To every yin, there is a yang. Cautious Clay’s forthcoming album, The Hours: Night, is an artistic example of fundamental philosophy. After the release of its lead singles, “Art Museum (2 am)” and “Fade Blue (11 pm),” fans have grown eager to hear the body of work.
But before the pièce de résistance is made available for all to hear, Cautious Clay is back with one final pre-release single. On the enthralling new track, “5th Floor (10 PM),” Clay teams up with legendary rapper Q-Tip, extracting the essence of true freedom and infusing it into commanding drum arrangements and inspirational piano strokes.
Co-written and produced by another music legend, Raphael Saadiq, “5th Floor (10 PM)” is a hypnotic blend of nostalgic production’s warmth and the fun fluidity of modern music.
In a statement shared with ENVERT, Clay shared his inspiration behind the song.
“This is about meeting someone at a party and feeling like you’re the only two people in the world,” said Cautious. “[‘5th Floor (10 PM)’] about letting go of distractions and fully enjoying that moment.”
“5th Floor (10 PM)” serves as the third single from his forthcoming album, The Hours: Night.
When discussing the body of work, Clay said: “‘The Hours: Night’ is the pure juxtaposition to the morning (clearly). I wanted the music to capture the feeling of being out at night with a bunch of loose plans and few expectations. I consider myself a night person, so this album was easier to make than the others. The night hours were, perhaps, more familiar.”
