Whether I'm popping in to an open mic night or…
The fresh new faces of R&B music have overwhelmingly been imported from England. But, of the singer’s coming out of London, Sasha Keable is arguably leading the pack.
With a public co-sign from Beyoncé and a devoted online following, the “Move It Along” singer is primed to take over the US market. Sasha Keable’s recent appearance on NPR’s Tiny Desk Concert series served as the perfect place to plant her musical flag.
Keable’s soulful set, comprised of fan favorites “Feel Something,” “Act Right,” “Take Your Time,” and more, she boldly proved that the online hype surrounding her is well-deserved.
“I can’t even express how much it means to be here,” she confessed. “The journey I’ve been on, I’ve really been working at this industry for like 15 years.”
She continued: “So if there was anything I could say to anyone who watches this, it is that if they are close to giving up, please don’t. I was really close [to giving up], but [my breakthrough] happened. You just have to keep doing what your heart feels like you should do. Trust in God, yourself, and your gut.”
Yes, the performance platformed Keable, but she was sure to share the light with her supporting band (musical director Slim Wav on keys, guitarist Sharod Virtuoso, bassist EJ MoBetta, drummer Jordan Hemby, trumpeter Spiff Sinatra and saxophonist Larry “Laj” Smith) and background vocalists (Morgan Lett, Chelseá Mabson, and Chriz Vaughn).
From her spine-tingling, deeply warm vocals to her undeniable charisma, Sasha Keable’s Tiny Desk Concert debut demonstrates that she is everything users online claim she is.
