Little Simz has kept her fans fed with an abundance of music releases. From 2024’s Drop 7 to her back-to-back drops of No Thank You (2022) and Sometimes I Might Be Introvert (2021), the “Gorilla” rapper’s creativity knows no bounds.

Next month, fans will receive another piece of Little Simz’s musical imagination through her latest studio album, Lotus. The project’s lead singles, “Free” and “Flood” featuring Obongjayar & Moonchild Sanelly are simply appetizers of what’s to come.

Across the 13-song body of work, Little Simz will bring Sampha, Lydia Kitto, Moses Sumney, Miraa May, Yukimi, and more into her sonic story of rebirth. “The last 12 months have been my year of the Lotus,” wrote Little Simz on Instagram, describing the inspiration behind the album. “Learned how to thrive in muddy waters. The time of bloom is now.”

The project of Oliver Ackermann, A Place to Bury Strangers combines shoegaze, space rock, and more into blisteringly loud but often beautiful music. Despite frequent lineup changes, APTBS' dedication to volume, pedal-stomping sounds, and smoldering attitude remained as they moved from the classic shoegaze sounds of their 2007 self-titled debut to the noise and electronic experiments of albums like 2015's Transfixiation and 2018's Pinned. In the 2020s, A Place to Bury Strangers returned to their noisy roots, leavening them with melody on 2022's See Through You and taking them to engulfing extremes on 2024's Synthesizer. While the group's roots date back to 2002, A Place to Bury Strangers first gained momentum when Ackermann, formerly of the like-minded Skywave, joined forces with drummer Jason "Jay Space" Weilmeister and bassist Jonathan "Jono Mofo" Smith, both former members of the band Mofo. This lineup of APTBS played their first show in Brooklyn in 2003, and took a darker, heavier, and more experimental approach than any of the members' previous projects. The trio made a splash in 2006, when they self-released three EPs and played shows that led to them being hailed as New York's loudest band. In 2007, Killer Pimp released the group's self-titled debut, which captured their sonic assault in its rawest form. To support the album, the band toured with Black Rebel Motorcycle Club and Nine Inch Nails. After signing to Mute in early 2009, APTBS honed their songwriting for that October's Exploding Head. In 2010, Mofo left the group and was replaced by bassist Dion Lunadon. For the 2012 EP Onwards to the Wall, APTBS moved in a darker, louder direction reminiscent of their early releases. By the time their third long-player, Worship, arrived that June, A Place to Bury Strangers were down to the duo of Ackermann and Lunadon, who recorded and produced the album themselves. Later that year, drummer Robi Gonzalez joined the group and made his recorded debut on 2013's Strange Moon, an EP of covers of songs by the legendary Portland band Dead Moon. APTBS then worked with Serena Maneesh's Emil Nikolaisen at Norway's ABC Studios on February 2015's Transfixiation. The band's first release for Dead Oceans, it was also one of their noisiest and most eclectic albums. Gonzalez retired from touring and was replaced by Ceremony drummer and former Skywave member John Fedowitz for the Transfixiation tour. Drummer/vocalist Lia Simon Braswell joined A Place to Bury Strangers for 2018's Pinned, a sleek set that emphasized electronic textures as well as the interplay between Ackermann's and Braswell's singing. Ackermann then appeared in the guitar effects pedal documentary The Pedal Movie and remixed Data Animal's single "Dead Raver" before the release of July 2021's Hologram EP. A Place to Bury Strangers' inaugural release on Ackermann's Ded Strange label, it was some of the project's noisiest music in years and featured Fedowitz on bass and Sandra Fedowitz on drums. The band continued in this ear-splitting yet melodic vein on February 2022's full-length See Through You. This lineup of APTBS played dates including 2023's Levitation Festival, which was captured on that year's Live at Levitation, and brought more of their live energy to their next album, Synthesizer. Appearing in October 2024, it presented a raw, collaborative version of the band's music (the album's vinyl release included a circuit board that could be used to build a synthesizer). - Biography by Heather Phares

Singer, songwriter, and guitarist Mei Semones makes sophisticated indie pop with undertones of jazz, bossa nova, and math rock. Based in Brooklyn, she issued her debut EP, Tsukino, in 2022. It featured lyrics in both Japanese and English, a trend she continued on subsequent releases, including her debut for Brooklyn indie Bayonet Records, 2024's Kabutomushi EP, and her full-length debut, 2025's Animaru. Semones grew up in Ann Arbor, Michigan, playing piano and later switching to guitar. Initially attracted to indie rock, her tastes grew more eclectic as she began playing in local jazz and funk groups. While studying jazz guitar performance at Boston's Berklee College of Music, she started collaborating with artists like Reggie Pearl, the Brazen Youth, and G Luné, and releasing her own music. Blending a unique set of influences from Thelonius Monk and João Gilberto to Smashing Pumpkins, Semones recorded her debut EP, Tsukino, back in Michigan and self-released it in 2022. Singing in both Japanese and English, it introduced her savvy mix of intricate guitar pop with bossa nova rhythms and string arrangements (by Noah Leong). Its release coincided with a move from Boston to New York, and she spent the next year releasing a pair of interesting collaborations with John Roseboro ("Waters of March" and "How to Cope"). Semones joined the roster of Brooklyn's Bayonet Records at the start of 2024, and the indie label released her EP Kabutomushi in April. Produced, recorded, and mixed by Kai Tsao, it found her again joined by a small acoustic combo that included Leong on viola, Claudius Agrippa on violin, Jaden Raso on bass, and Ransom McCafferty on drums. She reunited nearly the same backing band, now with Noam Tanzer on bass, to record her full-length debut with co-producer Charles Dahlke (the Brazen Youth). In the meantime, Semones enjoyed a surge in popularity as she toured large theaters in support of Hippo Campus, in addition to tours with Elephant Gym, Katy Kirby, and others. Alternative singer/songwriter Samia's often angsty indie rock songs combine easygoing hooks and vulnerable insights. After releasing her first tracks in 2017, she delivered her debut album, The Baby, in 2020. The relationship-themed Honey and its charting title track followed in 2023. Exploring the idea of personas versus authenticity, Samia's third LP, 2025's Bloodless, merged rustic acoustic, electronic, and rock instrumentation, often within the same song. A New York native, Samia Finnerty was writing songs and playing in bands and at open mikes by her mid-teens. The daughter of actress Kathy Najimy and actor/musician Dan Finnerty (the Dan Band), she also pursued acting, and as a 19-year-old in 2016, she appeared in the off-Broadway premiere of Sarah DeLappe's Pulitzer Prize-nominated play The Wolves. A guest spot on the Fox series Gotham followed in 2017. Continuing to work on her music, Samia released the guitar song "Welcome to Eden" later the same year, with fully arranged band tracks following over the course of 2018. In 2019, she toured with Cold War Kids, opened a show for Soccer Mommy, and played festivals including SXSW and Firefly. Compiling some of her prior releases, including "Someone Tell the Boys" and "The Night Josh Tillman Listened to My Song," her debut EP, Ode to Artifice, appeared that August. In the meantime, she released a handful of newly recorded covers, among them songs by Liz Phair and Daniel Johnston. Samia's full-length debut, The Baby, arrived on independent label Grand Jury in August 2020. Its production team included Caleb Wright (formerly Hinz), Lars Stalfors, and Hippo Campus' Jake Luppen and Nathan Stocker. The following January, The Baby Reimagined featured remixes and cover versions of the debut by artists like Field Medic, Palehound, and Bartees Strange. Samia herself then included a cover of When in Rome's "The Promise" featuring indie soul singer and rapper Jelani Aryeh on the follow-up EP, Scout, in August 2021. It was produced by Boone Wallace and Andy Seltzer (IAN SWEET, Chelsea Cutler). Samia shared concert bills with the likes of Lucy Dacus and Courtney Barnett on ensuing tours. Around this time, she relocated to Nashville. Working again with Wright, Samia next headed to Betty's, a North Carolina studio operated by frequent touring partners Sylvan Esso, to record Honey, her second album. Released on Grand Jury in January 2023, it featured appearances by musician friends like Christian Lee Hutson and Briston Maroney, and yielded a charting hit in its title track. After three years in Nashville, Samia moved to Minneapolis while releasing several non-album singles, including 2024's "Making Breakfast," and touring both as a headliner and in support of Bleachers. Her third album, April 2025's Bloodless, was another relationship-themed outing, but this time focused on the battle between forming personas and risking rejection by being oneself. A stylistically capricious set that merged everything from rustic acoustic components to sleek electronics and heavier rock, often within the same song, it was recorded with Wright and Luppen as well as Raffaella, with whom she toured later that year. - Biography by Marcy Donelson

Australian indie rock band Eliza & the Delusionals are excited to announce their highly-anticipated second studio album Make It Feel Like The Garden out Friday, July 19 via Cooking Vinyl. Limited edition pre-order bundles are available now. In anticipation of the upcoming release, the trio is sharing their second single, "Falling For You," out now on all streaming services. Written during a creative retreat in Napa, California, "Falling For You" explores the disorienting nature of emotional entanglements. Amid the chaos of feelings, the track delves into the struggle of maintaining one's identity amidst the turmoil of love and longing. Eliza Klatt (lead singer) comments, “'Falling For You’ was a personal favorite from the get-go for me. There’s just something about the driving beat and the soaring melodies that I love. We knew we wanted to experiment with saxophone for this record, and this song felt like the perfect track for that. I think there is so much emotion to it, and it’s such a beautiful part of the song. To me, lyrically it’s about not wanting to fall down the rabbit hole of falling in love but you just can’t help it." The band is also releasing a stunning video, created by Brisbane videographer and 3D designer Tom Carroll (@egumei) who brought to life the concept of the garden. On the video, Eliza adds, "It was amazing seeing the whole visual side of things come together - seeing the entire Garden come to life the way he had imagined it. Visuals are always such an important part of a record to us, we always want to try something different and push the boundaries of the ideas we have. Kurt Skuse (guitarist) always has an out-of-the-box idea, and it's just amazing to see the ideas when they come to fruition.” Make It Feel Like The Garden was conceptualized on the road during their North American tour in 2022, with Kurt and Eliza writing the majority of the album at their DIY studio in Napa, California, before heading back home and recording with visionary producer Oscar Dawson (Holy Holy, Teen Jesus and the Jean Teasers, CLEWS, Amy Shark) at his studio in Rye, Victoria. Describing the process, Eliza says “It was interesting to see how working in a different part of the world, outside of the comfort of our home studio and Australia in general, has influenced our writing and the process of demoing the songs. Recording the album with Oscar Dawson was an incredibly collaborative experience. He continued to push us out of our comfort zones which led us to feeling really free creatively. I think this also made us write in our most honest and genuine form.” The album will also include the latest release & title track "Make It Feel Like The Garden" which has received massive support in Australia from Triple M, including being added on their national Homegrown program and Triple M Brisbane Weekend Nights, plus airplay across triple j, SYN FM, 4ZZZ, 2SER and Rebel FM. Make It Feel Like The Garden follows the release of several singles and the band’s acclaimed EP A State Of Living In An Objective Reality which features the single “Just Exist.” The track topped the charts of SiriusXM's defining alternative rock station Alt Nation and listeners voted it Number 1 on the Weekly ALT18 countdown, where it remained in the Top 10 for over a month. More than a dozen stations across the U.S. – including national network Music Choice and influential outlets in New York, California, Texas, and Florida added the track to their rotation. As of May 2024, the song is now at 6.3 million streams on Spotify. OK Go have built their career on blending punchy, melodic rock & roll with a keen visual sense which they manifested through a series of ingenious homemade videos that turned them into viral stars of the mid-2000s. Although they were backed by a major label, the band became known as scrappy D.I.Y. heroes, utilizing low-budget but tightly choreographed music videos that inspired heaps of imitators and won them a Grammy Award for 2007's "Here It Goes Again." This energy carried them into the next decade and sent 2010's Of the Blue Colour of the Sky into the Top 40. OK Go continued to craft their visual image while self-releasing their 2014 album, Hungry Ghosts, and an assortment of follow-up singles. Over a decade passed before the band returned with their fifth studio album, 2025's And the Adjacent Possible. Singer/guitarist Damian Kulash, guitarist Andrew Duncan, bassist Tim Nordwind, and drummer Dan Konopka, formed OK Go in Chicago during the fall of 1998. Prior to Kulash's move from the East Coast, the other three members had played together in the Chicago-based band called Stanley's Joyful Noise. During their first couple of years, OK Go garnered considerable media attention in the Windy City thanks to their exuberant live shows and high-profile opening spots for artists like Elliott Smith and the Promise Ring. Along with a pair of three-song CD singles, they served as the de facto house band for a touring version of Ira Glass' NPR program This American Life. OK Go eventually signed with Capitol and issued an eponymous debut in September 2002, scoring a modest modern rock radio hit with "Get Over It." By this time, they had relocated to Los Angeles, where they began working on new material. When the combo returned in August 2005 to issue the sophomore effort Oh No, it was without guitarist Duncan, who'd left after sessions for the album had ended. His replacement was Andy Ross, who joined the band in creating a pair of ingenious, low-budget videos. The clip for "A Million Ways" featured the bandmates practicing complicated dance steps in a backyard; consisting of one long take, it spawned countless fan tributes online and helped the song become a hit in Europe. By early 2006, the video had achieved a record amount of downloads and the band OK Go responded with an even more effective follow-up. The video for "Here It Goes Again" was another single-shot-wonder that featured a meticulously choreographed sequence of the band dancing on moving treadmills. The riffy power pop song became OK Go's first Top 40 hit and its video won a Grammy Award. An EP, You're Not Alone, appeared in 2008, benefitting musicians in New Orleans who'd been displaced by Hurricane Katrina. They also entered the studio with producer Dave Fridmann to record their next LP. Released in 2010, the funk-influenced Of the Blue Colour of the Sky split the difference between the radio polish of their debut and the edgier sound of Oh No. It was also their most commercially successful, cracking the Top 40, thanks in part to singles like "This Too Shall Pass" and "End Love." Despite this, OK Go parted ways with Capitol/EMI just months after its release and reissued the album on their newly formed Paracadute label. They toured heavily in support of the release, logging 180 shows in 2010 alone. Some of the shows were recorded, and the resulting footage was released the following year as 180/365, a live album featuring mixing from Dave Fridmann, whom OK Go would work with again on their fourth studio album, Hungry Ghosts, in 2014. To supplement tours and recordings in the coming years, the band adopted a business model that involved funding from non-musical sponsors like State Farm Insurance, Yahoo!, and Range Rover for which they made elaborate music videos which included those companies' branding. OK Go's first new music of the next decade was 2020's "All Together Now," a song they recorded remotely and released as a tribute to healthcare workers affected by COVID-19. They spent the next several years completing work on their fifth album and first full-length since 2014. Tennis is Alaina Moore and Patrick Riley. The two met in the philosophy department at the University of Colorado in 2008 after dropping out of their respective music programs. In the years after graduating, they got involved in Denver’s DIY music scene. Through house shows, they were connected with Underwater Peoples, and Firetalk. Tennis’ first singles “South Carolina,” “Baltimore,” and “Marathon” were released in 2010. The band went blog-viral nearly overnight, landing them a record deal with Fat Possum. Cape Dory, (2011 on Fat Possum), documents Moore and Riley’s time spent living aboard a small sailboat on the Atlantic coast. The album debuted at #1 on Billboard’s Heatseeker chart, transitioning Tennis from house-shows to stages such as Lollapalooza. Tennis recorded their sophomore effort Young & Old (2012) with Patrick Carney of the Black Keys. They made their television debut on The Tonight Show, The Late Show, and Conan. In 2014 they signed with Communion. The resulting release, Ritual in Repeat was the culmination of separate recording sessions with Richard Swift, Jim Eno and Patrick Carney. Moore and Riley were greatly influenced by Richard Swift’s approach to recording and engineering, prompting Riley’s decision to take over as engineer on their future releases. With shifting labels and new interests, Tennis chose an alternate path for their band and career. In 2016, Moore and Riley formed the label Mutually Detrimental and began self-releasing. Their newfound freedom allowed them to return to their sailboat to write their next full-length, this time in the Sea of Cortez. Yours Conditionally, released in 2017, became their most commercially successful album–charting at #4 on Billboard’s Independent list and in the top 100 highest selling vinyl releases that year. They played Coachella and opened for artists like The National, Father John Misty and The Shins–proving their DIY roots as a cornerstone to their sound and narrative. Their follow up Swimmer (2020), was recorded in their home studio with Moore and Riley producing and engineering. The pair brought their long-time touring member Steve Voss in for the second time to drum on record. The singles, Need Your Love and Runner, were Tennis’ most successful releases to date. With nearly every show on tour sold-out (including two consecutive nights at Brooklyn Steel) the album’s campaign was cut short by the Covid-19 pandemic.
