At the heart of country music is good ole gut-wrenching storytelling. During the 2025 CMA Awards, that deeply appreciated part of the genre was put on full display.
Inspired by Stephen King’s novel The Long Walk, Shaboozey and Stephen Wilson Jr. joined forces on “Took A Walk” for the film adaptation’s official soundtrack. With the record gaining traction on streaming platforms, the pair reunited at the 2025 CMA Awards for a striking duet of the song.
Appearing from the beautifully arranged faux meadow field set design, Shaboozey sternly opened the somber tune.
“Took a walk / And I saw the land / Where Adam stepped foot for the first time / And realized he was a man / Saw the dogwoods / Held some in my hand / ‘Cause my old man, well, he told me to stop / And count ’em all while I can / The key to life is enjoying the journey / When you don’t know the end,” sang Shaboozey.
Still poetically strumming at his guitar, Wilson Jr. powerfully sang, “I took a look / And I saw the light / Where Eve stepped foot for the last time / And took the first bite / Born in a battlefield, stand tall as giants / Fight with the wind, yeah, our story winds up / With footprints behind us.”
