Tony Award-winning musical Hamilton has long since cemented itself as a powerhouse production. Since its 2015 debut, the production inspired by Ron Chernow’s biography of the United States’ founding father with music, lyrics, and book by Lin-Manuel Miranda has played to audiences around the globe. But the piece’s Broadway roots remain the go-to spot to experience Hamilton for theatergoers.
Well, this fall one of the beloved musical’s original cast members is set to return. This fall Grammy and Emmy-winning actor and Tony-nominated thespian Christopher Jackson will make his long-awaited return to Hamilton housed at the Richard Rodgers Theatre. In a statement shared with Playbill, Jackson expressed his excitement.
“Returning to ‘Hamilton’ as George Washington is a deeply meaningful homecoming,” Jackson exclaimed. “This show changed my life, and it remains one of the great honors of my career to be part of telling this story. To step back into this room, with this company and this audience, is something I will never take for granted.”
Jackson’s tenure as Washington will begin on September 8, 2026, and run until January 3, 2027. The role is currently being performed by Isaiah Johnson (The Color Purple, The Merchant of Venice, Peter and the Starcatcher, Side Show, and Richard III).
Hamilton’s show dates are Tuesdays (7 p.m.), Wednesdays (7 p.m.), Thursdays (7 p.m.), Fridays (7 p.m.), Saturdays (1 p.m. & 7 p.m.), and Sundays (1 p.m. & 7 p.m.).
Hamilton is currently showing and is presented inside the Richard Rodgers Theatre. However, Christopher Jackson does not join the cast until September 8.
