The new year means new productions are on the horizon. Vineyard Theatre is one of New York City’s historic spaces yearning for fresh voices.

Beginning in 2026, the Vineyard Theatre will welcome a select group of creatives as part of its artistic development program. Among the Vineyard Theatre’s 2026 Artist In Residence list, you will find the names of artists Amyra León (formerly Amy Leon), playwright Sarah Gancher, and director and choreographer Martha Clarke.

In a statement issued by the facility, Vineyard welcomed the incoming creatives.

“We are honored to welcome multidisciplinary artist Amyra León, playwright Sarah Gancher, and director and choreographer Martha Clarke to The Vineyard to continue cultivating their work across disciplines,” wrote a rep.

The note continued: “Amyra, Sarah, and Martha join Colman Domingo Artist-in-Residence Ato Blankson-Wood, Susan Stroman Director-in-Residence Keenan Tyler Oliphant, and Paula Vogel Playwright-in-Residence Ro Reddick as resident artists this season at The Vineyard. We’re grateful to create opportunities to hear to more from each of their singular voices.”

Over on Facebook, Leon penned a message expressing gratitude for her upcoming tenure.

“Blessed to be an Artist in Residence at the Vineyard Theatre,” wrote the “” singer. “Honored to be alongside such powerhouse creators. I have been invited to dream beyond limitation and root myself in a process that honors my body and the vast nature of the work I am cultivating.”

She closed the note, writing, “This journey has just begun, and I am already so grateful for the care, intention, and support I have been given. I am thrilled to collaborate with a theatre that has truly dedicated its stage to innovation, quality, and experimentation. Get ready y’all, 2026 is going to be immense.”

Vineyard Theatre has not yet revealed what projects each of the new Artists in Residence is set to develop. However, on the venue’s official website, Vineyard online describes the program as “tailoring development to best serve the needs of their work and process.”
