Khamari has covertly become the maestro of melancholy mixes. His latest singles, “Sycamore Tree” and “Head In A Jar” are shining examples of this musical mission. But with Khamari’s highly anticipated sophomore album, the vocalist wants to round out his offerings.
On his latest release, “Lonely In The Jungle,” Khamari recounts heartbreak’s grueling sting. Co-written and produced with Trackside (Diederik Van Elsas and Parrish Warrington), “Lonely In The Jungle” shows off Khamari’s groovier side.
“Oh love, I’m sleeping on your couch / Sinking into my self-doubt / That’s such an awful feeling / Clock’s broken, I lose count / But still I’m holding out / Can’t help my wishful thinking / If there’s a God in this lonely jungle, why haven’t my prayers been answered,” sings Khamari.
Anchored by a spunky bassline and conspicuous percussion arrangement, “Lonely In The Jungle” brings charismatic funk to a moment when you would otherwise feel funky.
Over on Instagram, Khamari shed light on the inspiration behind “Lonely In The Jungle.”
“Last year, coming home from a trip to New York, sometime after I found the song ‘Last Goodbye’ by Jeff Buckley, and it changed the way I was approaching making music,” he wrote. “[I] was thinking about all the ways we’re constantly surrounded by ‘more’ and still struggling with our own versions of loneliness… ended up writing this song.”
