Since the release of their debut project, Native Dreamer Kin, in 2014, JOSEPH has quickly gained a cult-like following across the country. Along the way, the musicians earned the title of the Pacific Northwest’s most captivating sibling act.
But to the dismay of supporters after dropping 2023’s The Sun, JOSEPH announced co-founder Allison Closner would be stepping away from the band, leaving the remaining sisters, Natalie and Meegan, with a difficult decision.
After careful consideration, the duo chose to move forward. With any drastic change comes a period of adjustment. However, this restructuring marked the start of an era of sonic innovation for Natalie and Meegan, with their upcoming album, Closer To Happy, being the result.
“‘Closer To Happy’ captures a period of profound upheaval, loss, and transformation — resulting in [JOSEPH’s] boldest and most vulnerable work to date,” reads the album’s liner notes.
Now off of their previous label, ATO Records, the group, by way of their own company Joseph Sounds and Nettwerk Music Group, left no artistic curiosity unexplored.
Co-producing alongside Luke Niccoli, on Closer To Happy, JOSEPH brings forth “a punchy new intensity to their [signature] guitar-heavy and harmony-driven sound.”
