Dead Oceans Announces Partnership With Barnes & Noble Locations Nationwide

Barnes & Noble has something special in the works for customers. While the retailer is known for its vast inventory of visual materials, music lovers won’t be excluded from Barnes & Noble’s incoming inventory.

Barnes & Noble recently announced its partnership with independent record label Dead Oceans. To close out the year, the label has been selected as Barnes & Noble’s Indie Label Spotlight initiative.

Beginning from October 10 to January 4, 2026, Barnes & Noble nationwide will carry several limited-edition colored vinyl variants of Dead Oceans artists, including Wednesday‘s Bleeds (in metallic green swirl), Jensen McRae‘s I Don’t Know How But They Found Me! (in frosted Coke bottle translucent), Japanese Breakfast‘s For Melancholy Brunettes (& Sad Women) offered in summer sky splash, Mitski‘s Laurel Hell (in clear with silver & lavender splatter), Khruangbin‘s Mordechai (in morado), and Phoebe Bridgers’ Punisher (The Deep End) edition.

In a statement, Secretly Group’s co-owner and chief marketing officer Phil Waldorf expressed excitement over the venture.

“One of the things I’m most proud of with Dead Oceans is our ability to bring obscure and left-of-center music to a wide audience,” said Waldorf. “Partnerships like these prove that artists challenging the norm can have equal access to the marketplace. I am thrilled that through this collaboration, our artists are being placed front and center not just in the biggest cities, but suburbs and smaller towns.”

Barnes & Noble’s senior merchandise manager Crissi Bariatti returned the enthusiasm.

“We are thrilled to partner with trailblazing Indie label Dead Oceans for our Q4 Spotlight program,” said Bariatti. “Our customers already love their incredible roster of artists. By highlighting the Dead Oceans brand, we give our customers more CDs and LPs to discover and collect!”
