To get over one person, you have to get under another is deeply problematic advice. Well, that’s what Reggie Becton concludes on his latest release.
As Becton continues to tease his new studio project (TLGAS), he has kept fans fed with vibrant one-off tracks. Reggie Becton’s latest single drop, “DND,” seems to be the sonic glue piecing his plans together.
On “DND,” which was produced by Étienne, Becton is haunted by his decision to neglect his emotional fractures. Co-written alongside Étienne, Deandra Stegall, and Dustin Bowie, Becton converts his anguish into a teachable moment for others.
“Have I gone too far / It’s still on my mind what we do in the dark / Tryna keep it together, I’m falling apart / I’ve been lying with her like it’s you in my arms / Caught up in a storm,” sings Becton.
With every release, Becton world builds. Every song has its own distinctly quirky production nuances to tell its story in a sonically unique way. This was a part of the magic heard throughout 2024’s Sadboy Vol. 2.
But “DND” is different from anything we’ve heard thus far from Becton, and that’s largely due to the additional production and string arrangement by Luke Shrestha, Simon H. Jay, and The Budapest Orchestra.
For “DND,” Reggie Becton sweeps listeners into his internal turmoil with a robust symphonic score to metaphorically stress just how surrounded he feels. Yes, Becton is the drama. However, a bit of it will spill over onto you.
With Grammy Award nominee Jose Cardoza at the helm of the mixing and mastering of “DND,” if he remains on for TLGAS fans need to brace themselves for what’s to come.
“DND” is a whirlwind of Becton’s romantic messiness. Yet the orchestral eye of the storm (Étienne’s production) makes the blowback worth sticking around for.
