Chance The Rapper continues to knock down doors for his fellow independent artists. With the “Cocoa Butter Kisses” musician’s forthcoming album, Star Line Gallery, on the horizon, he has added another notch to his belt.
During the 2024 NHL Winter Classic (held on December 31), it was revealed that Chance The Rapper accomplished a significant milestone. Due to the latest RIAA certifications, Chance The Rapper is reportedly now the first independent artist to secure a diamond credit to his name.
He is now a diamond-certified rapper thanks to Chance’s verse on DJ KHALED Khaled’s 2017 song “I’m The One,” which also features Justin Bieber, Quavo, and Lil Wayne.
In a statement, Chance The Rapper expressed humility in the achievement. “‘I’m the One’ has been such a special record for me since the day we created it,” he said. “To see this track go diamond is a testament to the connection it’s made with so many people. Shout out to Khaled, Quavo, Justin [Bieber], and Wayne! Every time I perform this song, it brings an undeniable energy, and the fans’ love for it never wavers. Getting to play it live on New Year’s Eve in front of my hometown crowd in the greatest city in the world—there’s truly nothing better, and I’m beyond thankful!”
The latest certification date for the Grateful single was modified on December 6, 2024. Shortly after its release, “I’m The One” secured platinum status (by May 26, 2017). In the year after, the track continued to gain popularity. Now, “I’m The One” is a certified diamond record.
