Sister duo Frances Rose is back with a new light-hearted single just in time for your summertime (limited) outdoor adventures. From the catchy melody to the placement of the drums, “Upstate” is quintessential early 2000s teen movie energy.

Reminiscent of early Aly & AJ, “Upstate” merges listeners’ favorite elements of soft rock and bubblegum pop. Although the song is uptempo in nature, it maintains a level of tranquillity while simultaneously weaving in a flair of excitement.

“Upstate” provides an airiness to a somewhat stuffy quarantine which will require for you to dust of your dancing shoes.

I had a chance to catch up with the pair to ask about the inspiration behind the track to which they replied, “the song was inspired by a friend from Woodstock, who grew up in Harlem. [Upstate] is a love song about growing up in the Hudson Valley and romantic freedom,” adding, “meeting beautiful people in the city, and the idea of taking them on a spontaneous trip to the countryside in Upstate, New York for a date.”

The song is dedicated to the pairs frequent collaborator and friend, Michael Bonner, who was the director of photography on the music video which is too be released at a later date.
