Whether I'm popping in to an open mic night or…
Since as far back as March 2025, Joyce Wrice has been teasing her long-awaited sophomore album. Nearly a year later, Wrice is giving supporters a taste of what’s to come.
The first offering has arrived by way of Joyce Wrice’s new Malik Ninety Five and Mike Baretz-produced single, “Break Me In.” Co-written with Grammy Award-winner Church, Shae Jacobs, and Hadar, the record explores Wrice’s more sensual side as heard on her Isaiah Falls collaboration “Butterflies.”
Throughout Wrice’s 2021 debut album Overgrown, she holds no lyrical punches, exposing the raw and at times unsettling truth of many women’s search for love.
On “Break Me In,” Joyce Wrice has finally arrived at a point in which love is no longer gatekept but where it flows endlessly—both emotionally and physically. As her capacity for intimacy reaches its peak, so does her sexual proclivities.
Blending nostalgic production pockets of R&B’s early 2000s and the unapologetic raunchy sass of the genre’s present day, Wrice lets go of any standard sonic structures or imposed rules of sexual modesty with “Break Me In.”
“I been so wild lately, baby / Won’t you come and tame me? / I’m so far gone, how much further can you take me? / Shoot your shot, take off the safety / Touch my soul / If you can make me rain and thunderstorm / Baby, I’m all yours / I’ll go insane, I’ll lose control / I hate it when you make me wait / When I touch myself, it′s not the same / I need you to break me in,” sings Joyce.
Fans online have taken to social media to express their love for the record, drawing comparisons to production elements of Amerie’s classic 2002 single “Why Don’t We Fall in Love” and the vocal stylings of Brandy’s 2004 “Talk About Our Love.”
In a TikTok video, Wrice thanked fans for the kind words, as both singers influenced her career in varying ways.
“These comments mean so much to me,” said Wrice. “I love Amerie! [Amerie’s album] ‘All I Have’ is the f*cking blueprint, and then Brady is the reason I love singing. So, thank you.”
Not much is known about Wrice’s upcoming album. However, in piecing together bread crumbs left across her X (formerly Twitter) page, it is easy to paint a broad picture.
In a snippet named “2AM” (available here), Wrice’s hot and heavy theme will be heard elsewhere on the project. Also, a blurbed tracklist (viewable here) photo suggests that the project will feature 15 total songs.
