Miles Caton’s Performance Of ‘I Lied To You’ At The 2026 Oscars Was A Generational Showing Of Pure Soul

Miles Caton is a music prodigy, and the public doesn’t talk about it enough. During the 2026 Oscars (98th Academy Awards), this mind-blowing reality took center stage as the nominee performed Sinners‘ original track, “I Lied To You.”

Carrying on with the film’s breathtaking “pierce the veil” scene, Canton proved that lightning could strike twice in the same spot. Opening the set with the track’s writer and award-winning musician Raphael Saadiq, “I Lied To You,” viewers were in for an emotional four minutes.

Before you knew it, you were transported back to the juke for an evening of freedom. As Caton gutturally serenaded the crowd, he was joined by an all-star set of cameo appearances, including his Sinners co-stars Jayme Lawson, Jack O’Connell, and Li Jun Li.

On the musical front, blues legends Buddy Guy, Bobby Rush, and Christone “Kingfish” Ingram joined Caton to amplify the multi-generational showing of pure soul. Fellow vocalist Alice Smith, as well as Brittany Howard and Shaboozey, helped to enrich the set.

Featured prominently throughout the performances were displays of cultural traditions in the arts mirroring the dynamic sequence in Sinners. Despite a recent hip replacement, legendary ballerina Misty Copeland refused to sit this magical moment out. The dancer made a striking cameo among the sea of once-in-a-lifetime arts.
