In the wake of the Music Modernization Act, SoundCloud is making quite a few changes to the inner workings of their platform to benefit unsigned and independent recording artists.
One of the first changes is to allow musicians on the platform to monetize their music with SoundCloud Premier as part of a non-exclusive partnership. Best part, the musician will retain all full rights to their works joining the likes of Chance the Rapper, Kali Uchis, Alina Baraz and blackbear.
The second change is to allow SoundCloud Premier users the ability to upload their works to all e-music store with the click of a button within the platform or as Tim Ingham writes in Music Business Worldwide, “seamlessly distribute their music to the likes of Amazon Music, Apple Music, Instagram, Spotify, Tencent, YouTube Music and more – all from within their SoundCloud account.”
In an official statement released by SoundCloud, CEO Kerry Trainor spoke about this historic move, “Only SoundCloud empowers creators with a unified platform to instantly upload and share, connect with fans in real-time and get paid for their work everywhere –both on SoundCloud and across other leading music services,” later adding, “creators can now spend less time and money jumping between different tools, and more time making music, connecting with fans and growing their careers first on SoundCloud.”
Users currently using the SoundCloud Pro and Pro Unlimited plan will access SoundCloud Premier at no additional cost. To read more about this historic news, head over to Music Business Worldwide whom originally broke the story.

Whether I'm popping in to an open mic night or digital crate-digging for hours through my favorite digital streaming platform, finding indie artists is the name then telling their story is the game.
