderstood." The unique R&B flow mixed with taut drill beats on 2020's "You Love" became something of a breakout for Shaé, and she included it on her first project, Unorthodox. The 2022 EP also featured guests like Kojey Radical and Tay Iwar. She followed this with more experimentation, collaborating with Kadeem Tyrell and Geovarn on "Let Me Know (The Cypher)" and Ayotemi on "Give Me a Break." Among her 2023 singles were "Passenger Princess" and the romantic "LOML." - Biography by Timothy Monger

Rav is the Soviet-born founder of EXOCIETY. Currently stationed in the United States, Rav makes rap music full time. Rav found interest in rap music at a young age, beginning by making loops and recording on cassette. Much of his internet footprint began on Newgrounds, dating back as early as 2006 where he would upload his music. After a mutual rivalry mainly founded by their friend groups, Rav ended up talking with and becoming friends with Kill Bill: The Rapper, and they would begin making music together. In 2012 Rav would become one of the founding members of the net label Black Chalk, where he would debut the record label with Hyperkinesis EP, later that year also releasing the first B-Sides and Rarities. By early 2013, Black Chalk died due to shared dissatisfaction with how the label was being run. With continued interest in the idea of a group, Rav decided to form Exordium, the former name for Exociety, where he would try and recruit other like-minded rappers to work with. In 2013 he would release a second B-Sides and Rarities, as well as be featured on the first ever EXO release, Time Space Capsule by Rekcahdam, one of Rav's online friends who he now describes as being "like a brother". In 2014 he was featured notably in Bill's RAMONA project, spending the summer living with Bill and recording the album. The next year would be featured on Bill's second project RESIN, and in December release BENEATH THE TOXIC JUNGLE, which to this day is considered one of his defining projects. Following this he would continued to be featured on numerous other projects, continuing to release B Sides volumes 3, 4, 5, 5.5, and 6 up through 2017, being featured on Bill's singles collection DROP SEASON the same year. In 2018 Rav and Bill would appear for the first time as guests on the SuperMegaCast, and after seeing how things were run, felt inspired and invigorated to create the WeDon'tSuck Podcast, which would feature Don, the main channel artist of SuperMega. Bill and Rav in early 2019 would release their first fully co-operative album, NEW MOON, featuring slightly updated versions of previous singles, along with fully new tracks. During this time their channel artist Don would draw the cover art for VESTIGES, Rav's compilation tape of the best of the B-Sides, signaling his decision to end the series, largely in conjunction with him no longer wanting to release music he wasn't proud of, instead wanting to focus his efforts on a debut album, one in the following year would be referenced on the podcast and other social media. In October 2019 Bill and Rav would once again collaborate on Solar Flare, an album entirely recorded while in LA, shortly after their live show EXOMANIA. Later on, the WeDon'tSuck channel would be rebranded as ChibiChubby, featuring Let's Plays and new channel artist Shark-E. In 2020, similarly to Solar Flare, Rav, Bill, and Scuare, would collaborate on the album SKIN after their EXOASIS show, feeling like they wouldn't easily have a chance to all record together again. During that year Rav would release We Need To Talk, a single he considered may end up on his debut album, and who's original art was drawn by ChibiChubby channel artist Shark-E. Rav was also featured on the track Be, in Potsu's Reaching For a Star. Rav was then featured again on a single by Airospace, Sunshine Etrnl_We're Better As Friends which was later compiled into Airo's 戦場ヶ原ひたぎ [vol. IV]. In late November of that year Rav would release his debut album, I'M ON TO ME, discussing a myriad of deeply personal feelings and experiences that happened in the past year, being a release that replaced the album he was originally intending to make that year. Shortly after the release of I'M ON TO ME, due to a controversy surrounding Bill, ChibiChubby would take a hiatus, during this time Rav would focus more strongly on a personal YouTube channel and Twitch streaming. The channel would feature music, launching with the release of Time-Tested, as well as Twitch highlights, and the short lived podcast Ravioli Ravioli. Many unreleased tracks were played on stream when Rav would meet subscriber goals, one track in particular, dubbed "my time", has a notably good reception, with Rav commenting he would consider releasing it, although the track never saw the light of day again during this time. In 2021 Rav would be featured on Hillside during Scuare's new album, Phenomenal. During 2021 WeDon'tSuck would return for a final episode, during this Bill and Rav expressed difficulty in running the channel, both in the way it restricted their time to work on their real passion of music, along with the strong negative associations that came from being "YouTubers" as well as rappers, the channel was made for fun, and once it became an obligation instead, they both decided it was time to move on, a feeling that grew during their hiatus, when they had an influx of free time to work on music, and a chance to consider if they were interested in working on the channel anymore. Due to this, all videos on the channel outside of music were unlisted, including those on Rav's personal channel, and the podcast was removed from streaming services. The channel was rebranded as the official exociety YouTube channel, which it continues to serve as to this day. During 2021 Rav would take a break from social media, during this time Potsu would make a tweet revealing that a project was in the works between him and Rav. In August of 2021, Nate Rill would upload B-Sides Volume 9 onto YouTube, this was quickly discovered by fans, and heavily featured previously shown demos and songs played as subscriber rewards on Twitch. After questioning how the clean tracks were collected, Rav revealed he was the uploader using a burner account, choosing to release another B-Sides as a reward to passionate fans during a slower release year for him. The next month he would release his first beat tape SCHOOL OF ERROR which compiled previously unreleased beats, along with those he produced for I'M ON TO ME, and SKIN. During September of 2021, Rav, Bill, Airo, and Scuare, would all meet up in Washington, being the first time all of them would meet in person at once. The four of them would live in a cabin in the woods for several weeks, releasing only occasional photos and videos of their time together. After returning home, Rav would release the single previously played on Twitch, and compiled in B-Sides 9, my time (an optimistic rebuttal) after heavy fan demand since it's first play, and on November 18th, released the single EXP Share, and announced the Out Of The Woods Tour, EXO's first ever tour which they would embark upon the following year. The same month Bill would announce and release his new album Snowglobe Theory, with Rav being featured on the track DoNotDisturb. A remix of EXP Share was released soon thereafter, and Rav would release the single Ass Backwards on December 15th, featuring Mike Eagle, and being produced by Ant of Atmosphere, something Rav noted was a dream come true after being a fan of Atmosphere for his entire career. During their 2021 Recap, EXO announced their first ever EXO album, releasing The Lodge, and Victory Lap (Mirror Mode) as singles before the official release of deception falls on March 10th, 2022. Shortly after the album premiere, they would release INTO THE WOODS, a documentary about making the album. The four EXO members featured on the album would later go on the Out Of The Woods Tour, performing many of the album's new tracks along with their previous discography. The tour ran successfully for several months, before all members returned to their homes to continue making music. During the interim afterwards, Rav's twitter account would be hacked, used as a tool for self-promotion. He would later post a photo of himself with Mitch, seemingly being in the United States to watch the Creator Clash featuring many online content creators, including several friends, as indicated by him posting a photo of himself with Michael Reeves after the match. This was possibly in reference to EXO fans joking that the two look similar, although Rav has previously conveyed discontent with said jokes, feeling it strips them both of their individuality. Dr. Marmal8 would also announce that they were working on a song with Rav, which has yet to be released. Shortly after referencing going through life changes on twitter, Rav would tweet stating he was "based in LA now", having left his previous home of London, something he later revealed to be due him and his partner divorcing, choosing to spend time with friends instead of isolating. During this period Rav would live in the SuperMegaPlex, where friends Matt Watson and Ryan Magee record videos for their channel. Over the next few months a number of events would occur during Rav's life, he would come out as Non-Binary, go on a long cross-country trip with artist Lex Updog for several months, and finish his album with Potsu. During this trip however both travelers were robbed, losing many personal and professional items, including the album Rav had finished, his music equipment, Lex's clothes, and more. These items were deemed unrecoverable and they later did a 24 hour Twitch stream designed to raise money to recoup their losses. Rav eventually announced he had settled in Minneapolis to finish his album, after completing his album with potsu, he once again moved back to Los Angeles to fully settle, before again changing his mind and leaving, instead making a temporary move with Bill, releasing his next full length album LEAP. The album was formerly announced with the release of the single My Bag, during said release Rav also revealed the existence of another secret mixtape, causing fans to discover the ninth B-Sides. LEAP was a project defined by Rav's ever changing experiences. It included unfinished songs who's final versions had been stolen, new tracks created after the robbery, and tries to catalog Rav's ever changing psyche, and hope to take a "leap" of faith and move towards a better future. Rav would also announce the Short King Tour, his first headlining tour across the United States.

Bayonne is the stage name of Roger Sellers, an American electronic musician and composer based in Austin, Texas, renowned for his intricate, loop-layered live performances and densely textured recordings that blend indie electronic, symphonic pop, and experimental elements. Born in Spring, Texas, Sellers began exploring music as a young child, inspired by Eric Clapton's MTV Unplugged performance and Phil Collins, which led him to receive his first drum kit at age six.1 Sellers' musical journey started with formal training but evolved largely through self-teaching on multiple instruments, resulting in early releases under his own name, including the self-titled debut album in 2010, Moments in 2011, and 8 Songs in 2012, which leaned toward electro-acoustic avant-folk By the mid-2010s, he adopted the Bayonne moniker for his more electronics-focused work, building a dedicated following in Austin through solo shows where he creates complex soundscapes using drums, sequencers, synths, and looping effects in real time. Bayonne's debut album under the project, Primitives—originally self-released in 2014 and reissued by Mom + Pop Music in 2016—showcased ambient and percussive tracks exploring polyrhythms and electronic pop.1 His follow-up, the self-produced Drastic Measures (2019, also on Mom + Pop), drew inspiration from 1960s symphonic pop and achieved commercial success, peaking in the Top Ten of Billboard's Dance/Electronic Albums chart. In 2023, Bayonne released Temporary Time on Nettwerk Music Group, continuing his signature style of dance rhythms interwoven with atmospheric depth, alongside collaborations such as a feature on David Knudson's "Medalle" and a remix of Sondre Lerche's "Guaranteed That I'd Be Loved." In 2024, he released the single "Dark Day."

Bristol-based indie electronic trio Elder Island produce a kind of lush, soulful ambient electro-pop, wrapped up in a retro-futurist aesthetic reminiscent of classic British groups like Broadcast. Vocalist/cellist Katy Sargent, bassist/programmer Luke Thornton, and guitarist/keyboardist David Harvard met at Bristol University and bonded over a shared love of avant-garde music. They originally formed their trio under the name Traví, as an experimental audiovisual project. Starting out in a folk idiom, they eventually progressed to a house music sound, releasing their eponymous debut EP in 2014, which picked up a couple of plays on the influential radio station BBC 6 Music. Refusing to rush the follow-up, they took their time, finally releasing their second EP, Seeds in Sand, in early 2017. By the time of their debut album, 2019's The Omnitone Collection, Elder Island's music had evolved into a somewhat slower, more soulful R&B/disco-influenced style. Performing everything live, their composition process involved recording hours-long jams that they would then cut up into loops and edit into tracks, sometimes taking literally years to finish a single piece. Sargent's sultry, smoky voice recalls Portishead's Beth Gibbons, while Thornton's ever-growing collection of exotic percussive instruments contributes to the evolution of the group's sound.

Icelandic pop star Daði Freyr rose to international fame with the infectious 2020 hit "Think About Things," a song intended to represent his home country in that year's Eurovision Song Contest. Despite the contest's cancellation due to the global pandemic, Freyr's playful synth pop anthem became a hit in several countries and was followed in 2021 by the similarly buoyant "10 Years," which successfully competed in that year's Eurovision, coming in fourth place. A singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist, Freyr is known for his quirky stage show, dance moves, and commitment to melodic pop songcraft. Born in Reykjavik and raised partly in Denmark, Freyr's family later settled in Iceland's Southern Region where he studied music management in college. His first major project was an electronic pop band called ReTroBot, which released one album and won the 2012 Músíktilraunir song contest in Reykjavik. After relocating to Berlin where he studied music production, Freyr began his solo career with the self-released Næsta Skref EP and a 2017 entry into Söngvakeppni, the annual contest that decides which Icelandic act will represent the country in the Eurovision Song Contest. While his song "Is This Love?" didn't win, it established his signature sound and visual aesthetic. A mix of growling synth hooks and tight dance beats, Freyr's crafty pop song was represented on-stage by his sister, backing vocalist Sigrún Birna Pétursdóttir, his wife, dancer Árný Fjóla Ásmundsdóttir, and a group of friends and musicians all wearing memorable teal sweaters bearing pixelated portraits of themselves. The group became known as Daði & Gagnamagnið, an Icelandic word that translates to "data plan." After releasing the 2019 full-length & Co., Freyr got back to work on his quest for Eurovision glory. Released in January 2020, the undeniably catchy "Think About Things" handily won the Söngvakeppni and was set to represent Iceland in that year's Eurovision contest. The song's popularity led many to believe it was one of the frontrunners, but when the global pandemic led to Eurovision's cancellation, "Think About Things" took on new life as a viral hit around the world and did win several international song competitions in places like Austria, Sweden, Norway, and Australia. Riding a wave of momentum, Daði & Gagnamagnið returned in 2021 with "10 Years," a similarly hooky dance ode to Freyr's wife which went on to take fourth place at that year's Eurovision contest. Another global hit that topped the Icelandic pop chart, the song anchored his Welcome EP. Freyr returned in 2022 with the filous-assisted single "Sabada" and announced a world tour. - Biography by Timothy Monger

Kelela synthesizes contemporary R&B and progressive electronic music with an aptitude for prompting club play as much as bedroom listening. The singer/songwriter and producer became active in the early 2010s with numerous supporting roles leading to Cut 4 Me (2013), her mixtape debut for the Fade to Mind label. Increased exposure and a growing network of collaborators naturally led to a deal with the Warp label, an affiliation that started with the conceptual Hallucinogen EP (2015) and continued with Take Me Apart (2017), Kelela's widely acclaimed, charting debut album. She resurfaced after a four-year hiatus with the ballad "Washed Away." The atmospheric and wholehearted track served as the first precursor to Raven (2023), which Kelela described as "an affirmation of Black femme perspective in the midst of systemic erasure and the sound of our vulnerability turned to power." Club-focused companion RAVE:N, The Remixes followed in 2024, and the unplugged performance In the Blue Light was released in 2025. With 2026's New Avatar, Kelela revisited rock influences from her early songwriting days in the Washington, D.C. indie scene. Born in Washington, D.C., Kelela Mizanekristos was raised in suburban Maryland and didn't have aspirations to be a singer until she started studying jazz. Subsequent obsessions with Amel Larrieux and Little Dragon helped push her toward finding her own style -- one she found after she moved to Los Angeles in 2010. She connected with Teengirl Fantasy and contributed to the duo's Tracer album on the song "EFX." This led to meeting the Fade to Mind label's Prince William, who exposed her to his associates' lean yet sharp and deep productions. Knocked out by what she heard, she soon debuted on Kingdom's August 2013 single "Bank Head." A couple months later, guided by the intent to put together a mixtape that sounded like a remix collection, she released the free download Cut 4 Me with contributions from Kingdom and peers Bok Bok, Girl Unit, Jam City, and Nguzunguzu. One of the year's more striking debuts, it wasn't available on any physical formats until April 2015, when Night Slugs released a two-CD edition that added actual remixes. Between the digital and physical releases of Cut 4 Me, Kelela was featured on an array of tracks, including Bok Bok's "Melba's Call," a pair of highlights off Kindness' Otherness, and Future Brown's "Danger Zone," after which she joined the latter group on the Warp roster. Her first work for the revered U.K. label was the six-track Hallucinogen EP. Conceptually focused on the beginning, middle, and end of a relationship in reverse order, the October 2015 release involved input from some of Kelela's previous partners, as well as the likes of Arca, Obey City, and Ariel Rechtshaid. Across the following year and into early 2017, Kelela extended her reach by appearing on Clams Casino's 32 Levels, Danny Brown's Atrocity Exhibition, Solange's A Seat at the Table, and Gorillaz's Human. Preceded by the Jam City collaborations "LMK" and "Frontline," Kelela's first proper album, Take Me Apart, was released by Warp in October 2017. The album entered the Billboard 200 and reached number 18 on the R&B/hip-hop chart, and peaked at number three on the U.K. R&B chart. Take Me A_Part, The Remixes, featuring newly-recorded vocals and contributions from the likes of Kaytranada, CupcakKe, and go-go legends Rare Essence, followed in 2018. Kelela then took an extended break from music, and in September 2022 returned with the single "Washed Away," a collaboration with producer Yo van Lenz. A handful of additional previews led to the arrival of Raven, Kelela's second proper album, in February 2023. RAVE:N, The Remixes, containing revisions featuring Bbymutha, Yaeji, Loraine James, Shygirl, and others, was digitally released in February 2024, then appeared on vinyl near the end of the year. In the Blue Light, containing primarily acoustic performances drawn from two concerts at the legendary Blue Note Jazz Club, was issued in 2025. For her third studio album, Kelela incorporated elements of shoegaze, grunge, R&B, and dance music, drawing from every form of music she's previously explored, back to her early days of singing in rock bands. Co-produced by Oscar Scheller, New Avatar (2026) included guest appearances by PinkPantheress, Fousheé, and A.K. Paul. - Biography by Andy Kellman

Swedish indie pop artist Jens Lekman combines daring use of samples and arrangements with songwriting that's tender, witty, and vulnerable. He went from circulating homespun demos to international critical acclaim with his albums on the Secretly Canadian label throughout the mid-2000s. In addition to his more traditional records, Lekman explored a variety of conceptual releases, including his 2015 Postcards series, which found him writing and releasing a new song each week for a year, and 2019's Correspondence, a musical back-and-forth between Lekman and longtime collaborator Annika Norlin. In 2022, Lekman continued a habit of revisiting older material by releasing re-recorded, re-titled, and expanded revisions of two early albums, removing his critically adored 2007 release Night Falls Over Kortedala from streaming services and other internet platforms and replacing it with The Linden Trees Are Still in Blossom. He also reissued the long-gone digitally erased 2005 compilation Oh You're So Silent Jens as The Cherry Trees Are Still in Blossom. At the same time, he was working as a wedding singer, which provided the grist for his 2025 release Songs for Other People's Weddings Born February 6, 1981, in Gothenburg, Lekman exhibited little interest in music as a child, but at 14 he was recruited to play bass in a friend's cover band. Within weeks he was writing his own original material, quickly accumulating hundreds of songs. Assuming the alias Rocky Dennis (borrowed from the disfigured protagonist of the 1985 American film Mask), Lekman recorded and released a series of limited-edition CD-Rs beginning with 2001's The Budgie-Album. A year later, he compiled a collection of highlights and mailed the sole copy to U.S. indie label Secretly Canadian, but remained largely unknown until the 2003 EP Maple Leaves became something of a cause célèbre on Internet file-sharing services. The Swedish indie Service Records reissued Maple Leaves later that same year, and after abandoning his pseudonym once and for all with 2004's Rocky Dennis in Heaven EP, Lekman issued his acclaimed full-length debut, When I Said I Wanted to Be Your Dog, distributed in the U.S. via Secretly Canadian. The LP generated the Swedish Top Ten hit "You Are the Light," and in 2005 he traveled the globe, issuing several tour-only EPs and collecting his previous singles, B-sides, and compilation tracks as Oh You're So Silent Jens. Following this flurry of activity, Lekman announced on his website plans for an extended hiatus from performing, scrapping a planned sophomore LP and reportedly accepting a position at a local bingo parlor; he nevertheless quit after just two days on the job and fully rededicated himself to his musical pursuits. This dedication paid off with the release of 2007's stunning album Night Falls Over Kortedala. After touring for a year, moving to Melbourne, Australia, for a couple years (where he worked on music and DJ'd a bit), then returning to Sweden, Lekman issued the EP An Argument with Myself in the fall of 2011. The record comprised five songs recorded for his next album but deemed not quite in line with the theme of failed romance. That album, I Know What Love Isn't, was recorded between 2009 and 2012 in Sweden and Brooklyn, and came out on Secretly Canadian in August 2012. During the tour that followed, Lekman realized that many of his fans didn't quite follow him to the relatively dark and introspective places that the album went. This sent him into a bit of an artistic tailspin, leading to a 2014 album being made but eventually shelved after being turned down by his label. Still struggling to find a way to get back to a place of artistic stability, Lekman issued a mixtape in 2014 titled WWJD, which featured a few new songs. He took more drastic measures in 2015 when he launched Postcards, a project that called for him to write, record, and release a song every week for a year. At the same time, he launched Ghostwriting, which had Lekman writing songs from stories given to him by fans. He did it in Gothenburg and Cincinnati, meeting with the fans, interviewing them, and then quickly recording the songs. Feeling rejuvenated, Lekman next teamed with producer Ewan Pearson, whom he met while recording with Tracey Thorn, and began work on a new album. The shiny, happy, disco-inspired Life Will See You Now was released in early 2017. Throughout 2018, Lekman and Swedish singer/songwriter Annika Norlin traded songs each month, formatting their compositions like letters to one another. They released this material as it came together on a website dedicated to the project, and in 2019 the 12 songs were properly mastered and issued as the collaborative album Correspondence. In 2020, Correspondence was physically released by Secretly Canadian. In 2022, Lekman removed his 2007 album Night Falls Over Kortedala from the internet and a few weeks later replaced it with The Linden Trees Are Still in Blossom, a collection of completely re-recorded and re-worked songs from the album along with new material. He applied the same approach to his long out of print and digitally discontinued 2005 compilation Oh You're So Silent Jens with The Cherry Trees Are Still in Blossom. On the latter release, Lekman's reimagined songs were sometimes bridged with snippets of spoken audio diaries taken from cassette recordings from his personal archives. While Lekman was busy revamping his back catalog he had also started an inadvertent career as a wedding singer. People took his song "If You Ever Need a Stranger (To Sing at Your Wedding)" at its word and began reaching out to him to provide that service. The experiences along the way inspired his 2025 album Songs for Other People's Weddings. The songs revolved around a fictional story of a wedding singer's relationship and featured vocalist Matilda Sargren providing vocals for the protagonist's wife. At the same time, Lekman collaborated with author David Levithan on a novel of the same name. - Biography by Jason Ankeny

Singer, songwriter, and producer Isaiah Falls proudly represents his native Orlando with emotionally and sonically rich contemporary R&B. The independent artist released his first tracks in the late 2010s and built up a local following before he broke through with the winding slow jam "Sin on Purpose." He has steadily grown with a slew of EPs that ranges from The Private Room (2023) to Lucky You (2025), assured recordings that have seen him collaborate with the likes of Joyce Wrice, Alex Isley, and SiR. Falls' musical development was strongly encouraged by his parents, both of whom were in a band, managed Christian artists, and were briefly involved with A&R work. He started making music in his early teens with keyboards, a laptop bought by his mother, and a digital audio workstation. Within a few years, he uploaded his first tracks and chose to seriously pursue music with a plan to establish himself on a local level. "Sin on Purpose," released in 2022, greatly expanded his audience, and after the spare ballad "Pain in My Voice," he completed his first EP, The Private Room, issued in 2023. Another handful of singles -- most notably "Natural," a slinking, dancefloor-oriented track featuring key collaborator Icee Red and Tamae -- was out before the end of the year. In 2024, Falls continued to progress with the 12-track, EP-length offering Drugs n' Lullabies, led by the gentle-grooving "Florida Baby." Another round of singles included collaborations with Joyce Wrice ("Butterflies") and Sasha Keable ("Night Off"), and the first of those two duets became the main draw for LVRS PARADISE (SIDE A), issued in May 2025 with additional guest appearances from Ambré and Odeal. Within five months, Falls was back with Lucky You, a six-track EP with assists from Wrice, Alex Isley, SiR, and Chase Shakur. The breezy "Taboo" followed in early 2026. - Biography by Andy Kellman

She starred as Nova in the Disney Channel movie musical ZOMBIES 4: DAWN OF THE VAMPIRES in 2025, the same year she released personal material such as the singles "Can't Fake It" and "silent treatment." The latter song was included on her debut EP, 2026's stardust, which reached the U.K. Top 40. Born Freya Skye Jones in Buckinghamshire, England, Freya Skye began singing and acting at age five. Her first appearance on the international stage was at 13, when she competed in the 2022 Junior Eurovision Song Contest in Yerevan, Armenia. She represented the U.K. with her song "Lose My Head." Skye finished first in the global public vote and fifth in the official standings. At the time, she was a student at the Tring Park School for the Performing Arts. Around the same time, she began working as a voice actor in video games, including the English versions of Dragon Quest Treasures (2022) and Final Fantasy XVI (2023). In 2024, after signing with Hollywood Records, she released several effervescent pop songs, including "Who Says" and the bouncy seasonal outing "Winter Dream." She released more songs in early 2025 before appearing that July in the Disney Channel original movie ZOMBIES 4: DAWN OF THE VAMPIRES, the fourth entry in the popular teen musical franchise. As Nova Bright, leader of the Daywalkers, Skye appeared on most of the songs on the movie's soundtrack, including "Snow Angels," Nova's duet with Victor (Malachi Barton). She also took part of in the month-long North American arena tour Descendants/Zombies: Worlds Collide Tour. In addition to guest spots on TV's Wizards Beyond Waverly Place, back over on Hollywood Records, Skye released the song "silent treatment" before the end of 2025. It marked her debut on the Billboard Hot 100. In early 2026, she released her first EP, stardust. With songwriters such as Julia Michaels and Em Beihold chipping in on some of the songs, it reached number 35 in the U.K. and landed in the top half of the Billboard 200. - Biography by Marcy Donelson

Impassioned and reflective rapper Token earned his stripes at a young age, writing his first songs at ten and building an audience through his YouTube page where, at only 17, his track "No Sucka MC's" went viral and earned him national recognition on blogs and in the rap community. The Massachusetts native went on to self-issue the albums Eraser Shavings and Between Somewhere, and landed a distribution deal with major-label Atlantic, continuing his artistic progression with the 2022 release Pink Is Better, his third full-length. A prolific run of singles followed, including standouts like "Rookie" and "Mayflower," setting the table for 2025's independently released I'm Not Supposed to Be Here and 2026's guest-heavy I'm Leaving Soon. Growing up north of Boston in Marblehead, Ben Goldberg began rapping under the name Token, producing tracks in a confident rapid-fire style reminiscent of Eminem. He made his breakthrough in 2015 with "No Sucka MC's" -- the official video quickly amassed views in the millions -- and expanded his audience with a performance on hip-hop DJ Sway Calloway's Sway in the Morning SiriusXM show. Token's debut album, Eraser Shavings, arrived in 2016, followed by a tour of France and an appearance at the Chorus Festival. By 2017, singles like "Doozy" and "Exception" were amassing millions of streams, and Token set out on a major tour of the U.S. Between Somewhere followed in 2018; unlike the debut, which contained no guest appearances, it featured verses from the likes of Tech N9ne, Bas, and IDK. Token scattered a handful of singles over the next couple years, and put together the Atlantic-distributed Pink Is Better, which landed in 2022. Over the next several years Token picked up his pace, issued a prolific barrage of singles like "Rookie," "Mayflower," and "Knot," all on his own label Never Too Different. This eventually led up to the 2025 release of his next full-length, I'm Not Supposed to Be Here, which again featured a guest spot from Tech N9ne as well as Terror Reid and Steven Rodriguez. One year later, he followed it with the lengthy and more collaborative I'm Leaving Soon, a 20-track set that included contributions from Jasiah, Diggy Graves, SXMPRA, KXLLSWXTCH, and others. ~ Timothy Monger

Prince Daddy & the Hyena is an American emo and pop punk band from Albany, New York, formed in 2014 by vocalist and guitarist Kory Gregory, drummer Alex Ziembiec, and bassist Zakariya Houacine after attending a Rozwell Kid concert. The band blends elements of power pop, indie rock, and post-hardcore into energetic, slacker punk soundscapes characterized by fast-paced riffs and introspective lyrics. The current lineup consists of Gregory on vocals and guitar, Cameron Handford on guitar, Daniel Gorham on drums and vocals, and Adam Dasilva on bass, following lineup changes including Houacine's departure in 2019 and Ziembiec's in 2017. A pivotal moment came in November 2018 when the band survived a near-fatal van accident during a blizzard while returning from tour, an event that influenced their thematic depth.3 Their discography includes the debut full-length album I Thought You Didn't Even Like Leaving (2016), the sophomore effort Cosmic Thrill Seekers (2019), and the self-titled third album (2022), alongside earlier EPs such as Skip Cutscenes! Blow Loud! (2014) and Adult Summers (2015). The band's music often delves into heavy subjects like mortality, aging, and mental health struggles, as seen in the self-titled album's concept exploring Gregory's personal experiences, including a month-long psychiatric hospital stay during its creation. Signed to Pure Noise Records since 2019, Prince Daddy & the Hyena has built a dedicated following through relentless touring and releases that mix humor with emotional vulnerability.

A leading light in independent R&B, Eric Roberson has built a rich catalog characterized by his radiant tenor vocals, earnest songwriting, and continual musical progression traversing contemporary soul, gospel, organic hip-hop, and deep house. Roberson entered the music industry in his teens, through a major label. Although his first act was cut short after he charted with the post-new jack swing ballad "The Moon" (1994), he bounced back the following decade, reintroducing himself with Esoteric... (2001), his self-released debut album, and "Don't Change," a club hit (also known as "Change for Me"). A little late and perhaps too underground to benefit from the attention granted to like-minded artists classified as neo-soul, Roberson proved to be as worthy of acclaim as any of his soul-rooted contemporaries, and after a few more LPs, earned Grammy nominations for two songs off his sixth full-length, Music Fan First (2009). His next proper studio albums, Mister Nice Guy (2011) and The Box (2014), charted either within or near the top half of the Billboard 200. Since then, he has issued the Phonte collaboration Tigallerro (2016), Hear from Here (2020), and Lessons (2022), among many other solo efforts and outside projects. In 1994, as a teenager, the Rahway, New Jersey native debuted on Warner Bros. with "The Moon." Although the smooth, post-new jack ballad was a minor hit, reaching number 53 on Billboard's Hot R&B Singles chart that summer, its parent album was shelved. Roberson returned to Howard University on a musical theater scholarship and earned his degree. During the latter half of the '90s, armed with an EMI publishing contract, he wrote and arranged tracks for the likes of Phajja, 112, and Gina Thompson. The following decade, Roberson went fully independent with his Blue Erro Soul label, launched with his full-length debut, Esoteric... (2001). The same year that album was issued, Roberson, as Erro, also made waves in clubs with "Don't Change" (aka "Change for Me"), a single originally released on Osunlade's Yoruba label. As his solo career was moving forward again, he was also working with Philadelphians Musiq Soulchild, Jill Scott, DJ Jazzy Jeff, and Vivian Green as well as with Detroiter Dwele, for whom he co-wrote and co-produced "Hold On," another single that happened to peak at number 53 R&B. Roberson released solo albums every couple years, adding to his catalog with The Appetizer (2005), ...Left (2007), and Music Fan First (2009). The latter included "Borrow You," Roberson's first charting R&B/hip-hop single since "The Moon," and "A Tale of Two" and "Still," songs that were nominated for Grammy Awards in the category of Best Urban/Alternative R&B Performance. The Recording Academy's acknowledgments, along with new support from a partnership with Purpose Music and distributor eOne, helped send Mister Nice Guy (2011) to number 14 on Billboard's R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart. Roberson subsequently took part in contemporary gospel leader Fred Hammond's United Tenors project and fronted Zo!'s "We Are on the Move" (both 2013), then reverted to Blue Erro releases with B-Sides, Features & Heartaches and The Box (both 2014). He then linked up with occasional collaborator Phonte for Tigallerro (2016) and put together a trilogy of empowerment-themed EPs, Earth, Wind, and Fire (all in 2017). Before the end of the decade, Roberson issued the full-length LNS (2019), short for Late Night Sessions, with songs selected by his following of online subscribers, and he became a professor at Berklee College of Music. Very early into the COVID-19 pandemic, Roberson extended Erro Live: Vol. UK, a recording of a London performance the previous year, as well as the studio album Hear from Here. Those 2020 sets were followed by Lessons (2022), the title track of which fast became one of Roberson's most successful singles.

- Biography by Andy Kellman

Singer and songwriter Madi Diaz's passionate, searching songs draw on indie rock, country and folk, synth pop, and more while always keeping emotion front and center. After the Pennsylvania native recorded her full-length debut with Berklee classmates (2007's Skin and Bone), she relocated to Los Angeles and landed on the Billboard Heatseekers Albums chart with 2012's Plastic Moon. Her fifth album, the breakup-inspired History of a Feeling, marked her Anti-/Epitaph debut in 2021. She explored similar emotional territory on 2024's Grammy-nominated Weird Faith, which featured a duet with Kacey Musgraves ("Don't Do Me Good"). Diaz stripped things back and got even more intimate on the next year's Fatal Optimist, the final entry in an unofficial heartbreak trilogy. Madi Diaz spent her formative years in rural Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, where she was home-schooled by her Peruvian mother and studied piano with her Danish father, a musician who introduced her to the likes of the Beatles and Fleetwood Mac as she grew up in the '90s. She switched to guitar in her early teens and began composing at the age of 16 after the family relocated to nearby Philadelphia. It was there that Diaz achieved minor celebrity status as one of the more precocious and engaging students in director Don Argott's hit 2005 documentary about the Paul Green School of Rock Music. While attending Berklee, Diaz spent time in the indie rock outfit Talk Radio before embarking on a solo career in 2006. With the help of producer Frank Charlton and recording engineer Martin Cooke, a handful of the school's best musicians (all of whom would eventually join Diaz on the road) were recruited to record her 2007 debut album, Skin and Bone. A pair of EPs, Ten Gun Salute and Far from the Things That We Know, followed in 2009 and 2011, respectively. In early 2012, Diaz's second album, Plastic Moon, cracked the Top 20 of the Billboard's Heatseekers Albums chart, and she peaked at number 48 on the same list with that October's We Threw Our Hearts in the Fire. After signing with Nettwerk, her fourth long-player, the synths-tinged Phantom, arrived in September 2014. In the meantime, her songs were featured on numerous television shows (Nashville, Pretty Little Liars, Army Wives), and she appeared as a backing vocalist on albums by the likes of Miranda Lambert, James Blunt, and Charlie Worsham. After releasing the introspective It's Okay to Be Alone EP in 2018, Diaz signed with Anti-/Epitaph for the still more emotionally raw History of a Feeling. Co-produced with Andrew Sarlo (Big Thief, Courtney Marie Andrews), it was released in August 2021. Same History, New Feelings, an EP of intimate, reworked songs from History of a Feeling, appeared the following year. 2023 saw Diaz join Harry Styles' band on guitar and backing vocals for the European leg of his Love On Tour. Later that year, she released "Don't Do Me Good" featuring Kacey Musgraves, a highlight from another emotionally candid album, February 2024's Weird Faith. It was co-produced by singer/songwriter Sam Cohen (Kevin Morby, Emily King) and Konrad Snyder (Noah Kahan, Stephen Sanchez). Diaz released a deluxe version of the album later in the year with several additional tracks including the collaborative single "One Less Question" with Canadian singer Lennon Stella. Soon after, Weird Faith was the recipient of two Grammy nominations, for Best Folk Album and Best Americana Performance for "Don't Do Me Good." Diaz followed the critical acclaim with an album that was even musically stark and emotionally bare. The final chapter in an unofficial trilogy, October 2025's Fatal Optimist was produced by Diaz and Gabe Wax with an aim to reflect isolation through arrangements that frequently featured only two or three instruments in all and focused on voice and acoustic guitar. - Biography by Marcy Donelson

Tiana Major9 roots their bold blend of future-facing R&B, enduring soul, and hip-hop attitude in boundless jazz and gospel eloquence, twisted up with saucy East London inflections. Acclaimed by ELLE UK, British Vogue, Flaunt, Vice, Wonderland Magazine, Billboard, and Complex (just to name a few) and streamed over 200 million times to date, the British Caribbean artist honed a classic style through a contemporary prism on their debut “AT SIXES AND SEVENS”. Raised in the London borough of Newham, Tiana initially embraced singing at the tender age of five. Enrolled in vocal training, their mum often came home and shared the new skills learnt in her weekly lessons. Tiana’s mother became a Sunday School teacher early on in her life, which meant Tiana got the opportunity to not only sing in church but to also teach songs to the other kids. Tiana’s father often shared his Caribbean heritage with the family through food and music, which they attribute to the Jamaican influence in their artistry: “I (still) feel the Jamaican influence on everything I do,” she goes on. “It’s in the way I speak, how I look, and the grooves of the music.” Drawing early inspiration from D’Angelo, Stevie Wonder, Janelle Monáe, Esperanza Spalding, and Amy Winehouse and combining that passion with their musical upbringing made Tiana who they are today. In 2019, Tiana dropped “Rehearsal @ NINE”, their debut EP and lent their voice to “Rainfall” from Stormzy’s Heavy Is The Head later that year. Along the way, BBC Radio 1 Xtra named her among its “Hot for 2019” list. In addition, Tiana shared the stage with everyone from Jessie J and Kelela to Ray BLK and Lauryn Hill. To close out the year, they joined forces with EARTHGANG for “Collide” from Queen & Slim: The Soundtrack. Not only did it exceed over 50 million streams, but it also earned them their first Grammy Nomination for “Best R&B Song”. Tiana later performed the collaboration alongside the duo on the Late Show with Stephen Colbert, at the Soul Train Awards, and at Billboard “Women In Music” making their TV debut. Following their early success, Tiana showed no signs of slowing down and continued on an impressive run of features lending their dynamic artistry to some of the world’s most prolific artists like Lucky Daye (“On Read” from Grammy Winning EP “A Table For Two”) and Babyface (“Say Less” from the Grammy Nominated “Girls Night Out” album). Tiana also continued building on their touring audience by supporting Adele, Jazmine Sullivan as well as Victoria Monet on the road. Most recently, Tiana has been unveiling her highly anticipated debut album November Scorpio, set for release on February 13th. The four songs released so far - “Alone,” “Money,” “Shook One,” and “Always” featuring Yebba -- have collectively amassed over 5 million global streams, earning widespread acclaim from both fans and critics. The singles have received massive support across UK radio, including BBC Radio 1, 1Xtra, and Capital XTRA, alongside glowing coverage from major outlets such as Clash, The Line of Best Fit, Notion, and Rolling Stone UK. Each release has highlighted Tiana’s unmistakable vocal presence, rich musicality, and honest storytelling. With November Scorpio on the horizon, Tiana Major9 stands firmly in her artistry - delivering the kind of timeless, emotionally charged R&B that continues to set her apart on the global stage.

Having amassed over 41.2 million global streams to date, Rose burst onto the scene with her 2019 debut project, To Myself, which landed her early co-signs by SZA, J. Cole, James Blake, Kehlani, and LeBron James. The project received large critical acclaim from The New York Times, Pitchfork, VOGUE, NPR, Rolling Stone, Billboard, and many more. It was followed by a mesmerizing NPR Tiny Desk performance for the books, a sold-out headlining worldwide tour and major placements on HBO’s ‘Insecure’ and Kenya Barris’ award-winning ‘Grownish’. Later the singer received a GRAMMY nomination for her contribution to Dreamville’s Revenge of the Dreamers III album and was also featured on albums from Big KRIT and Matt Martians. On the heels of the album, Rose embarked on a national co-headlining tour alongside Q, aptly named the Through The Soul tour, closing out the year strong. Later on, in 2024, Rose released her acclaimed collaborative project Slow Burn featuring Badbadnotgood, which arrived to large critical acclaim and would lead her to tour with Vince Staples across the US. Rose made her debut on the big screen in 2025 in the A24 film The Materialists by esteemed director Celine Song that saw her performing "I’ll Be Your Mirror" and "That’s All" both of which were released as part of the official film soundtrack. In early 2026, Baby Rose returned with her breakout single “Friends Again” featuring Leon Thomas, which quickly became her most successful release to date - both commercially and critically. It has garnered over 12 million global streams, and it was lauded by NPR, The New York Times, BET, Hypebeast, Billboard, VIBE, Colors, and Okayplayer, giving a taste of what’s to come from an upcoming body of work from Rose soon.

One of the most talented voices in contemporary rap, Vince Staples takes the hardened perspective of his Long Beach-via-Compton upbringing and elevates it above his contemporaries with forward-thinking production choices and lyrical introspection. After releasing a batch of mixtapes that were well-received by fans and peers alike, he issued his official debut album, Summertime '06, a 2015 hit that spawned the gold-certified "Norf Norf." Staples quickly followed with 2016's politically charged Prima Donna EP. With his star swiftly rising, he had a breakthrough year in 2017 with a spot on the Black Panther soundtrack, a feature on the Gorillaz track "Ascension," and another hit single, "BagBak," from his critically acclaimed sophomore album, Big Fish Theory. Staples' range grew on subsequent releases, such as the brisk FM! (2018), the highly reflective Ramona Park Broke My Heart (2022), and the rock experimentation of Cry Baby (2026.) Born in Compton, California, Staples grew up in Long Beach, balancing education and sports with street life, which would inform much of his later lyrical content. He surfaced early in the 2010s with a spate of promising appearances on Odd Future-related recordings -- including Earl Sweatshirt's "epaR," Mike G's "Moracular World" and Award Tour EP, the Jet Age of Tomorrow's "Lunchbox," and Domo Genesis' "Elimination Chamber," as well as the 2011 mixtape Shyne Goldchain. In 2012, the rapper released Winter in Prague, a mixtape issued as a free download with the production work handled entirely by Michael Uzowuru. A darker, more introspective mixtape, Stolen Youth, arrived in 2013 with a co-billing to Larry Fisherman (a Mac Miller alias) and verses from Ab-Soul, ScHoolboy Q, Mac Miller (as Mac Miller), and Cutthroat Boyz partner Joey Fatts. Staples then performed as the opening act on Miller's Space Migration tour. Among Staples' assists in 2013 were verses on Earl Sweatshirt's Doris and Jhené Aiko's "The Vapors." The rapper continued his steady ascent in 2014 with a fourth mixtape, Shyne Goldchain, Vol. 2, and contributions to Common's Nobody's Smiling -- specifically on the key single "Kingdom," as well as on the deluxe-edition bonus track "Out on Bond." Staples' debut album, Summertime '06, landed in 2015 with production from Clams Casino and No ID. It rose to number three on the Billboard R&B/hip-hop chart and was selected as one of the top albums of 2015 on many notable year-end lists. The following summer, Staples released Prima Donna, a seven-track EP that featured A$AP Rocky and Kilo Kish. Again breaking into the Top Ten on the R&B/hip-hop chart, the EP featured production by James Blake and an accompanying short film. In 2017, in addition to featuring on the Gorillaz album Humanz, Staples issued his sophomore album, Big Fish Theory. The effort featured contributions by Bon Iver, Kilo Kish, Juicy J, Damon Albarn, Kendrick Lamar, Sophie, Flume, Rick Ross, A$AP Rocky, Ty Dolla $ign, and more. The critically acclaimed release peaked in the Top 20 of the Billboard 200, Top R&B/hip-hop, and rap albums charts. Staples followed with an appearance on the Gorillaz track "Ascension" and "Opps" from the chart-topping soundtrack to the film Black Panther. In late 2018, Staples surprised fans with the unannounced release of his taut and immediate third album, FM! The record featured guests Earl Sweatshirt, Tyga, Ty Dolla $ign, Kamaiyah, Kehlani, and many more. Along with garnering positive critical reviews nearly across the board, the album was also a commercially charting success. The next year, Staples released a series of singles, beginning with "So What? (Episode 01)," followed by "Sheet Music (Episode 02)" and "Hell Bound (Ad 01)," all of which appeared on his online streaming series The Vince Staples Show, which was later picked up by Netflix. Staples' next album era kicked off in 2021 with the singles "Law of Averages" and "Are You with That?" from his self-titled fourth effort. Released that July, Vince Staples was a quick burst of his typically smart lyricism and inventive production, which turned inward as his most introspective work to date. The album reached number 12 on the rap chart and 21 on the Billboard 200. The song "Magic," featuring Mustard, arrived in February 2022. It appeared on Ramona Park Broke My Heart, a full-length detailing Staples' relationship with his Long Beach neighborhood. The first Netflix season of The Vince Staples Show premiered in February 2024. Dark Times, the rapper's final Def Jam release, was issued in May, with lyrics focusing more on his present-day life than his upbringing. Over the next few years, he made appearances on JID and JPEGMafia albums. In June of 2026, Staples released his seventh studio album, and first with the Loma Vista label, Cry Baby. The album was yet another shift in Staples' artistry, with some songs embracing live rock instrumentation, distortion, and approaches to rap that were decidedly not within the hip-hop tradition. - Biography by Andy Kellman
