Brighton, U.K. indie pop/dream pop band Fear of Men began in early 2011 as an extension of work Jessica Weiss was making for her art degree. The two art students started working toward a more pop sound in bedroom recordings, and eventually made a series of lo-fi demos designed to lure in other players to be in the band.

ZELLA DAYZella Day

Thursday, July 7
The Bowery Ballroom
New York City, New York

Presented by Steve Madden Summer Music Series

Los Angeles-based singer/songwriter Zella Day blends modern pop with a touch of Western Bohemian flair. A native of Arizona, she was raised in a small mountain town near Phoenix, where her parents ran a cafe and art space whose creative clientele helped to nurture her musical interests. Day first came to notice when her 2012 acoustic cover of the White Stripes’ “Seven Nation Army” began racking up the hits on YouTube. Soon she adopted a lusher, pop-oriented sound, which led some critics to refer to her as a happier-sounding Lana Del Rey.

He repeated the same process the following year resulting in the release of Vol. 2. The music was more stripped down and solitary than his previous releases and the tracks were generally recorded at home. In 2016, he remixed and reworked ten of the Bazan Monthly tracks to create his third proper solo LP Blanco.
