Indie rock band IDLES’s new album, Joy As An Act Of Resistance, is out now via Partisan Records and is setting the Internet a blaze. The album is as intelligent as it is immediate, and as intimately personal as it is outwardly inclusive. From the first note to the last, it is an arresting, timely record whose universal themes cross borders, being relevant the world over.
Tackling massive issues which are cultural, political, painful, angry, humorous, sad, and personal in nature, let alone with a naked honesty, is no easy task; however, that is exactly what IDLES have successfully managed to do on JAAAOR.
If the best art helps us to open up an otherwise closed door, allowing for a greater perspective in relation to feeling more connected as human beings, IDLES blows the hinges off the door in an effort to welcome everyone in, reminding us that joy is a powerful tool we collectively possess. As Joe Talbot often says, “Don’t go gentle. All is love,” and on both counts, we couldn’t agree more.
