Joyner Lucas Questions The ‘Devil’s Work’

Rapper Joyner Lucas releases his first single, “Devil’s Work” since separating from Atlantic Records back in December. In traditional Lucas fashion, the single was shared with fans by way of a masterly crafted official video on YouTube.

No stranger to controversial viral success, Lucas’ video for “Devil’s Work” is no different. Throughout the video the emcee voices his frustrations in the actions of the higher power.

“Dear Lord, I got questions and I need answers
Tryna understand your vision, all I see is damage
Just a bunch of dead bodies in the street camping
A bunch of lost souls on their feet standing” – Joyner Lucas, The Devil’s Work

With the recent tragic killing of artist and entrepreneur Nipsey Hussle, Lucas wants to know why. Why are the good dying young and what would the world be like if those who “deserved” to die took their place.

Throughout “The Devil’s Work” video, Lucas holds a “trade” inside a pristine catholic church for the return of the lives of the innocent in exchange for those the rapper deems who deserve to take their place in the after life.

When asked by on the street about if he was shocked by the backlash he’s since received from the video as well as the statements issued by the church’s leadership in which the video was filmed, Lucas replied, “nah, [the church’s leadership] knew what was going on,” adding, “matter of fact, they got paid.”
