New Zealand’s hottest indie alternative export is back in stock. After three grueling years, The Beths is ready to share a new body of work. In late August, The Beths will release their highly anticipated album, Straight Line Was A Lie.
Of The Beths’ recent offerings, both “Metal” and “No Joy” will appear on the forthcoming project. Following “No Joy” hitting streaming services, The Beths’ lead vocalist Elizabeth Stokes gushed about the new creative direction they’re heading in, which includes songwriting.
Stokes ensured Straight Line Was A Lie was the embodiment of this vision.
“I was kind of dealing with a new brain, and I feel like I write very instinctually,” said Stokes. “It was kind of like my instincts were just a little different; they weren’t as panicky.”
She continued: “Writing so much down forced me to look at stuff that I didn’t want to look at. In the past, in my memories. Things I normally don’t like to think about, or I’m scared to revisit, I’m putting them down on paper and thinking about them, addressing them.”
“Linear progression is an illusion. What life really is is maintenance. But you can find meaning in the maintenance,” Stokes closed.
