Here Is Everything We Know About Jess Williamson’s Album ‘A Mile South of Heaven’

Jess Williamson has spent the three year following Time Ain’t Accidental‘s release in a constant state of reflection. So, when the singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist began working on her seventh studio album, A Mile South of Heaven, she found herself at a crossroad.

Instead of running away from this internal turmoil, Williamson used that as creative fuel. A Mile South of Heaven is two sides of the coin that is Williamson molded with the assistance of producer Shooter Jennings.

According to the album’s liner notes Mile South of Heaven split into two concise worlds—the striver’s paradise of Los Angeles (“Hum of the City”) and the wide-open desert of Marfa, Texas (“High Heels and Blue Jeans”).

A Mile South of Heaven‘s lead single, “Goodbye To All That” kicked off this parallel sonic world.

“I wrote this song as my goodbye to Los Angeles, at a time when I felt I needed to leave the city of angels for good,” wrote Williamson on Instagram. “But songs are powerful in sneaky ways, and the song itself made me want to stay.”

She continued, “So I did. And making this album in LA, right in the middle of Hollywood, in one of the most storied rooms in musical history with some of the best players around felt like the city’s gift to me for not giving up on it just yet.”

A Mile South of Heaven was recorded at Los Angeles’ historic Sunset Sound studio.
