Whether I'm popping in to an open mic night or…
Netherlands-based singer and songwriter Marle Thomson’s latest single, “Hearts” off her forthcoming EP Shapes (via TCBYML) is an example as to what pop music could be. The track co-produced by and featuring guitar work by Kofi Anonymous (New Cool Collective, Benny Sings, Giovanca, Wouter Hamel) combines all of your favorite elements of pop with the passion of soul.
The track serves as one of the most realistic depictions of love I’ve come across in a while. Self-described as “soulful indie pop with hints of dreamy folk” artist, Thomson’s intentional mature songwriting paired with her warm vocals transport you into a realm of love’s possibility.
When asked about the inspiration behind the track, Thomson replied, “[HEARTS] is an honest conversation between two people in love, who find it not always easy to connect. Sometimes ‘we mess up, we stumble, make apologies ’.”
Later adding, “relationship isn’t always perfect, but as long as we are willing to talk and show our vulnerability and fears, there’s always a way to love. And as we grow closer, we learn to embrace our imperfections and differences.”
