Murder By DeathMurder By Death Band

Monday, April 18
Rough Trade NYC
Brooklyn, New York

Murder By Death’s path began in the early 2000s as most Midwestern college town groups do, by playing to small crowds at ratty venues and frenzied house parties. While many of their formative year scene-mates failed to make it much further than campus town’s borders, Murder By Death translated their anonymous beginnings into a 10+ year career founded on a bedrock of five full-length albums, tireless D.I.Y. touring and performing ethics, and, most importantly, a dedicated, cult-like fanbase.

AURORAAurora

Tuesday, April 19
The Bowery Ballroom
New York City, New York

19-year old pop star, AURORA, is on the cusp of releasing her debut full-length, All My Demons Greeting Me as a Friend, AURORA’s fantasies have only grown, inhabiting every corner of her music. A girl makes peace with her murderer and the inherent vulnerability of life in the haunting piano ballad “Murder Song (5,4,3,2,1).” A runaway fades away into the wonder of nature over the course of “Runaway,” her escape marked with harpsichord, live percussion, and an undeniable sense of wonder. And coupled with an anthemic swell of synths and AURORA’s triumphant vocal, “Running With the Wolves” makes tapping into one’s lupine side seem not only plausible but downright irresistible.

Sammie

Wednesday, April 20
Sounds of Brazil
New York City, New York

R&B singer Sammie is performing as part of You Know You Got Soul’s monthly Sol Village Showcase at Sounds of Brazil. Sammie’s music teacher was so impressed with their performances that she sent a videotape of them to the television program Showtime at the Apollo, which led to an audition for the group and a 1998 solo performance for Sammie. Ultimately winning the show’s finals, Sammie and his mother were contacted by Joyce Irby, an agent connected to Atlanta-based producer/songwriter Dallas Austin, who has worked with Monica and Another Bad Creation. Austin brought Sammie to his studios for some demos and almost a year later, had him return to record his debut album, From the Bottom to the Top, which was released in early 2000 by Capitol Records. Six years later, Austin signed him to his reactivated Rowdy label and released his self-titled album.

ZuliZuli

Saturday, April 23
Rough Trade NYC
Brooklyn, New York

“The Artist that’s changing the indie pop game, the five-track compilation is vaguely reminiscent of a trippy, hallucinogen-fueled daydream and tinged with ’70s influences and swaying summer campfire sessions” – NYLON

“On new single “Better All the Time,” the New York native provides an electric three-minute trip into a spaced-out fantasy, with a trippy soundscape full of glam rock and psych-pop influences” – SPIN

“Marrying the spaciness of Electric Light Orchestra’s ‘Strange Magic’ and the sunniness of The Beatles’ ‘Getting Better,’ “Better All The Time” by Zuli is a dazzling piece of pop” – The Deli

“It’s rare that a video in 2015 bothers to craft a narrative, and it’s even rarer for one to be so unfailingly entertaining. Along with the song and its weirdo dance jangles, “Better All The Time” is violently joyful” – Flavorwire
