Wednesday’s long-awaited follow-up to their 2023 album Rat Saw God is on the way. Next month, Bleeds, the band’s sixth studio project, will hit streaming services.
So far, fans have enjoyed three singles, “Wound Up Here (By Holdin On),” “Elderberry Wine,” and “Pick Up That Knife” off of the forthcoming album. According to Karly Hartzman, Wednesday’s founder, frontwoman, and primary lyricist, these offerings paint a vivid sonic picture of the “intoxicating collection of narrative-heavy Southern rock” focus on Bleeds.
Hartzman’s vocals, Xandy Chelmis on lap steel/pedal steel, Alan Miller on drums, Ethan Baechtold on bass and piano, and M.J. Lenderman on guitar, Bleeds amplifies the sound that Wednesday has become known and beloved for.
“’Bleeds’ is the spiritual successor to ‘Rat Saw God,’ and I think the quintessential ‘Wednesday Creek Rock’ album,” said Hartzman, speaking on the project. “This is what Wednesday songs are supposed to sound like,” she said. “We’ve devoted a lot of our lives to figuring this out—and I feel like we did.”
