Psychedelic pop trio Shadow Show just won’t take a break. After releasing their debut album, Silhouettes in February, the trio is back with two new singles in a mind-blowing 45 that draws on classic rock and roll influences and power pop riffs.
“What Again Is Real?” and “Is This A Dream?” are the perfect combination of experimental garage rock and British Invasion that is both chaotically alluring and awe-inspiring. Mid-sixties mod vibes permeate the record, accentuating the psychedelic atmosphere that drives Shadow Show’s work.
Guitarist Ava East, bassist Kate Derringer, and drummer Kerrigan Pearce push boundaries in their single “What Again Is Real?” though a colorful explosion of lyrics and sound. A chorus of 12-string guitars and multi-layered harmonies turn this song into an otherworldly experience.
On “Is This A Dream?” Shadow Show pays homage to legendary Nashville band The Feminine Complex. The trio reimagines the 1969 song with a twist of their personal brand: rambunctious drums, supro-toned guitars, and mesmerizing vocals.
The accompanying music video for “Is This a Dream?” shot in Los Angeles on 8mm film, parallels 60’s iconic imagery present in classical music videos such as “Rain” by The Beatles in a way that is clever, frisky and organic.
Their vivacious sound is true to their unique signature, unmistakable present throughout the recordings. Although Shadow Show is proving to innovate indie music one track at a time, the band is not afraid to channel the past. .
