The musical bridge between R&B singers from the United Kingdom and the United States has grown tremendously over the last decade. Now, it seems rappers want to forge the same international alliance.
On March 5, Music Business Worldwide revealed Idris Elba‘s 7Wallace and Nas‘ Mass Appeal record labels had struck a deal. As part of the companies’ strategic partnership, 7Wallace and Mass Appeal will jointly share musical releases, distribute releases across respective markets, and collaborate on original content.
According to the outlet, the original content is set to span the “intersection of music, film, media, and live experiences.”
In a statement, 7Wallace’s Head of Music, Rachel Prager, raved about the partnership.
“The synergy between 7Wallace and Mass Appeal is clear,” said Prager. “We have a shared respect for rap culture, for legacy, and for doing things with integrity—which makes them the right partner as we enter this new era.”
Prager continued, “Every release in this next phase is intentional; we will honor the foundation and longevity created by our UK rap pioneers, while also capturing the raw, grassroots energy of the scene. We’re investing in artists who shape culture.”
Neither company has revealed these upcoming projects. However, Slick Rick’s album, VICTORY, serves as a taste of what this joint venture could produce.
Mass Appeal’s CEO Peter Bittenbender reflected on the collaboration, saying, “Working with Idris and the 7Wallace team on Slick Rick’s ‘VICTORY’ was an amazing experience and a powerful example of what can happen when there’s true creative alignment.”
Bittenbender continued, “The collaboration reflected a shared commitment to honoring hip-hop legacy while presenting it on a global stage. We’re thrilled to extend the partnership and build on that foundation, supporting more music from across the pond and helping to amplify an exceptional slate of talent and creative projects.”
