Luna Aura’s ‘Three Cheers For The American Beauty’ Is An Unapologetic Anthem

Luna Aura

Alternative rock singer and songwriter Luna Aura released her debut EP Three Cheers For The American Beauty and it’s the rebellious and empowering anthem that will keep indie fans rocking this season.

Reminiscent of 2010’s alternative pop with more current arrangements heard in Melanie Martinez, Lana del Rey and even Billie Eillish music Luna Aura make a bold introduction.  Spanning 18 minutes of heavy guitar riffs and uncensored lyrics, Three Cheers For The American Beauty explores topics such as female identity, self-discovery, and individuality.

The EP opens with “Crash Drive”, an explosive track that is all about expressing one’s desires. The high-energy chorus hits hard and makes for a strong opener that takes on some 80’s grunge vibes.

“I knew you weren’t ready for a girl like me,” Luna Aura sings in “Honey”. This track keeps up the pace set by “Crash Drive” while making use of her unique vocal range that goes from mysterious and raspy to high-pitched and desperate.

“Talking to Me” tells a story of empowerment. Lyrics such as “I’m not you little girl / I’m not your friend / Can’t tell me what I am / can’t tell me shit” sung over a strong pulsating bass line assert Luna Aura’s take on her individuality. She won’t let anyone tell her what to do or how to feel.

The second half of the EP slows down a bit with “English Boys” and “Papercut”, tracks that make it easier to focus on Luna Aura’s seductive vocals thanks to the change in instrumentation and pace. “Babydoll” wraps up the EP with a track that is all about revenge on a previous lover, and leaves listeners hungry for more.

Three Cheers for The American Beauty is unapologetic. It’s about taking control of your life, your decisions, and your voice. When asked about it, Luna Aura shared that, “[Three Cheers For The American Beauty] is a concept EP about the cultural and societal conditioning that I was able to rid myself of once I learned to trust myself and step into my womanhood. It’s about autonomy, and never letting anyone control you or tell you where you belong.”
