Is New York becoming the new breeding ground for indie-pop stars? Well, yes, if guitarist, producer, and vocalist Mark Ambor has any say in it!
For far too long, music executives have drawn genre lines in the sand that have forcibly relocated up-and-coming artists. The northeast is for alternative bands, the central south is for country music, the deep south is for Hip-Hop, the midwest is for rock, while the west coast is for pop acts. After amassing over 1.5 million cumulative streams across platforms for his song “The Long Way”, Ambor, a New York native, has shaken things ups.
Now with the release of his new self-produced single, “Company,” Ambor is testing out the theory can lighting strike in the same spot twice. Riddled with vibrant synths, live drums, and charming vocals, it just might have. “Company” is a fierce showing for the pop newbie that combines the essence of some of today’s chart-toppers such as Harry Styles (“Watermelon Sugar”) and Shawn Mendes (“Mercy”).
When asked about the inspiration behind the track Ambor replied, “I wrote this song during quarantine when I was missing everyone and everything that made me feel alive. I was talking to a girl that I was falling away from, I hadn’t seen my friends in a while and the whole idea of the song just flowed out of me over a piano riff one day.”
Later adding, “the idea is simple: life is better with each other. Which, for me, really highlights an important feeling I want to convey; realizing we’re not alone and celebrating ourselves, with one another, for all we’re worth.”
