Back in 2008, Ne-Yo ushered in the year of the gentleman. Well, Grammy Award-nominated rapper YG wants to up the ante.
On his forthcoming seventh studio album, The Gentlemen’s Club, YG is inviting goons, civilians, and everything in-between to pull up a chair for an introspective conversation.
Given the album’s title and the risqué promotional images, one could assume the album could be YG diving deeper into his adult nightlife offerings. However, that’s not quite the direction of The Gentlemen’s Club.
The forthcoming body of work’s lead single, “2004” with Buddy & The Gang, in which YG recounts being sexually assaulted as a child, paired with a March 2025 teaser video (viewable below and here), The Gentlemen’s Club is about men holding space for themselves as well as their brothers.
“Everybody wants to join the gentleman’s club, but it’s everybody who does not have what it takes: honor, code, morals, respect,” says the narrator. “Scandalousness is not accepted, but when it’s giving, we own your neck. More action. Talk less. Money. Power. Law. Success. Never speak on what you saw. Play chess. Family first. God and Jesus. Yes, I’m my brother’s keeper. Left the streets, that’s how they treat you. This time, I won’t mislead you. Welcome to the gentleman’s club.”

For those looking for YG party records, The Gentlemen’s Club has that. In fact, that’s what the single “Hollywood” was for. But given the messaging surrounding it, including YG’s sit-down with DJ Hed, The Gentlemen’s Club is an artistically elevated My Krazy Life (2014) and Still Brazy (2016). The suits are tailored, and the shoes are shined, but the message is raw and messy.
The Gentlemen’s Club marks YG’s official studio follow-up to 2022’s I Got Issues and succeeds his 2024 mixtape Just Re’d Up 3.
