Emeline Easton, who operates under the stylized mononym EMELINE, is an American singer, songwriter, actress, and musician with a stylish aesthetic, blunt and biting lyrics, and a seductive dark-pop sound. A native of Providence, Rhode Island, she released a string of singles as Emeline Easton before adopting the EMELINE moniker upon moving to Los Angeles in 2017. Debuting in 2020 with the punchy “6 Foot Deep,” which detailed her experiences with misogyny while coming up in the music business, EMELINE quickly became a social media pop sensation, eliciting millions of streams for the track and its accompanying video. Later that year, she teamed up with Thievery Corporation’s Rob Garza on the EP Where the Moon Hides, and in 2021 she issued a string of vibrant singles including the streaming hits “What It Means to Be a Girl,” “This Is How I Learn to Say No,” and “Flowers & Sex,” the latter of which featured Grammy-nominated electronic duo SMLE. Alternately fuzzy, shimmery, and rumbling, NewDad put a weary, intimate spin on 1980s and ’90s alt rock inspirations. Led by the airy, tepid vocals of Julie Dawson, the group released their debut EP, Waves, in 2021 to much acclaim in their native Ireland. As their popularity grew, they followed their second EP, 2022’s Banshee, with their full-length debut MADRA in 2024. It maintained their distinctive balance of muscular and gentle sounds. Another EP, Safe, followed in 2025.

Founded in Galway in 2018, NewDad’s original lineup consisted of secondary school classmates Julie Dawson (vocals/guitar), Áindle O’Beirn (bass), and Fiachra Parslow (drums). Sean O’Dowd, who was studying music technology elsewhere at the time, began recording the band, and he eventually became their full-time lead guitarist. Their first single, “How,” appeared in March 2020 and was followed by several more songs by the time NewDad accepted an invitation to record a live session for BBC 6 Music in November of that year. Singles like the viral “Blue” and “I Don’t Recognise You” were included on their melancholy debut EP Waves. Recorded in Belfast with engineer Chris W. Ryan, it appeared in March of 2021. NewDad were soon in rotation on BBC Radio 1 and playing out in the U.K. They returned to the studio with Ryan to record their second EP, Banshee. Featuring mixing by John Congleton (Death Cab for Cutie, Suuns), it followed in February 2022. That year, the band toured in support of Dope Lemon, opened shows for Paolo Nutini, and sold out a U.K. headlining tour, in addition to appearances at festivals including Paris’ Rock en Seine.

Newly signed to Fair Youth/Atlantic Records, the group welcomed Cara Joshi to the lineup on bass, replacing O’Beirn. Their label debut and first recording with Joshi was May 2023’s “In My Head,” which found them branching out with producers Riley Macintyre (Royal Blood, the Kills) and Jacob Manson (the Vamps, Paloma Faith). Nevertheless, they rejoined Ryan in the studio for their full-length debut, January 2024’s MADRA (Irish for “dog”). It was mixed by studio veteran Alan Moulder (the Jesus and Mary Chain, Nine Inch Nails, Beach House). A veteran of the L.A. psychedelic scene, Michael Collins turns the trippiness down to a slow boil for his Drugdealer project. Built around his smooth keyboard playing and plangent soft rock melodies, the band re-creates the laid-back sound and vibe of Laurel Canyon of the ’70s, while also sounding as technically pure as a studio full of session players. Two albums recorded in the late 2010s (The End of Comedy and Raw Honey) combined Collins’ songwriting and producing skills with his knack for rounding up interesting collaborators like Weyes Blood and Ariel Pink. Tim Presley and Kate Bollinger were among the guests on the project’s third LP, 2022’s Hiding in Plain Sight.

Collins first became known while playing under the name Run DMT, a lo-fi psychedelic project started in 2009 that released a couple of albums before being sued by an EDM band of the same name. After changing the project’s name to Salvia Plath, Collins took a folkier, more layered approach on the 2013 album The Bardo Story. With Drugdealer, he changed directions again, looking to the singer/songwriters of the early ’70s and soft rock pioneers like Harry Nilsson and Steely Dan for inspiration. The band’s 2016 album, The End of Comedy, was pieced together from sessions that spanned a nearly-four-year period and released by Weird World in September. On it, Collins invited many guests to contribute including Ariel Pink, Natalie Mering (aka Weyes Blood), Danny James, members of Mild High Club, and Jackson MacIntosh of Sheer Agony. Collins assembled a live band to play shows over the next few years as he painstakingly wrote and recorded another album. Working with a core group of musicians (guitarist Benjamin Schwab, vocalist Sasha Winn, drummer Josh Da Costa, and bassist/co-producer Shags Chamberlain) in a variety of studio settings, Raw Honey came together slowly but surely as Collins doubled down on the soft rock sound and feel of the debut. Guest vocalists this time were Mering again, country crooner Dougie Poole, and fellow L.A. pop revivalist Harley Hill-Richmond (of Harley and the Hummingbirds), while MacIntosh and brothers Brian and Michael D’Addario of the Lemon Twigs also helped out. The record was released by Mexican Summer in April of 2019. The same label issued Drugdealer’s equally collaborative third long-player, October 2022’s Hiding in Plain Sight. Recorded at no less than nine locations, its many contributors included featured singers Tim Presley, Kate Bollinger, and Sean Nicholas Savage, while players like MacIntosh, CMON’s Josh Da Costa, and Video Age also joined in on select tracks. Drugdealer next surfaced in 2025 with a single titled “Real Thing” that was co-produced by French musician Max Baby and featured Weyes Blood on lead vocals. – Biography by Tim Sendra

Whimsical is the word for the kitschy, space age alternative dance music of Los Angeles’ Gelli Haha. Recorded in collaboration with De Lux’s Sean Guerin, the persona’s debut album, Switcheroo, materialized in 2025 with the singles “Bounce House” and “Klouds Will Carry Me to Sleep.”

Raised in Boise, Idaho, the artist known as Gelli Haha (Angel Abaya) played in a number of bands as a teen and young adult in addition to being involved with a dance company, where she played in the band and eventually worked her way up the administrative ladder to program director. She then moved to Los Angeles because of its larger art and music scenes. Along the way she worked as a freelance writer, sometimes covering music. These experiences helped inform the go-for-it, live-up-to-the-description spirit of Gelli Haha, a collaborative music project led by Gelli and co-launched by producer/co-songwriter Sean Guerin (of De Lux). The two decided to work on something together after bonding over a shared affection for off-kilter pop and vintage gear. The sonic universe of Gelli Haha’s debut album did indeed feature loads of audio toys, including an Eventide Harmonizer, an MXR Pitch Transposer, and various Electrix effects. Titled Switcheroo, it arrived on Innovative Leisure in June of 2025, along with the single “Bounce House.” A second single off of the album, “Klouds Will Carry Me to Sleep,” followed in March 2026. – Biography by Marcy Donelson

Made up by Elijah Gibbins-Croft, Oey James, and Ian Robles, Foxtide is a byproduct of being bred by the beach and raised by a DIY house show scene. The SoCal three-piece was formed around garage jam sessions and earned their cult following through the intense vitality of their live shows.

First starting to release music in 2019, it was the band’s second EP Visions in 2021 that took them from a hometown secret to a band to watch nationally. Foxtide has previously played alongside The Backseat Lovers, Echo & The Bunnymen, Lime Cordiale, Sarah and the Sundays, Mustard Service, Beach Goons, and joined the lineup of Shabang, Nothing Fest, and more.

Moving into the chapter of their next project, Foxtide is abandoning the idea that they need to create “perfect” music, and simply making what they like to listen to. Tinged with the aloofness of early 2000s rock, while experimenting with the formulas of modern pop, all threads are knotted in the authenticity behind Foxtide’s unrelenting love for music. The band’s third EP Paradise helped them secure critical looks from Fashionably Early ‘Bands that Deserve to be Bigger’, Luna Collective Magazine, and their debut LA headline show selling out. Their most recent record earned them the cover of Fashionably Early’s playlist as well as their first editorial look from Spotify in ‘All New Rock,’ and Apple’s ‘New In Rock’ and ‘New In Alternative.’ On the heels of the deluxe version, the band secured support tours with Arcy Drive, Pity Party Girls Club, and more to be announced.

Foxtide has most recently signed a record deal with Position Music, and will be releasing their second full length LP, Entropy on April 17th.

Born in Victoria, B.C., and shaped by formative years in Vancouver, artist and producer Sophia Stel found a rapt cult fanbase with her 2024 debut EP Object Permanence, a fiercely vulnerable collection of genre-agnostic earworms fueled by her full-bodied, affecting alto. By following her intuition and going against the grain of online fads, Stel is setting trends, not chasing them — always creating from a place of true originality. Her self-directed, sometimes spur-of-the-moment digicam visuals for tracks like “I’ll Take It” and “You Could Hate Me” have the fuzzy realism of vintage photos or cherished memories: effortlessly cool without ever trying to be. In addition to earning co-signs from Troye Sivan and A.G. Cook, she recently made her runway debut at Ann Demeulemeester’s PFW SS26 show, embarked on her first headline tour, modeled for Palace Skateboards, and was selected for this year’s DAZED 100 following the release of her sophomore EP How to Win At Solitaire. Continuing to push the boundaries of today’s music landscape while honing in on a truly singular, post-genre sound that’s all her own, Stel is currently working on her debut album.

Blending the free-wheeling ethos of underground culture with the striking lyricism and honesty of indie rock, post-internet, post-genre artist Sophia Stel has the makings of a voice of a generation. A lifelong musician, she crafted her first melodies acapella before discovering an enduring love of beatmaking in high school. Following a move to Vancouver, Stel honed her production skills, passing long nights in a humble basement studio at since-shuttered DIY club Paradise (where she worked at the time), which she diligently set up and tore down again after each weekend club night. It was during this period that she embraced her lower register, a pillar of a new sense of artistic freedom that brought her closer to both a signature sound and her flourishing queer identity. Brave enough to be emotionally honest both on and off the mic, she’s further opened up in recent spreads with DAZED, The FADER, NME, and Office Magazine.

Written at the end of a three-year relationship, her latest EP How to Win At Solitaire marks Stel’s most personal and profound statement yet, buoyed by her return to an instrument she’s loved since childhood: electric guitar. The stunning result of this homecoming shines through across the record: exultant and romantic opener “Everyone Falls Asleep In Their Own Time”, cascading ballad “Taste”, and the cathartic and danceable “All My Friends Are Models”. Striking closing track “Solitaire” hits closest to home, finding Stel accepting that someone she cares about may never see all the ways she’s grown and changed. It also speaks to the sharp metaphor for living that inspired the title: “All you can try and do is move your cards with intention, and do the best you can with the cards you’re dealt.”

Despite Stel’s grounded life sharing a “dream apartment” with two younger brothers, she’s not slowing down. She recently made her runway debut at Ann Demeulemeester’s PFW SS26 show, embarked on her first headline tour, which included a performance at Pitchfork Festival in Paris, modeled for Palace Skateboards, and was selected for this year’s DAZED 100 following the release of her sophomore EP How to Win At Solitaire. Beneath the painted hues and infinite prairie skies of Saskatoon — a city in the heart of Canada — lies a soulful, creative spirit that proves there’s much more to the so-called ‘fly-over states’ than grassland and grain silos.

Katie Tupper, a 23-year old neo-soul musician, embodies that spirit and is determined to show there’s an entire world of boundary-pushing, genre-defying artists at work within the often overlooked region.

Central to that mission is her new EP Towards the End — a sultry, glittering debut that showcases Tupper’s mastery as a musician, writer and producer. With this new music, Tupper wants to connect listeners from across genres and generations. “I want everyone to be able to find a part of my music to connect to. The lyrics that I’m finding the easiest to write at the moment are very coming of age which I think a younger crowd gravitates to. That being said, the subjects I write about can appeal to all generations.” She says.

Towards the End is an ode to love, identity and the inextricable ways the two entwine. “It’s about navigating young love. About how we adapt and change with new people,” she says.

The five song EP is a bright and moving mix of indie and neo-soul that will have no trouble breaking hearts or soundtracking your new love.

Tupper also hopes to bring a sense of warmth to listeners. “I would like my sound to be an escape and to be a colourful moment of rest,” she says. “I’d like the lyrics to put you in a good mood, making you feel comfortable as a person who’s constantly changing and evolving.”

And those lyrics are captivating throughout the record, often betraying a keen understanding of how love reflects our past and present selves.

An important part of that reflection comes from Tupper’s growing up in prairie town Saskatoon, Saskatchewan surrounded by “fields of butter”. Inspiration is also drawn from her own experiences in love. On the opening track “Live Inside,” she challenges notions of identity and what it means to let someone change your appearance. “I don’t think you know, just how good it felt, to take golden hairs off your golden head” A reflection on a partner letting Tupper shave their head on a whim. A surrender into your relationship and allowing your partner to become a piece of who you look like everyday. She closes out the album with “Misbehavin’,” a painfully relatable love song about challenging bad habits.

Tupper began honing her music from a young age, turning early piano lessons into a tool for writing lyrics and melodies. Then at just 14 she toured the U.S. with a marching band, lugging a massive bass drum around in parades.

As she entered a world of creating and performing music professionally, she experienced the broad industry trend of diminishing women’s contributions first hand. As such, it was very important for her to stay involved with every element of the production process. Towards the End was written, performed, and arranged by Tupper and co-produced with Connor Seidel (Charlotte Cardin, Matt Holubowski). And we’re all better for it.

Tupper’s heart and soul is intertwined with every moment and every sound on Towards the End. It’s an honest glimpse through the eyes of a special, young talent.

A sonically expansive progressive metalcore band, California’s Dayseeker make explosive anthems with a melodic, arena rock flair. Getting their start in the early 2010s, they released their official debut full-length What It Means to Be Defeated in 2013. Their sophomore effort Origin landed in 2015. Following both lineup and label changes, they issued their third set Dreaming Is Sinking/Waking Is Rising in 2017. Their sound continued to evolve with the hit 2019 album Sleeptalk and 2022’s Dark Sun. Following the acoustic Replica, they returned to their atmospheric metal style with 2025’s Creature in the Black Night.

Formed in Orange County in 2012, the group features the talents of former Arms Like Yours members vocalist Rory Rodriguez and guitarist Alex Polk, along with guitarist Gino Sgambelluri, bassist Andrew Sharp, and drummer Mike Karle. In 2013, they released an untitled EP and signed to InVogue Records. The full-length album What It Means to Be Defeated followed that same year. In 2015, Dayseeker released their sophomore full-length album, Origin, which featured production from Nick Ingram (Huntington, For Today, Hotel Books) and marked their first showing on the U.S. Heatseekers chart.

2016 proved to be a somewhat tumultuous year for the band with the departure of both Polk and Sharp, as well as a switch from InVogue to Spinefarm Records. Former At the Skylines member Shawn Yates came aboard as the new guitarist and the group completed work on their third LP, Dreaming Is Sinking/Waking Is Rising, which saw release in July 2017. Two years later, the band returned with album number four, the sonically diverse and melody-driven Sleeptalk. The set proved to be a hit, rising to number three on the U.S. Heatseekers chart and spawning a special deluxe release in 2021 that included “reimagined” versions of album tracks.

The band’s fifth effort, Dark Sun, arrived in late 2022. Influenced by major changes in Rodriguez’s life the previous year, the grief-stricken, cathartic album featured the hit track “Neon Grave.” An acoustic album, Replica, appeared in 2024 with guest appearances by Moxy the Band’s Amber DeLaRosa, Holding Absence’s Lucas Woodland, and Beartooth’s Caleb Shomo. Dexta Daps was born in Seaview Garden, Jamaica, known for reggae legends such as Shabba Ranks, Bounty Killer, Elephant Man and Garnet Silk.

Growing up in the poverty stricken streets he learnt to take out his frustration the best way he knew how, through music. ” I would hear the melodic voices of the kids crying for help, and the sadness of the people. Their voices, and hunger for retribution was very inspiring for me, and made me want to sing songs of happiness and joy.”

In this day and age of music influences, Contemporary Reggae Music, has become a commodity that has crossed over to Rhythm and Blues, Hip-Hop/Rap, all the way to the Pop world. Dexta Daps has been compared to Sean Paul and Maxi Priest with his versatility and unique voice. His style is different and refreshing and with his debut first singles, “Save Me Jah” & “May You Be”, he has proven that. Shaking the dancehall up from Rochester to New York all the way to down to Florida and throughout the United States., Dexta Daps has made a movement of young and old packing the party to hear his songs play. He also demonstrates that he has the Dance-Hall abilities with his underground hit “Seaview”. More recently working with artists such as I Octane, Movado, Bugle, Razz n Biggie, Dexta Daps is currently signed to DASECA Productions.

She joined Dry Cleaning in early 2018 after some convincing, and her seemingly detached delivery of lyrics pieced together from her artwork, overheard conversations, newspapers, and advertising added another layer to the band’s music.

Once their lineup was complete, Dry Cleaning recorded their debut EP Sweet Princess — which featured the single “Magic of Meghan,” a song combining Shaw’s feelings about a recent breakup and Meghan Markle — in one day and self-released it later in 2018. They began playing shows that May, making their live debut at Dalston’s Shacklewell Arms. Another self-released EP, Boundary Road Snacks and Drinks (named for the band’s rehearsal space) arrived in October 2019. Around that time, the It’s OK label released a compilation of the two EPs that reached number 36 on the U.K. Indie chart. The group’s consistent touring included U.S. dates just before the onset of the COVID-19 global pandemic in early 2020; by the end of the year, Dry Cleaning signed to 4AD and issued the single “Scratchcard Lanyard.” The song also appeared on April 2021’s full-length New Long Leg, which they recorded with producer John Parish at Rockfield Studio in Wales. The album peaked at number four on the U.K. Albums chart and earned widespread critical acclaim. In the wake of this success, Dry Cleaning contributed their version of Grimes’ “Oblivion” to the 4AD 2021 benefit cover compilation Bills & Aches & Blues. As the Lemon Twigs, sons of power pop songwriter/multi-instrumentalist Ronnie D’Addario, Brian and Michael D’Addario channel the ’70s singer/songwriter energy of their father’s era and add a healthy love of musical theater and an over-the-top performance. The brothers began writing songs at young ages and delivered their 2016 debut album, Do Hollywood, on 4AD at the tail-end of their teenage years. Success came quickly, with critical acclaim and a string of TV appearances as well as extensive touring. They evolved from the conceptual eccentricity of their 2018 sophomore album, Go to School, to a more varied but no less bombastic set of songs on their 2020 album Songs for the General Public, to the emotionally naked sentiments of their more subtle but still wildly eclectic albums like 2023’s Everything Harmony and the following year’s A Dream Is All We Know.

Long Island brothers Brian and Michael D’Addario started the Lemon Twigs while they were still in their teens, each playing multiple instruments, counting guitar, keyboards, drums, horns, and strings among their proficiencies. The boys were raised in a musical home, sons of working musician parents. Along with an interest in theater, early musical influences like Harry Nilsson, Todd Rundgren, Wings, the Zombies, and other ’60s and ’70s Baroque pop figures played heavily into the band’s sound at a formative time. In 2015, their earliest output arrived in the form of the cassette-only album What We Know. Significant buzz had formed around the group even then, and they signed to indie superpower 4AD, releasing their “These Words” b/w “As Long as We’re Together” single in 2016 and selling the 7″ mostly while on a tour supporting Carseat Headrest. Their debut album, Do Hollywood, arrived later in the year, produced by Foxygen’s Jonathan Rado.

The Lemon Twigs embarked on a tour in support of the album with a live version of the band that included Danny Ayala on keyboards and Megan Zeankowski on bass. They returned in September 2017 with Brothers of Destruction, a home-recorded EP written largely during the sessions for Do Hollywood featuring a handful of live staples from their touring set. In August of the next year, sophomore album Go to School arrived, a massive production conceptualized as a musical about a chimpanzee raised by human parents. The ambitious Broadway-inspired record included guest appearances by both of the D’Addario brothers’ parents as well as power pop legends Todd Rundgren and Jody Stephens.

In April 2020, the band returned with The Lemon Twigs LIVE, a fundraiser for Coalition for the Homeless culled from live-to-tape recordings from shows in Rhode Island, Massachusetts, and California. It was followed in August by their third studio full-length, the Rado-co-produced Songs for the General Public. It spent a week on Billboard’s Top Current Album Sales chart (number 61). The brothers contributed to Tim Heidecker’s album Fear of Death, which saw release a month later, and over the next few years also appeared on records by Rundgren and Weyes Blood. The Twigs began work on their next album in 2020 and spent months refining their new material before resurfacing in early 2023 with the self-produced single “Corner of My Eye,” the first song shared in advance of their fourth album Everything Harmony. In addition to their long-running love of glam and theatrical power pop, the band looked to the influence of both mainstream and outsider folk artists for their new set of songs, evoking Simon & Garfunkel on some tracks and Moondog on others. Everything Harmony was released in May of 2023 and was the band’s first album with new label Captured Tracks. Almost exactly a year later, their next album A Dream Is All We Know was released. Singer/songwriter Noah Guy is known for his emotionally raw, genre-bending sound, bringing together his Philly soul roots with pop, hip-hop, and R&B. It’s a textured, sanguine vibe he debuted on 2020’s Sumday and which he has further expanded on EPs like 2021’s is it real?, 2022’s Who’s Taken Time?! (Act 1), and 2024’s It Must Be Love. His full-length debut, MEMORIA, in blue, arrived in 2026.

A native of Philadelphia, Guy grew up crate digging at local record shops, discovering the work of classic Philly icons Gamble & Huff as well as R&B artists like the Roots and Musiq Soulchild. He became more serious about music in college (playing guitar and writing songs), eventually transferring to NYU, where he studied film and interned at the Brooklyn-based Fool’s Gold label. It was after he moved back home to live with his parents during the early part of the COVID-19 pandemic that he began digging deeper into recording his music, bringing together his love of singer/songwriter pop, hip-hop, rap, and more. In quick succession, he delivered two EPs, 2020’s Sumday and 2021’s is it real?

Following a move to Los Angeles, he issued a third EP, 2022’s Who’s Taken Time?! (Act 1). Included on the release were the tracks “2 Dogs 1 Leash” and “Small Talk Carolina,” the latter of which featured the Spirit of New Orleans Gospel Choir. Who’s Taken Time?! (Act II) appeared a year later. A sixth EP, It Must Be Love, arrived in 2024. In 2026, Guy delivered his full-length debut, MEMORIA, in blue. Grammy-winning singer, songwriter and producer Eric Bellinger has built one of the most respected careers in R&B by blending timeless soul with forward-thinking innovation. Los Angeles indie quintet Inner Wave play a bright, experimental mix of psych-pop and synthwave that earned them a significant streaming presence and die-hard regional following in the mid-2010s, thanks in part to songs like “American Spirits” and “Eclipse.” The group’s quirky but catchy songs and combined Filipino, Colombian, and Mexican heritage have helped make them underground stars in the area’s Latinx indie rock community alongside acts like Chicano Batman and Cuco. Their 2017 album, Underwater Pipe Dreams, proved to be somewhat of a breakout, earning critical acclaim and increasing their visibility on a national level. The ambitious Apoptosis appeared in 2021, followed by several years of heavy touring. Inner Wave signed with Nettwerk in 2025 and issued their fifth album, See You When I Get Back, early the next year.

A group of childhood friends from Inglewood who began playing together in their teens, the band consists of Pablo Sotelo (vocals/guitar), Jean Pierre Narvaez (bass/vocals), Chris Runners (keys/vocals), Elijah Trujillo (guitar/keys), and Luis Portillo (drums). An early diet of bands like the Arctic Monkeys, the Strokes, and Gorillaz fueled their imagination as they learned their instruments and began writing songs together during high school in the late 2000s. By the time they began releasing music in 2012, Inner Wave had transformed themselves into a psych-driven indie pop band with a lo-fi bent and a strong D.I.Y. presence. A series of self-released singles and EPs paved the way for their first full-length, 2013’s III. The album’s bubbly lo-fi single, “American Spirits,” went on to notch millions of streams on major streaming platforms. The exploratory Sun Transmissions followed a year later as Inner Wave continued to build buzz as a live band. A steady stream of signals throughout early 2017 preceded the August release of their ambitious third album, Underwater Pipe Dreams. An hour long and boasting 18 tracks, the experimental set was followed in 2018 by similarly toned companion EP, Underwater +, further bolstering their reputation as a creative and engaging act. Inner Wave returned in 2019 with the warped but sunny EP wya, and a concert album, Live at the Fonda, Los Angeles, 2019. A fourth studio album finally materialized in 2021, Apoptosis, another eclectic and sophisticated set, partly recorded live in the studio and completed in quarantine by singer/guitarist Pablo Sotelo. Keyboardist Jose Cruz soon joined the band’s live lineup and they spent the bulk of the next few years on tour. When Inner Wave finally returned with new music, they had joined the Nettwerk label, which released the percussive “Madre” in 2025. Marked by their lyrical, elegantly crafted folk-pop, Flyte are an English band who first rose to success in the latter half of the 2010s. Their acclaimed debut, The Loved Ones, introduced a lush, harmony-driven style that often recalled classic bands of the ’60s and ’70s. As they evolved with albums like 2021’s This Is Really Going to Hurt and 2023’s Flyte, their sound grew more nuanced and stripped-down, occasionally augmented by outside collaborators like Laura Marling and the Staves. Flyte returned in 2025 with their Ethan Johns-produced fourth album, Between You and Me.

Formed in 2013 by school friends Will Taylor (vocals, guitar), Nick Hill (bass), and Jon Supran (drums), the band recruited Sam Berridge (keyboards, vocals) to complete Flyte’s original lineup. Their debut EP, Live, was recorded in one day with Dan Grech-Marguerat (Lana Del Rey, Moby), and they followed it in early 2014 with the single “We Are the Rain,” which became something of a breakout for the young band. The attention it earned was enough to net them a deal with Island Records, which handled their next EP, Diamond White, and subsequent singles “Closer Together” and “Please Eloise.” For their debut full-length, Flyte flew to Australia to record with producer Burke Reid (Courtney Barnett, the Drones). Released in 2017, The Loved Ones was a critical success, its rich harmonies and ambitious arrangements earning comparisons to the Beatles and Beach Boys. In the aftermath of touring the record, Berridge left the band and for a time they worked with Staves’ Jess Stavely-Taylor as a live member; the Staves also contributed to Flyte’s 2019 EP White Roses.

Work on their follow-up album began with returning producer Reid, but was ultimately completed in Los Angeles with several other producers including Andrew Sarlo (Big Thief) and Justin Raisen (Angel Olsen). This Is Really Going to Hurt was released by Island in 2021 and bore a rawer, more emotional tone inspired by Taylor’s recent breakup after an eight-year relationship. Flyte’s lineup shifted yet again with the departure of Supran. The core duo of Taylor and Hill became more collaborative on their next effort, a 2023 self-titled album produced by Sarlo that featured a duet with Laura Marling on the song “Tough Love.”

Seeking a more instinctual and honest approach, the duo wrote their next album quickly and hired producer Ethan Johns to capture its themes of spontaneity and growth. A songwriter for the stars, for the stage, and a singer/songwriter in her own right, Carol Ades injects poignancy and broad-ranging melodies into tales of heartbreak and introspection. A onetime finalist on NBC’s The Voice, she dabbled in electro-pop before finding steady work as a songwriter in Los Angeles. She had co-written songs including the soundtrack entry “Invisible” by Zara Larsson and the Hot 100-charting “Past Life” by Trevor Daniel and Selena Gomez before making her singer/songwriter debut with the breakup-themed Through in 2021, an EP that bridged pop and indie pop/rock stylings. She returned with the EP Sadtown USA a year later and singles including “Hope Is a Scary Thing” and “Dreams” in 2024. In the meantime, she racked up dozens of songwriting credits, including tracks for Demi Lovato, Kesha, Benny Blanco, and Ava Max.

Born and raised in New Jersey and based in Los Angeles, Caroline Ades Pennell was a finalist on the fifth season of The Voice in 2013. That led to a contract with Nettwerk, and she released a series of EDM-influenced pop singles in the mid-2010s under her given name. It wasn’t long before she concentrated on writing songs for others, and by the end of the decade, she had co-written songs including Zara Larsson’s “Invisible” from the Klaus soundtrack and album tracks for Grace VanderWaal, X Lovers, and Astrid S.

Following a bad breakup, she started writing through her own story, taking influence from TV shows including Fleabag, related women authors, and indie cinema as well as music acts like MUNA and Phoebe Bridgers. The first product of this period was “Past Life,” a song that was ultimately recorded by Trevor Daniel and Selena Gomez (and credited to a team that included Pennell, Daniel, and Finneas O’Connell, among others). She was able to be more productive with the downtime that came with the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, and she released her first solo single, the self-depreciating “I Can’t Wait to Be British,” in June 2021. In October, the song was included on her debut EP, Through. That year also saw the world premiere of WILD: A Musical Becoming, a stage musical created by Tony-winning playwright V (The Vagina Monologues), Grammy-nominated songwriter Justin Tranter (Selena Gomez, Ariana Grande), and Carol, as Caroline Pennell. Idina Menzel played the lead character, a single mother trying to save the planet. Pennell also contributed heavily to Demi Lovato’s 2021 album Dancing with the Devil…The Art of Starting Over and worked on songs released by Ava Max, Benny Blanco, and others that year.

Back as Carol Ades, she issued her second EP, Sadtown USA, in late 2022. In 2023, she released singles including “Free” and earned credits on Kesha’s Gag Order and K.Flay’s Mono LPs. Skizzy Mars is a New York City-based MC who specializes in jocular, melodic, slightly left-of-center hip-hop with diversions into numerous strands of rock and other dancefloor styles. The Red Balloon Project (2015) and Alone Together (2016), respectively his first commercial EP and album, effectively launched his career with Billboard 200 placements for both. While he has always been known for lighthearted material, Skizzy’s subsequent projects — including Free Skizzy Mars (2019), Fun & Problems (2021), and Bad as I Wanna Be (2024) — have documented his growth as an artist and individual with verses relating deep reflection and wisdom.

Born and raised in Harlem, Skizzy (Myles Mills) got into modern rock bands, later immersed himself in the output of rappers like Kid Cudi and Kanye West, and traced back to A Tribe Called Quest. While still a teenager, he uploaded “Douchebag,” a track that caught some attention and prompted him to expose more material that attracted a publishing deal. A couple mixtapes, Phases and Pace, followed in 2013 and 2014, respectively. The Red Balloon Project, a seven-track EP supported by major distribution from WEA, was released in February 2015 and debuted at number 35 on the Billboard 200 chart.

Alone Together, Skizzy’s proper debut album, followed in April 2016 with appearances from JoJo and Rome Fortune, among others. It landed at number 50 on the Billboard 200. That same year, he appeared with Jasmine Thompson on Vice’s “Steady 1234” single, later collaborating with Take a Daytrip on 2017’s “She Knows.” The following year, Skizzy issued the vulnerable are you OK? EP, which featured the singles “American Dream” and “2006.” Months later, he teamed with Prelow for the collaborative set I Can’t Take Me Anywhere. In 2019, he released the full-length Free Skizzy Mars, which featured guests 24kGoldn, Yoshi Flower, and Trevor Daniel. The album’s carefree “Calabasas” quickly became one of the rapper’s most popular tracks. Next came Fun & Problems, issued in 2021 with no featured appearances and a handful of tracks — such as the romantic and feel-good “Slow Dance” — eclipsing over a million streams.

Skizzy then joined the roster of the 10K Projects label, and in 2024 delivered Bad as I Wanna Be, another snapshot of his personal and creative evolution. Under the name Melody’s Echo Chamber, French musician Melody Prochet crafts sweet and swirling psych pop that brings in elements of trippy prog and lightly spooky folk. Working in collaborations with musicians from Tame Impala (on 2012’s self-titled album) and Dungen (on 2018’s Bon Voyage and 2022’s Emotional Eternal), she crafts albums that meld her bewitching melodies to music that truly meets the criteria to be deemed psychedelic. Her template proved mutable enough that when she shifted gears on 2025’s Sven Wunder-produced Unclouded, the addition of more prominent drums and a small string section only made her sound more beguiling.

Prochet worked in various bands before starting Melody’s Echo Chamber in 2012 after having a dream that the acoustics of her bedroom projected an infinite delay. No stranger to performance, Prochet had already worked with the twee pop Narcoleptic Dancers and the dreamy My Bee’s Garden, a project she was very much central to. When My Bee’s Garden supported Australian guitar rockers Tame Impala on a European tour in 2010, Prochet bonded with Kevin Parker, who offered to help with production of her new solo material as Melody’s Echo Chamber. The two worked quickly, with some elements of the project’s lushly dreamy songs recorded in Parker’s makeshift studio and some laid down in her grandmother’s seaside home in the South of France. The self-titled album was released on Fat Possum Records in the fall of 2012, and Prochet assembled a live band to fill out her solo songs as plans for tours and live performances started accumulating.

She began working on a second album with Parker, but things stalled out and she moved back home to France. She continued work on the album but eventually abandoned the songs, going so far as to delete many of them permanently. Prochet moved to Sweden, and along the way met up with Dungen’s Reine Fiske and the Amazing’s Fredrik Swahn. The trio, along with Dungen’s Gustav Ejstes and Johan Holmegard, crafted a free-flowing mix of prog, psych, and pop that had a much looser and surprising feel than her debut. They finished the album and a song was released in April of 2017, but then Prochet suffered a major injury that halted the record’s planned release to allow her time to heal. A little more than a year later, Bon Voyage was issued by Fat Possum. Following the record’s release, Prochet stepped away from music entirely, moving to the Alps with her partner and starting a family. Inspired by the only music she heard, the ambient music that played while her partner mediated, her mind gradually turned back to composing and she teamed again with Fiske. The pair began work on new songs by trading files over the internet. Early sessions were halted by the COVID pandemic, then when they began again, the duo were joined by Swahn. The music they created was a less maximalist, more personal take on the sound of Bon Voyage, focused more on healing than on the exorcizing of demons. It also dealt with themes of motherhood and added some Turkish psych to the musical mix. The resulting album, Emotional Eternal, was released by Domino in April of 2022. Late that year, Fat Possum released Unfold, a short archival treasure that gathered up the existing tracks Prochet recorded, and didn’t delete, for the second Melody’s Echo Chamber album. The songs and production form a bridge between her work with Parker and further albums made in tandem with her Swedish cohorts.

As Unfold hit record shelves, Prochet had begun writing songs for her fourth album. She enlisted a new team of collaborators to bring the songs to life, though Fiske remaned on hand to provide guitar solos. Chief partner in crime this time was producer/keyboardist Sven Wunder and he called in some of his favorite musicians to help as well. Malcolm Catto, who had worked with Madlib, Little Barrie and his own band Heliocentrics, helmed the drums, Josefin Runsteen provided strings, and Dina Ögon members guitarist Daniel Ögen and bassist Love Orsen rounded out the cast. Leon Michel of the El Michels Affair also helped on a song, and Jens Jungkurth, who won a Grammy for his work on Norah Jones’ 2024 record Visions, did the mixing. Clara La San’s ruminative ballads and slow jams mix contemporary R&B and bedroom pop. A perfectionist, the Manchester, England-based singer/songwriter and producer pulled her Jam City-assisted Good Mourning mixtape — featuring “Let You Go,” her spare and hypnotic 2014 breakthrough — within a couple years of its 2017 release. By the time she issued her equally heady and heartfelt 2024 debut album, Made Mistakes, La San had been intermittently active for a decade, and had collaborated with the select likes of Yves Tumor, Bicep, Gorgon City, and Bryson Tiller.

La San, born Rosemary Claire Louise Francis, started uploading tracks while she was attending university. “Let You Go” attracted a SoundCloud following and industry interest, though she opted to maintain a shadowy profile, and continued building her fan base with the airier “In This Darkness.” She picked up a co-writing credit on salute’s 2016 track “One More Chance” (featuring DRAM), and the next year appeared on TD_Nasty’s “Where U Wanna Be” and released Good Mourning, a mixtape that contained “Let You Go” and collaborations with producer Jam City.

At the turn of the decade — by which point Good Mourning was out of circulation — La San branched out more by co-writing Yves Tumor’s “Greater Love,” which was followed by featured appearances on Bicep’s “Saku,” “X,” and “Water,” all of which she also co-wrote. In 2023, she picked up a writing credit on Gorgon City’s “Voodoo,” which charted in the U.K., and as her previous music became increasingly coveted, she arranged a digital distribution deal for her CLS Music label. Mal Blum’s forthcoming EP, Ain’t It Nice, bridges indie rock and Americana and centers Blum’s lyrical work as they approach themes of exploration, isolation and longing. Blum will release Ain’t It Nice on April 15, 2022 with lead singles “Stockpiled Guns & TV Dinners,” and “Candy Bars & Men”.

From the opening twang of warbling slide guitar, it’s clear this is a different kind of record for Blum, who partnered with a new collaborator, producer Kyle Andrews. Andrews provided most of the instrumentation for the record. Besides stunning guest vocals from Laura Stevenson on third track, “Everybody Loves You” the duo are behind every sound on the EP.

Though the songs bely an immediate intimacy, Blum and Andrews have actually never met. They were paired up for a virtual co-writing project through their shared music publisher (Terrorbird), and became unlikely collaborators across a screen. From California and Wisconsin, respectively, they sent each other ideas, takes, and edits until they had fashioned the six songs that make up Ain’t It Nice.

“It’s funny, this record is built around themes of travel and the open road and searching and connection, but was created in so much isolation” Blum shared.

Motifs of grief, longing, and missing the rambling life, fit quite naturally within the country genre. However, the shift in sound from Blum’s earlier work could be likened to a multitude of factors: the collaboration with Andrews, and Blum’s voice dropping lower, for one. Influences of John Prine and Wilco, and an inability to record with their band during COVID likely contributed as well.

“There’s a lot you can’t control right now. If you want to share your art, just share it.”

Blum offers some of the rawest and most creative work of their career, including their tendency towards lyrics that, in their particularity, manage to cut to the core of universal life experiences. “Just this once, boy, I don’t mind being your secret. Never liked sugar much but now and then I need it,” they sing on “Candy Bars & Men,” a track that feels both vulnerable and universal in its combination of secrecy, desire, bliss and shame.

For Blum, Americana has been its own sort of homecoming. Though the genre hasn’t always embraced its LGBTQ creators and fans, “The fact of the matter is we’re here. We’ve been driving down those roads, we’ve been in those motel rooms, we’ve been everywhere.”

Minneapolis’ VIAL magically met each other through a Tinder post in 2019, brought together by a shared love of 90’s punk, indie, and grunge. Launching into their home scene with their debut Grow Up they quickly became local favorites with everyone from The Current to Music In Minnesota. Signing to LA’s Get Better Records in 2021, their follow up full length, Loudmouth, was an evolution of their indie-pop and alt-rock beginnings but began to hint at other leanings, especially in the tracks Ego Death and the fan-favorite Piss Punk. A little less reflection on the past and a little more anger at the future.

Even though their third release, Burnout, retained the whimsy, the fiercer side of things kept creeping in. Tales of betrayal and teen drama were also being matched by a hardness reflective of our fractured society.

With their 4th record, HELLHOUND, the gloves have come completely off. There’s a wee trace of the jovial in the LP’s title track/interlude but the rest of the record is one shredder after another – deceit, revenge, frustration and vitriol are nailed incessantly into the tracks from start to finish. Produced by Martin Cooke (Death Cab For Cutie, Of Monsters And Men, Destroy Boys), the LP is a powerhouse that draws from vintage punk, classic metal and all in between. Anyone who’s crossed them is a target and asking to get cut. First single CREEP SMOOTHIE pulls no punches in calling out disrespect from the worst kinds of men and would-be’s alike. IDLE HANDS channels the rage inward. Overall the record is a culmination of influences and experience and an explosive chapter in VIAL’s life.

Behind everything they do is an underlying dedication to causes ranging from gender equality and abortion rights to supporting indigenous arts and refugee aid. The band constantly helps on a material level, funneling income directly to these groups. Many artists pay lip service to making the world a better place. VIAL put their money where their mouths are and their steel toes where the sun don’t shine.

U.S. based, internationally touring singer-songwriter Shayfer James weaves lyrically eloquent dark-pop songs from gothic landscapes that evoke the narcotic mysticism of a Lewis Carroll-inspired three-ring circus. His piano driven music swaggers from decadent danceable anthems to soft-hearted ballads with jazz lilted satire and whiskey-dirt grit.

In addition to touring and recorded music, Shayfer is a theater maker and film composer. His original songs and film scores have been featured in films with premieres at The Tribeca Film Festival, SXSW and The North Bend Film Festival. “The Ninth Hour,” a musical he co-wrote and performs in with Kate Douglas, premiered at The Met Cloisters, NYC in 2019 with a complete soundtrack album due out in summer 2023. Shayfer has also composed for various theater and performance art projects presented in New York City, New Jersey, Iceland, London and Hong Kong.

Shayfer has independently released two full length albums, five EPs and various singles. His next full length album, “Shipwreck” is due out in March 2023, with its first single “Devils & Rebels” available now and several more singles coming in advance of the album release. Shayfer will be supporting the releases with UK, EU and U.S. tours beginning in February 2023.

Shayfer James performs his Counterfeit Arcade and Summoning albums in full, with songs from both albums woven together into a single continuous live set. Celebrating 15 years of Counterfeit Arcade and 1 year of Summoning, the show includes songs never previously performed live and others that may not be played again for quite some time.

Chicago-born rapper Taylor Bennett worked hard to step out of the shadow of his older brother, Chance the Rapper. Growing up in the same household enabled the two brothers to practice their craft together; as a result, their styles and approaches remain fairly similar, with the exception of Taylor’s tendency to rap at a much quicker pace during his verses. Taylor emerged as an artist in his own right upon the release of his debut mixtape, 2013’s The Taylor Bennett Show, which was recorded while he was still attending high school. Although he was adamant about prioritizing his studies over his music, a number of tracks were leaked in 2014; instead of chalking it up as a loss, Taylor chose to release the tracks officially as a mixtape titled Freshman Year: First Semester. As his high school years drew to a close, Taylor found the time to release his second mixtape, 2014’s Mainstream Music, around the same time that he started to play live shows — including two sold-out events at Reggies, a famous venue in Chicago. In 2015 Taylor released his debut studio album, Broad Shoulders, which, notably, was 100-percent sample-free; the album also marked the first official collaboration between Taylor and Chance, with a number of guest artists including King Louie, Donnie Trumpet, and Joey Purp. Taylor’s third mixtape, Restoration of an American Idol, arrived in 2017. Later that year, Bennett compiled a set of previously unreleased and unmixed tracks and released them under the title Throw Aways: Unmixed. The bouncy single “Minimum Wage” appeared in early 2018 followed a few months later by the EP Be Yourself. Adam Kelly, better known by his stage name Adamn Killa, is an American rapper from Chicago, Illinois. Adamn initially started making music at the age of 14, joining the group 197 O$G with fellow Chicago-rapper LUCKI.

Adamn would start to build a real name for himself throughout 2016 when he started working with Swedish rappers Yung Lean, Bladee and Thaiboy Digital, creating popular songs like “Psycho,” “Ten” and “Cashin.” He would later drop out from college to join them throughout Europe for the Warlord Tour, leaving his baseball career behind and pursuing music full time from there on.

He would briefly step away from music in 2021 as it was no longer a reliable source of income. He focused his efforts into other ventures, such as investing into various crypto currencies and doing Uber/Uber Eats. He eventually returned to music as he wasn’t as happy while not creating.

Adamn started to see a resurgence in popularity throughout 2024 with songs like “Prada at 13,” “Torta Pounder” and “A.D.H.D Rant 1.” He would capitalize off this buzz by releasing his February 2025 mixtape A.D.H.D Rant Vol. 1.

On June 20, 2025, Adamn released his highly anticipated mixtape, Generation Run.

Los Angeles trio MUNA’s crystal-clear pop music delivers themes of fun and excitement from queer perspectives. They first came to wide attention in 2016 with their infectious single “I Know a Place.” The song peaked in the Top 40 of the Billboard Adult Pop Music chart, paving the way for albums like 2017’s About U, 2019’s Saves the World, and 2022’s Billboard 200-charting MUNA, their first release on Phoebe Bridgers’ Saddest Factory label. After collaborations with the likes of Holly Humberstone, Maren Morris, and Empress Of, their fourth long-player, the self-produced Dancing on the Wall, followed on the label in 2026.

The Loudspeaker EP
Formed in 2013 by vocalist Katie Gavin, guitarist/vocalist Naomi McPherson, and guitarist/vocalist Josette Maskin, who met while studying at the University of Southern California, MUNA quickly put together their debut EP, More Perfect. Released in mid-2014, the set brought together their love of ’80s new wave and synth pop, R&B, and modern left-field pop. The trio spent the next year writing new material — signing to RCA in the U.S. and National Anthem in the U.K. in the process — before releasing their sophomore EP, Loudspeaker, in May 2016. By the end of the year, MUNA had recorded their debut album, with the resulting About U appearing in early 2017. Co-produced by the band and Dan Grech-Marguerat (Radiohead, Lana Del Rey), and featuring the single “I Know a Place,” it reached the Top Ten of Billboard’s Heatseekers Albums chart. A follow-up non-album single, “In My Way,” arrived in September of that year, just as they joined Harry Styles on tour. In 2019, the group returned with a more heavy-hearted sophomore full-length, Saves the World, matching the Heatseekers chart success of its predecessor.

After signing with Phoebe Bridgers’ Saddest Factory imprint in 2021, MUNA issued the single “Silk Chiffon,” which featured a guest appearance from Bridgers and appeared on the group’s third long-player, the eponymously titled MUNA, in 2022. The album charted on the Billboard 200 and reached 21 on the Top Alternative Albums chart. That same year, they also released the EP Live at Electric Lady, which featured a cover of Taylor Swift’s song “August.” The non-album track “One That Got Away” arrived in early 2023, as did the Holly Humberstone collaboration “Into Your Room.” In 2024, MUNA appeared on the Empress Of single “What’s Love,” and the next year brought yet another collaborative track, “Cry in the Car” from Maren Morris’ album Dreamsicle. Los Retros is a bedroom pop band formed by Mauri Tapia, a first-generation Mexican-American from Oxnard, California. Inspired by Latin American pop, soft rock, and funk, his songs are laid-back, sweetly nostalgic, and quirky enough to appeal to the left-field pop side of Los Angeles-based Stones Throw Records, who signed Los Retros in 2019 and issued the EPs Retrospect and Everlasting.

Mauri Tapia has been playing music since he was a child, first picking up a guitar at the age of eight, then learning several other instruments during an after-school program. At first, he started making hip-hop demos and video game-inspired music, but he gradually started writing songs influenced by the Latin American rock and pop groups his parents listened to, as well as vintage funk and jazz artists. He formed a band called Retrospect, but it ended up becoming a solo project as Tapia was recording nearly everything by himself, using a second-hand mixer in his bedroom, which also happened to be his family’s living room. He began uploading songs in 2017 and assembled a band for live performances, playing shows throughout Southern California. The group built up a local following, eventually attracting the attention of Peanut Butter Wolf, who signed them to Stones Throw when Tapia was 19 years old. Going by the name Los Retros, citing Chilean band Los Ángeles Negros as a primary influence, Tapia released the single “Someone to Spend Time With” in February of 2019, and opened for Cuco during his west coast tour that year. Tapia married his friend Lupe, who plays keyboards in the band, and several songs on the 2019 EP Retrospect were inspired by her. Drake Milligan is an actor and singer with a twang and swagger rooted in traditional country music. A former Elvis Presley impersonator who then played the King on a CMT miniseries, Milligan released his debut album, Dallas/Fort Worth in 2022. He continued releasing singles over the next year including “I Got a Problem,” which made Billboard’s Hot Digital Songs chart.

The native Texan, who cites Merle Haggard and Elvis Presley as early influences, first caught the public’s eye in 2017 after starring as Elvis in the CMT miniseries Sun Records. He relocated to Nashville in 2018 after failing to advance on season 16 of American Idol, and eventually inked a deal with BBR Music Group. He issued an eponymous debut EP in 2021, which included the hits “Sounds Like Something I’d Do” and “Over Drinkin’ Under Thinkin’,” and in 2022, he joined the Season 17 of America’s Got Talent, where he finished in third place. Later that year, he released his first full-length effort, Dallas/Fort Worth, on Stony Creek Records. The 14-track double album included all five songs from his debut EP along with new cuts like “Don’t Look Down” and “Goin’ Down Swingin’,” the latter of which featured a guest spot from country legend Vince Gill. Cat Clyde is a Canadian singer/songwriter and multi-instrumentalist. Her sound is drenched in roots influences: blues, soul, folk, jump, jazz, and even swing. Her voice is a crystalline contralto that enunciates each syllable, imbuing her songs with resonance and meaning. Ivory Castanets, her 2017 debut, drew press notice for its contrast between youthful singing and timeless song forms. 2019’s Hunter’s Trance, for Cinematic Music Group, found Clyde backed by an aggressive garage band in a collection split between ballads and barroom rockers. 2020’s Blue Blue Blue was a raw, barebones collaboration with her partner, singer/songwriter Jeremie Albino, offering covers of classic roots material, and 2023’s Down Rounder was recorded in six days with producer Tony Berg and a cast of handpicked players in a Los Angeles studio. It took Clyde more than two years to move from the song sketches to the finished masters. In 2026 she returned with Mud Blood Bone; it was co-produced with Drew Vandenberg.

Clyde was born in southwestern Ontario. Her family settled in Perth County near Stratford when she was ten. Growing up in a rural environment offered certain advantages. She and her dog spent hours walking in the woods, taking in nature and its processes. One presumes that the influence of the natural world in her songs is drawn from that youthful experience.

At 14, she was given a guitar by her family, who owned a music shop. Clyde was aided in the basics by a neighbor boy who played. She learned quickly, and in a short time was teaching guitar to other kids at her parents’ shop. The store also fostered her first band, the Big Wheels, composed of the store’s music tutors. The group only played a few gigs at fairs and festivals, but it provided Clyde with an invaluable experience — a natural introvert, working in front of an audience brought her out of her shell. She also began writing songs in earnest.

She moved to Stratford and busked on the streets during the warmer months, and enrolled in college where she studied the music business — recording, engineering, and record production. She met a number of people through school friends and classmates. Someone put her in touch with surf punk outfit the Shibats and she joined as a vocalist. It was during her tenure with the band that she met future partner, singer/songwriter Strummer Jasson.

Still in school, Clyde, with the help of bassist Steve Clark, and brothers Andrew Fockler (drums) and Patrick Fockler (co-producer, guitarist, keyboardist) cut Ivory Castanets, her debut album. Its balanced acoustic and electric instrumentation in carefully written songs won airplay across Canada, positive album reviews in the press and on the internet, and a record deal with Cinematic Music Group.

Clyde and Jasson moved to Quebec and recorded her sophomore full-length and label debut, Hunter’s Trance. The nine-song set was released in 2019. Performed by an uncredited band, it nonetheless carefully balanced acoustic and rootsy electric instrumentation. The set’s bookend tracks, the swaggering “Bird Bone” and the full-band version of “The River” won notice in Europe as well as Canada. Clyde took the group on the road, performing well-attended dates on both sides of the border and achieving considerable streaming success in the U.S.

That ground to a halt when the COVID-19 pandemic started in March 2020. Just before she and Jasson returned to their Quebec apartment, she cut Good Bones, an acoustic collection whose songs were drawn from her first two band-backed albums. Released to streaming, it resonated with fans and won positive notice from critics who’d not encountered Clyde before. The couple set up a home studio and planned to sit out the pandemic working at home. That didn’t happen. Both became consistently ill and not with COVID. With an environmental test kit, Clyde discovered aggressive mold spores present and spreading. They were relocated to another apartment owned by the landlord. After investigating, the landlord discovered the source: an abandoned nest with rotting eggs in the ceiling above their bed. They never returned to that apartment, opting to move to Stratford instead. There they recorded Blue Blue Blue, with their homespun studio setup. It offered covers of country and blues songs from Willie McTell’s “You Were Born to Die” and Bob Dylan’s “Girl from the North Country” to Elizabeth Cotten’s “Freight Train” and A.P. Carter’s “Hello Stranger.”

During the pandemic, Clyde had an entire album ready but no way to record the songs. She began reaching out to producers, players, studios. It took a solid year of frustrating encounters before she reached out to famed producer Tony Berg (Ted Hawkins, Aimee Mann, Andrew Bird). He’d just completed a project with Phoebe Bridgers.

Clyde and Berg workshopped her songs over Zoom, stripping them to their roots and rebuilding them from the ground up. When his schedule opened up, Clyde flew to Los Angeles. Berg booked a band at the famed Sound City Studios. It took only six days to record Down Rounder. Released in February 2023, its woolly yet hooky Americana single, “Everywhere I Go,” won notice and led the album to the streaming charts.

Following a pair of tours, Clyde began work on her fourth full-length album with co-producer Drew Vandenberg (Toro Y Moi, Faye Webster, S.G. Goodman). Ahead of and throughout her writing sessions for the album titled Mud Blood Bone, Clyde looked to her indigenous Métis roots and her deep reverence for nature in efforts to redefine her relationship with love in her life. Lucinda Williams – World’s Gone Wrong “My dad, as a poet, always told me to never censor myself – that’s one of his cardinal rules of creative writing,” says multiple-Grammy-winning singer-songwriter Lucinda Williams. “That became my motto which I’ve stuck by all these years.” Miller Williams’ advice clearly is born out on Lucinda’s powerful eighteenth studio album, the provocative World’s Gone Wrong. “I felt a sense of urgency in making this record,” she adds. Filled with gut-wrenching topical songs, the album’s ten tracks were written and recorded in a blast of collaborative creativity as Lucinda and her cowriters – primarily husband/manager/co-producer Tom Overby and guitarist Doug Pettibone – grappled with events transpiring during the spring of 2025. A whole other album had been in the works, but that “urgency” to address our current cataclysmic situation motivated Lucinda and company to cut World’s Gone Wrong in direct response. “Music is a powerful weapon,” she points out. “I want this record to make people aware, wake them up. I like to push people’s buttons.” Lucinda, Pettibone, and Overby returned to co-producer Ray Kennedy’s Room & Board Studio in Nashville to cut the tracks with her newly configured band: guitarist Marc Ford (Black Crowes), drummer Brady Blade (Emmylou Harris), and her longtime bassist David Sutton. On the gripping title track, they’re joined by guest vocalist Brittney Spencer and keyboardist Rob Burger on Hammond B3. Its title inspired by the 1931 Mississippi Sheiks song (repurposed by Dylan in ‘93), the lyrics give voice to the lives of baffled everyday Americans: a nurse and a car salesman “workin’ long hours” and “lookin’ for comfort in a song.” Throughout the album, Lucinda is at her most direct, not mincing words via those distinctive, one-of-a-kind vocals. The ominous “Something’s Gotta Give” (also featuring Spencer) is punctuated by Pettibone’s and Ford’s fiery two-guitar interplay – a clarion call that “evil has come to play/you can feel it everywhere.” On the country-blues “Lowlife,” Mickey Raphael’s dulcet harmonica livens up this ode to a juke joint where weary souls find relief. Lucinda and her band played the song onstage with Raphael during Willie Nelson’s Outlaw Fest, and “audiences really responded to that one,” Lucinda recalls. After their August 2 tour stop in Saratoga Springs, they reconvened with Raphael at New York’s iconic Electric Lady Studio to cut the vibrant track. The blues-rockin’ “Sing Unburied Sing,” inspired by Jesmyn Ward’s 2017 award-winning novel of a haunted South, offers soaring background vocals by Maureen Murphy and Siobhan Kennedy. A gutbucket blues, “Black Tears” features Reese Wynan’s Hammond B3 accenting a down-and-dirty dual guitar attack. Accompanied by a serpentine slide guitar, “Punchline” eviscerates “false gods and deceivers/playin’ on our deepest fears” and “people being taught to hate.” Personifying the voice of liberty itself, in “Freedom Speaks” Lucinda reminds us that “apathy will blind you,” urging us to “stand up and fight.” The punk-blues “How Much Did You Get for Your Soul?” is a sequel of sorts to the piercing “Man Without a Soul,” from Lucinda’s critically acclaimed Good Souls Better Angels (2020). Backed by Murphy’s churchy vocals, Lucinda paraphrases biblical scripture, delivering a bit of fire-and-brimstone that’s sorely needed. The sole cover song on the album, Bob Marley’s formidable “So Much Trouble in the World,” features the inimitable vocals of national treasure Mavis Staples. “It’s the first time I’ve cut a Bob Marley song,” says Lucinda, who’s released a series of albums of songs by the Fab Four (2024’s Lucinda Williams Sings the Beatles from Abbey Road) and Tom Petty (2020’s Runnin’ Down the Dream), as well as blues and country classics. “I was self-conscious about it at first, because the song is so great and it had already been recorded the best it’s ever going to be. But then when Mavis Staples came in to do vocals….” Together, they nailed it. The hymnlike “We’ve Come Too Far to Turn Around,” featuring Norah Jones on piano and harmonies, is a heartbreaking closer, yet there is an aspirational quality too. “Norah’s voice lifts the song up,” says Lucinda. “Her part is subtle, kind of quiet, but it adds a whole level of something to the song.” That “something” permeates the entirety of World’s Gone Wrong, giving courage to listeners who are – as the title track says – “lookin’ for comfort in a song.” And that’s what Lucinda fans have come to depend on over the past 45 years – since her sophomore effort comprised of originals, Happy Woman Blues, in 1980. New Orleans rapper and label owner Curren$y is known for his witty rhymes and extravagant “Jet Life” aesthetic. He started out as a member of No Limit Records signees 504 Boyz in the early 2000s and made it through struggles with various labels before starting his own. Over the years, his smart lyrics would catch the attention of fans and other artists alike, and along with prolific output in the form of solo mixtapes, Curren$y had high-profile collaborations with Lil Wayne, Wiz Khalifa, Freddie Gibbs, and many others. His solo discography is impressive on its own, with highlights like his 2012 Warner Bros.-released, Top Ten-charting The Stoned Immaculate and 2015’s Canal Street Confidential, but Curren$y also stays highly active with ongoing collaborations and guest appearances on other artists’ tracks. In addition to strong collaborations with Harry Fraud and Wiz Khalifa, Curren$y’s frequent work with the Alchemist resulted in critical favorites like 2022’s Continuance. Releases with Jermaine Dupri (For Motivational Use Only, Vol. 1) and Fraud (Vices) appeared in 2023, and the Monsta Beatz collaboration Radioactive was issued in 2024. Another release with Fraud, Never Catch Us, was released in 2025.

Born Shante Anthony Franklin and raised in New Orleans, Curren$y was originally signed to Master P’s No Limit label, but in 2005 he made the move to Lil Wayne and Birdman’s Cash Money imprint, Young Money. He appeared on Wayne’s Tha Carter II album that same year, and in 2006, Curren$y’s “Where da Cash At” single was released — both on its own and as part of Wayne’s Dedication 2 mixtape — but a promised album never materialized. Not one to sit idle, Curren$y started Fly Society with professional skateboarder Terry Kennedy in 2007. The brand was originally planned as a line of apparel, but it evolved into a music label as the rapper’s relationship with Young Money soured. After leaving the label at the end of 2007 with Fly Society in tow, Curren$y released a series of underground mixtapes, including 2009’s How Fly, a much buzzed-about collaboration with then-newcomer Wiz Khalifa.

Other mixtapes appeared before Curren$y hooked up with the digital-only Amalgam Digital for the early 2009 release This Ain’t No Mixtape. The relationship continued that October with the download-only Jet Files, but in early 2010 he joined the Def Jam family via Damon Dash’s DD172 imprint. With the label’s in-house producer Ski Beatz handling most of the production, Curren$y’s Pilot Talk album appeared in July of that year, with Pilot Talk II landing in 2010. The stopgap release Weekend at Burnie’s followed in 2011, with the retro backing tracks coming from producer Monsta Beatz. Beatz, along with the J.U.S.T.I.C.E. League and Pharrell, was back for the rapper’s 2012 street release, The Stoned Immaculate. In 2015, the album Pilot Talk III was issued on a $100 USB key made available from the rapper’s Jet Life website, while the EP Even More Saturday Night Car Tunes landed through more traditional distribution channels. That same year, the “Bottom of the Bottle” single featuring Lil Wayne and August Alsina appeared right before the release of Canal Street Confidential, an album that the MC road-tested on tour before deciding on the final track list.

In 2016, the rapper issued over a dozen mixtapes, including collaborative efforts with the Alchemist (The Carrollton Heist), Purps (Bourbon Street Secrets), and Sledgren (Revolver). The self-releases continued into 2017, with the Jetlanta EP and The Fo20 Massacre, followed by The Marina (Jet Life) EP in 2018. February 2019 saw the release of 2009, a collaboration with Wiz Khalifa that revisited the creative chemistry of the duo’s 2009 How Fly project. Not long after, Curren$y issued two more collaborative efforts, working with Statik Selektah on Gran Turismo and with Berner on Pheno Grigio. He also found time for the solo mixtape Hot August Nights. In 2020, he collaborated with Fuse for the album Spring Clean and Harry Fraud for The OutRunners and The Director’s Cut, with Collection Agency arriving in early 2021. Work with the Alchemist resumed on Continuance, which was released in February of 2022. The album picked up where their 2011 collaboration Covert Coup left off, and featured guest appearances from Boldy James, Larry June, Babyface Ray, Styles P, and others. This was followed by Spring Clean 2 (with Fuse), two 8 Ball Jacket EPs, and The Drive In Theatre, Pt. 2.

2023 saw the release of For Motivational Use Only, Vol. 1, a collaboration with Jermaine Dupri which featured appearances from 2 Chainz and T.I. Another effort, this time with Harry Fraud, Vices included guests like Benny the Butcher, Tommy Wright III, and Rome Streetz. He then issued Season Opener and Highway 600 (with Trauma Tone). Radioactive, a collaboration with Monsta Beatz, appeared in 2024. He also issued The Tonite Show the Sequel and The Encore, both with D.J.Fresh. Los Angeles trio MUNA’s crystal-clear pop music delivers themes of fun and excitement from queer perspectives. They first came to wide attention in 2016 with their infectious single “I Know a Place.” The song peaked in the Top 40 of the Billboard Adult Pop Music chart, paving the way for albums like 2017’s About U, 2019’s Saves the World, and 2022’s Billboard 200-charting MUNA, their first release on Phoebe Bridgers’ Saddest Factory label. After collaborations with the likes of Holly Humberstone, Maren Morris, and Empress Of, their fourth long-player, the self-produced Dancing on the Wall, followed on the label in 2026.

The Loudspeaker EP
Formed in 2013 by vocalist Katie Gavin, guitarist/vocalist Naomi McPherson, and guitarist/vocalist Josette Maskin, who met while studying at the University of Southern California, MUNA quickly put together their debut EP, More Perfect. Released in mid-2014, the set brought together their love of ’80s new wave and synth pop, R&B, and modern left-field pop. The trio spent the next year writing new material — signing to RCA in the U.S. and National Anthem in the U.K. in the process — before releasing their sophomore EP, Loudspeaker, in May 2016. By the end of the year, MUNA had recorded their debut album, with the resulting About U appearing in early 2017. Co-produced by the band and Dan Grech-Marguerat (Radiohead, Lana Del Rey), and featuring the single “I Know a Place,” it reached the Top Ten of Billboard’s Heatseekers Albums chart. A follow-up non-album single, “In My Way,” arrived in September of that year, just as they joined Harry Styles on tour. In 2019, the group returned with a more heavy-hearted sophomore full-length, Saves the World, matching the Heatseekers chart success of its predecessor.

After signing with Phoebe Bridgers’ Saddest Factory imprint in 2021, MUNA issued the single “Silk Chiffon,” which featured a guest appearance from Bridgers and appeared on the group’s third long-player, the eponymously titled MUNA, in 2022. The album charted on the Billboard 200 and reached 21 on the Top Alternative Albums chart. That same year, they also released the EP Live at Electric Lady, which featured a cover of Taylor Swift’s song “August.” The non-album track “One That Got Away” arrived in early 2023, as did the Holly Humberstone collaboration “Into Your Room.” In 2024, MUNA appeared on the Empress Of single “What’s Love,” and the next year brought yet another collaborative track, “Cry in the Car” from Maren Morris’ album Dreamsicle. Despite an appropriately twangy stage name, Stella Lefty would seem like an unlikely presence on the country charts – at least, before going viral in 2026 with her surprise hit “Boston.” Born Stella Lefkofsky in Winnetka, Illinois in 2003 – her father Eric co-founded Groupon – Lefty released a handful of tracks the year before (including the Tragic, Really EP) that flirted with more traditional, organic pop influences. But the singer has cited inspiration from Taylor Swift, Miley Cyrus and even Keith Whitley, which made the acoustic guitar-and-banjo-driven mini-breakthrough “Thinking ‘Bout You” a fair evolution toward something different. After releasing another catchy country-pop tune, “Slow Dancin'” (and a moody outlier, “The Kill,” from the soundtrack to Scream 7), it was the mere chorus of “Boston,” inspired by a romance blossoming between trips to Nashville to work with fellow songwriters and interpolating Noah Kahan’s Top 10 “Stick Season,” that inspired a frenzy on social media. Canadian artist Elijah Woods writes yearning, atmospheric pop songs rooted in organic elements like acoustic guitar and piano, but with a strong electronic component. As part of a duo with fellow singer/songwriter Jamie Fine, he notched a number one hit in 2018 with the electropop single “Ain’t Easy.” The two released an EP and several other singles together before parting ways in 2020. Woods launched a solo career a year later, hitting the Top Ten with “Lights” from his debut EP, Look What I Made. Over the next several years he remained prolific, releasing popular singles like “24/7,365” as well as EPs like 2023’s Bright Orange Everglow and 2024’s Hey There Elijah. He made his full-length debut in 2024 with Can We Talk?

Woods was born and raised in Perth, Ontario, where he learned guitar from his father. He began writing and producing music at a young age and first met future musical partner Jamie Fine while studying music at Algonquin College in Ottawa. They began making music as a duo and in 2018 came in first place on the second episode of the Canadian reality competition The Launch. As a direct result, Big Machine Records released their version of Camila Cabello and Ryan Tedder’s song “Ain’t Easy.” The pulsing electronic pop song was a hit, reaching multiple charts and topping Canada’s AC Billboard chart. Elijah Woods x Jamie Fine notched a few more hits including “Better Off” and “You” from their lone EP 8:47, before splitting in 2020.

Woods used this opportunity to return to a more organic style than the electronic pop the duo had been known for. Consisting of little more than an electric guitar and percussion, his debut single “Lights” was a hit in 2021 and he followed it up with an interesting stylistic mix that ranged from bright synth-pop to acoustic balladry. Working independently, Woods released his first EP, Look What I Made, in October 2021. Over the next year, he delivered singles at a rapid clip, pulling in big streaming numbers with songs like 2022’s “Fingers Crossed” and “Everything Everywhere Always.” That latter song appeared on his second EP, What if It Was Great?, in June 2023. The prolific artist wasted little time, delivering his third EP, Bright Orange Everglow, that August which contained the streaming hit “24/7,365.” Woods’ onrush of output continued in 2024 with highlights like “Losing a Friend” and two more EPs, Hey There Elijah and Elijah Wood!. Lucinda Williams – World’s Gone Wrong “My dad, as a poet, always told me to never censor myself – that’s one of his cardinal rules of creative writing,” says multiple-Grammy-winning singer-songwriter Lucinda Williams. “That became my motto which I’ve stuck by all these years.” Miller Williams’ advice clearly is born out on Lucinda’s powerful eighteenth studio album, the provocative World’s Gone Wrong. “I felt a sense of urgency in making this record,” she adds. Filled with gut-wrenching topical songs, the album’s ten tracks were written and recorded in a blast of collaborative creativity as Lucinda and her cowriters – primarily husband/manager/co-producer Tom Overby and guitarist Doug Pettibone – grappled with events transpiring during the spring of 2025. A whole other album had been in the works, but that “urgency” to address our current cataclysmic situation motivated Lucinda and company to cut World’s Gone Wrong in direct response. “Music is a powerful weapon,” she points out. “I want this record to make people aware, wake them up. I like to push people’s buttons.” Lucinda, Pettibone, and Overby returned to co-producer Ray Kennedy’s Room & Board Studio in Nashville to cut the tracks with her newly configured band: guitarist Marc Ford (Black Crowes), drummer Brady Blade (Emmylou Harris), and her longtime bassist David Sutton. On the gripping title track, they’re joined by guest vocalist Brittney Spencer and keyboardist Rob Burger on Hammond B3. Its title inspired by the 1931 Mississippi Sheiks song (repurposed by Dylan in ‘93), the lyrics give voice to the lives of baffled everyday Americans: a nurse and a car salesman “workin’ long hours” and “lookin’ for comfort in a song.” Throughout the album, Lucinda is at her most direct, not mincing words via those distinctive, one-of-a-kind vocals. The ominous “Something’s Gotta Give” (also featuring Spencer) is punctuated by Pettibone’s and Ford’s fiery two-guitar interplay – a clarion call that “evil has come to play/you can feel it everywhere.” On the country-blues “Lowlife,” Mickey Raphael’s dulcet harmonica livens up this ode to a juke joint where weary souls find relief. Lucinda and her band played the song onstage with Raphael during Willie Nelson’s Outlaw Fest, and “audiences really responded to that one,” Lucinda recalls. After their August 2 tour stop in Saratoga Springs, they reconvened with Raphael at New York’s iconic Electric Lady Studio to cut the vibrant track. The blues-rockin’ “Sing Unburied Sing,” inspired by Jesmyn Ward’s 2017 award-winning novel of a haunted South, offers soaring background vocals by Maureen Murphy and Siobhan Kennedy. A gutbucket blues, “Black Tears” features Reese Wynan’s Hammond B3 accenting a down-and-dirty dual guitar attack. Accompanied by a serpentine slide guitar, “Punchline” eviscerates “false gods and deceivers/playin’ on our deepest fears” and “people being taught to hate.” Personifying the voice of liberty itself, in “Freedom Speaks” Lucinda reminds us that “apathy will blind you,” urging us to “stand up and fight.” The punk-blues “How Much Did You Get for Your Soul?” is a sequel of sorts to the piercing “Man Without a Soul,” from Lucinda’s critically acclaimed Good Souls Better Angels (2020). Backed by Murphy’s churchy vocals, Lucinda paraphrases biblical scripture, delivering a bit of fire-and-brimstone that’s sorely needed. With a youthful voice that moves quickly between delicate, jazzy, and assertively soulful, Ambar Lucid is a singer, songwriter, and producer with a seductively off-center sound. Combining folk-styled fingerpicking, atmospheric electric guitar, dreamy electronics, and occasional horns and beats, her full-length debut, Dreaming Lucid, saw release in 2018. The more sonically muscular Garden of Lucid followed in 2020, and she incorporated a stronger Latin and R&B flair on the next year’s Get Lost in the Music EP. Lucid continued to explore a dreamy mélange of stylistic influences on singles such as 2024’s intimate “Truth Is So Loud.”

Raised partly in the Dominican Republic and mostly in the New York City suburb of Little Ferry, New Jersey, Ambar Cruz mixed Spanish and English lyrics from her earliest shared songs under the alias Ambar Lucid, including the 2017 viral acoustic track “A Letter to My Younger Self.” That song and others were collected on the album Dreaming Lucid in early 2018. She returned in mid-2018 with the EP Mi Historia before her song “Listen” was featured alongside tracks by Jaden Smith, Clairo, Princess Nokia, and others on the soundtrack to the film Skate Kitchen, released later the same year. By that time, she’d begun playing shows in and around N.Y.C. with a backing band. A pair of singles arrived in 2019, followed in early 2020 by Lucid’s second album, Garden of Lucid.

Although that record experimented further with genre, elements of Latin music and bedroom rap came into sharper focus on the five-track Get Lost in the Music EP in mid-2021. Jersey-born R&B singer, songwriter, producer, and multi-instrumentalist (drums, guitar & piano) Tone Stith released his debut project “Can We Talk” in 2017, which garnered rave reviews from the likes of Complex, Billboard and more and eventually led to Tone’s signing with RCA Records.

Stith’s follow up EP in 2018, Good Company, included features from Swae Lee and Quavo and production from Stith, Bongo By The Way (Ty Dolla $ign, 50 Cent), The Audibles (Justin Bieber, Chris Brown), Marcos “Kosine” Palacios (Ella Mai, Christina Aguilera) and THE PRBLM SLVRS. As a songwriter, Tone has penned numerous chart-topping hits, writing and producing on Chris Brown’s “Liquor” and “Make Love” and co-writing “Undecided.” Tone released his project FWM and performed the title track at the 2021 BET Awards. On the heels of all of this success and in anticipation for what’s next, Tone is ready to take his place as an R&B mainstay.

In this next chapter, Stith’s new P.O.V. is less reliant on the ease of what is expected but on the poetic uncertainty of what can become of what he’s becoming. Jersey-born R&B singer, songwriter, producer, and multi-instrumentalist (drums, guitar & piano) Tone Stith released his debut project “Can We Talk” in 2017, which garnered rave reviews from the likes of Complex, Billboard and more and eventually led to Tone’s signing with RCA Records.

Stith’s follow up EP in 2018, Good Company, included features from Swae Lee and Quavo and production from Stith, Bongo By The Way (Ty Dolla $ign, 50 Cent), The Audibles (Justin Bieber, Chris Brown), Marcos “Kosine” Palacios (Ella Mai, Christina Aguilera) and THE PRBLM SLVRS. As a songwriter, Tone has penned numerous chart-topping hits, writing and producing on Chris Brown’s “Liquor” and “Make Love” and co-writing “Undecided.” Tone released his project FWM and performed the title track at the 2021 BET Awards. On the heels of all of this success and in anticipation for what’s next, Tone is ready to take his place as an R&B mainstay.

In this next chapter, Stith’s new P.O.V. is less reliant on the ease of what is expected but on the poetic uncertainty of what can become of what he’s becoming. Led by enigmatic Baltimore singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist Sam Ray, Teen Suicide makes emo-charged noise punk. After a prolific run of ambitious and unpredictable releases earned them plenty of attention in the front half of the 2010s, the group temporarily disbanded, then re-formed for 2016’s eclectic It’s the Big Joyous Celebration, Let’s Stir the Honeypot. Ray then spun the project out under another name, American Pleasure Club, and continued working until a health scare forced him to hit pause on his career. Reviving the Teen Suicide moniker, he returned in 2022 with the wild and existentially driven Honeybee Table at the Butterfly Feast and the potent Nude Descending Staircase Headless appearing in 2026.

Teen Suicide was initially built around the core duo of Ray and drummer Eric Livingston. Formed in 2009, the pair issued a compilation of early demos titled Bad Vibes in 2011, followed by a trio of EPs (DC Snuff Film, Goblin Problems, and Hymns) and their debut full-length (I Will Be My Own Hell Because There Is a Devil Inside My Body) on Run for Cover Records in 2012. Bass player Alec Simke joined them shortly after the album’s release and appeared on their third EP, Waste Yrself. Teen Suicide disbanded in 2013, but the ensuing years saw the members sporadically re-forming for one-off shows and the occasional single. In 2015 they released remastered and expanded versions of their debut LP and the DC Snuff Film and Waste Yrself EPs (the latter two were issued as a single album). A new single appeared late that year titled “Sonic Youth,” though it was nebulously uncredited to Teen Suicide. A few months later, it was revealed that they had a new full-length ready for release. Sporting another lengthy title, the band’s ambitious and wide-ranging sophomore LP, It’s the Big Joyous Celebration, Let’s Stir the Honeypot, arrived in April 2016.

After announcing that they would be retiring the Teen Suicide name, Ray and the rhythm battery of drummer Sean Mercer and bassist Nick Hughes cycled through a handful of temporary names. Singles were released using monikers like the World’s Greatest and Dumpster before the band finally settled on the more permanent American Pleasure Club. With the addition of Sam Ray’s wife, vocalist Kitty Ray, American Pleasure Club released two albums, 2018’s A Whole Fucking Lifetime of This and 2019’s Fucking Bliss. Struggling with a mysterious respiratory illness and a subsequent near-death experience, Ray was temporarily sidelined over the next couple of years. The trauma of this period informed the tone of his next release. Musically and thematically ambitious, 2022’s Honeybee Table at the Butterfly Feast saw him revert to the Teen Suicide name and acted almost as a sort of sequel to the group’s 2016 LP. The band began touring regularly again and, in 2026, unveiled the assured Nude Descending Staircase Headless, marking a significant leap in fidelity and a heftier sonic palette. – Biography by James Christopher Monger

Guided by the succinct, sweet, and self-conscious tendencies of singer/songwriter Greta Kline, Frankie Cosmos started as a prolific home-based solo project in the early 2010s before evolving into a fulll-fledged indie pop group. As a young teen in the late 2000s, she tapped into the quirky vibes of New York’s SideWalk Cafe anti-folk scene, which had given birth to the Moldy Peaches early in the decade, as well as the D.I.Y. ethos of K Records. Her songs appeared mostly online in various albums, sometimes on a monthly basis. Growing in popularity and influence, Frankie Cosmos made her studio and label debut with Zentropy in 2014. Two years later, Next Thing was her first Top 40 independent album. Though Kline had been recording with a backing band since Zentropy, the project’s first official outing as a quartet was 2018’s Vessel, Frankie Cosmos’ Sub Pop debut. Their darker third Sub Pop outing, 2022’s pandemic-penned Inner World Peace tweaked the project’s indie pop with touches of psychedelic and ’70s pop inspirations. The tender and more reflective Different Talking followed in 2025.

A native New Yorker, Kline is the daughter of actors Kevin Kline and Phoebe Cates. Having played piano and drums and settled on guitar by the seventh grade, she frequented local underground rock shows in her youth. After being introduced to a small community of encouraging artists at Purchase College in Westchester, she began writing and recording her own songs. Kline herself attended NYU, where she studied poetry. Though she began uploading songs under aliases including ingrid superstar, Little Bear, and the Ingrates as early as 2009, by 2012 Kline had dropped out of college to focus on music and was playing shows and recording under the name Frankie Cosmos.

Following dozens of home-recorded, self-released collections, Frankie Cosmos’ label debut, Zentropy, arrived on Double Double Whammy in 2014. It represented Kline’s first studio album, completed with the help of a full band. She soon signed with Bayonet Records, which issued the four-track Fit Me In EP a year later. The second Frankie Cosmos studio album was written as the songwriter transitioned into her twenties. Titled Next Thing, it saw release in 2016, also on Bayonet. The record spent a week at the number 13 spot on the Billboard Heatseekers Albums chart and was a Top 40 independent album.

Kline joined Warehouse members Alex Bailey and Doug Bleichner on side project Lexie in mid-2017, issuing the eight-track debut Record Time! Ava Luna’s Carlos Hernandez recorded and mixed the album. That same year, Frankie Cosmos officially became a four-piece and signed with Sub Pop Records.

Featuring Kline with Lauren Martin on keys, David Maine (aka Main) on bass, and Luke Pyenson on drums, they made their Sub Pop debut with Vessel in 2018. It was a Top Ten Heatseekers album and reached number 21 on Billboard’s independent albums chart. Alex Bailey, who contributed guitar to the record, replaced Maine as the group’s bassist in time for subsequent touring. A digital-only collection consisting of piano songs recorded by a solo Kline and first issued as weekly singles, Frankie Cosmos’ Haunted Items followed in April 2019. Back with bandmates Martin, Pyenson, and Bailey, that September’s Close It Quietly was tracked with engineer/co-producer Gabe Wax.

The arrival of the COVID-19 pandemic took Frankie Cosmos off the road and led to uncertainty about even being able to continue. After nearly 500 days apart, they finally reconvened to go through around 100 songs Kline had written in the interim. They eventually recorded 15 of them with singer/songwriter Katie von Schleicher and engineer Nate Mendelsohn co-producing with the band at Figure 8 Recording in Brooklyn. The resulting Inner World Peace had a more downcast tone than its predecessors and reflected a slight shift in sound with a mix of psychedelic and prog rock as well as ’70s folk, ’70s pop, and the 2000s indie rock of Kline’s teens all coming into play. The next Frankie Cosmos album featured a tweaked lineup, with Martin and Pyenson leaving the group. Joining Kline was bassist Alex Bailey in their place were von Schleicher, now an official member, and former Palm drummer Hugo Stanley. Recorded in a house where they were all living together at the time, the tender and reflective Different Talking was the project’s fourth album for Sub Pop and first as a band to be produced without outside help. – Biography by Marcy Donelson

Superheaven has spent the last five years honing their grunge buzzing and desperate sound across four EP’s, showcasing and perfecting a talent for writing both jarringly heavy and delicately emotional songs. Combined with relentless touring across the U.S. and Europe since the band first formed in 2007, the stars aligned for Superheaven’s Run For Cover Records full length, Jar, an outstanding and highly-anticipated debut LP.

Engineer and producer Will Yip’s massive production knocks you on your ass from the very first drum hit and snarling guitar riff on album opener “Sponge.” The stadium-sound drums fill the record, plus pulsing bass and walls of buzzsaw guitars are all mixed with the size and clarity of major label grunge breakthrough records like Nirvana’s Nevermind and Smashing Pumpkins’ Siamese Dream.

Since the 2013 release of Jar, Superheaven has stayed true to the ways of their past, spending the majority of the past year and a half on the road. The band is about to embark on their first European headlining tour with Nai Harvest as support but before that, they’ll reunite with Basement on the UK emo-grunge band’s U.S. reunion tour. And later this year, Superheaven will head back in the studio with longtime friend and producer Will Yip to begin work on their SideOneDummy debut, due sometime spring 2015.
