The Montclair Film Festival lineup has been revealed and film fans throughout the state have been rushing over to The Wellmont Theater to get their tickets.
Beginning Friday, April 29, the first film will be none other than Roger Ross Williams’ Life, Animated starring Owen Suskind, Ron Suskind, Cornelia Suskind and Walter Suskind to which will be followed by an opening party presented by Investors Bank.
While the festival will span over a period of 10-days, some of the films with the most buzz include Maris Curran’s Five Nights in Maine (starring David Oyelowo, Dianne Wiest and Rosie Perez); Rob Reiner’s Being Charlie; Whit Stillman’s Love & Friendship (starring Kate Beckinsale and Chloe Sevigny); Hunt for the Wilderpeople, helmed by Thor 3 director Taika Waititi; James Lapine’s Custody (starring Viola Davis and Hayden Panettiere); Rebecca Miller’s Maggie’s Plan (starring Julianne Moore, Ethan Hawke, Bill Hader, Maya Rudolph, Wallace Shawn and Greta Gerwig); and Lorene Scafaria’s The Meddler (starring Susan Sarandon, Rose Byrne and J.K. Simmons.) The documentaries Weiner(about the disgraced ex-congressman), Newtown (about the 2012 Connecticut school shooting) and Maya Angelou: And Still I Rise will also screen at the event.. In a statement MFF executive director Tom Hall wrote, “this year’s festival marks our organization’s fifth anniversary and we are deeply honored to be able to present such a diverse, engaging program of films at the festival.”
Hall added, “to see how far our community has brought us in just five years — filmmakers, sponsors, donors, members, volunteers, partners and patrons — is extraordinary. We cannot wait to introduce these filmmakers and their stories to our audiences.”
