For well over a decade, Ms Banks has forged a lane for herself in the UK’s grime scene. Now with tracks such as “Bop Daddy,” “Dip,” “Snack,” and “Silhouette” under her belt, it is safe to say she’s accomplished her mission.
Even with the success she’s achieved, Ms Banks has not yet properly introduced herself to the world. But next year, Ms Banks plans to do just that by releasing her long-awaited debut studio album, SOUTH LDN LOVER GIRL.
“Everything in my career has led me up until this point,” writes Ms Banks on Instagram. “I dunno if I’ve ever felt ready, but I guess being ready is a choice, not a feeling. Even if I were to never drop another project again, I could go out happy knowing that I bared my all on this album.”
She went on to confirm that the project is partly a love letter to her fellow South London natives.
“This [album] represents who I truly am, how I really feel and all my thoughts, past, present & future,” added Ms Banks. “South [London] girls really do get a bad rep.”
In an exchange with a fan on X (formerly Twitter), Ms Banks addressed her discussion to put out her long-awaited studio release.
“I know debut [is] gonna sound crazy to some, but this is my 5th project,” she wrote. “I’ve always wanted to drop an album but had a lot of people in my ear that talked me out of it.”
Those projects include mixtapes 2014’s Once Upon A Grind, 2018’s The Coldest Winter Ever, and 2019’s The Coldest Winter Ever, Pt. 2, as well as her EPs 2014’s New Chapter, 2022’s Bank Statement, and her collaborative EP Mind Games with Wohdee, which dropped in August.
She continued: “[Debut album is] not just a title. But, in the same breath, I probably could’ve dropped [my debut] in 2019. Nevertheless, here we are.”
