Vince Staples has never been an entertainer to mince words or bite his tongue. In fact, his fearless public discourse is arguably what thrust him into mainstream notoriety in both television and music. But on the rapper’s forthcoming studio album, Cry Baby, listeners can expect heightened intensity from Staples.
As a newly independent artist (Loma Vista) having cut ties with his previous label (UMG), on Cry Baby, Staples will provide his raw, unapologetic thoughts on the current state of the world.
“‘Cry Baby’ is a more outwardly facing artistic statement and piece of social commentary,” read the album’s liner notes.
Based on the upcoming body of work’s title, cover art, which features a cartoonized depiction of President Donald J. Trump, and lead single “White Flag,” Cry Baby is the verbal lashing that American leadership deserves.
