For Jorja Smith, being mysterious isn’t a marketing tactic. For the most part, Jorja has successfully kept her personal life private. But every so often, the “Little Things” singer slips a few intimate details into her music.
Jorja Smith’s new single “With You,” which was produced by Ed Thomas, Maverick Sabre, and Jakwob, may or may not be another truth in plain sight moment. Written alongside Thomas and Michael Stafford, “With You” documents a messy love dynamic in which neither wants to emotionally depart.
“Surely in my heart, I always had you deep down / But you had to move away to figure out some things / You had to live a life away from where you’ve been / Did I still spend some time on your mind? / Did you ever keep what I sent you that time? / You’re the only one who knows me / The one who’s truly loved me,” sings Jorja.
Although the song has all the making of an incredible contemporary R&B ballad, Jorja refuses to abandon her intoxicating electronic signature. This route lends itself useful for the official music video.
Director Ivor Lawson-Adamah expands Jorja’s sonic vision with an equally enticing cinematic background. As Jorja and her discreet lover (played by Dan Farrelly) attempts to find one another they are often interrupted by real life only finding time when in isolation.
