In recent times, most recording artists’ release schedules have become rather predictable. Helado Negro is not one of those entertainers. Whenever creativity strikes, the “Protector” musician hits his nearest studio.
After releasing 2024’s full-length body of work PHASOR, Helado is back with a follow-up. Next month, Helado Negro will drop his debut EP on Big Dada (a sub-label of Ninja Tune), The Last Sound On Earth.
In the description provided by the label, The Last Sound On Earth is described as being inspired by “the question of what the last sound we hear might be, the songs blend haunting production with lyrical vulnerability, grappling with grief, loneliness, disillusionment, and the search for hope.”
Helado Negro elaborated on the synopsis, saying, “When I wake up in the morning, I can listen to my ears tuning in to the world around me. It feels like a blanket being pulled off my eardrums.”
He continued: “I was watching Michael Snow’s – Wavelength (in increments 😅) while working on these songs, and the room for interpretation of what I saw and heard felt large. Every time I watched it carved a new emotion out of me. Despair, hope, and inspiration. I wanted to ask more of listeners, to want to take time — not just pause, but ask yourself, can you untangle all of the mess and try again.”
