Whether I'm popping in to an open mic night or…
Known for many things across the Tri-state area including his community activism through the organization Them Cloud Kids in which he co-founded, New Jersey bred recording artist Haze. (1/2 of The Ubuntu Theory) is taking some time to explore his sound outside of the duo with Eye4Eye and Nadus produced Neo-soul single, “I Like” featuring Eboni Pearce.
I had a chance to chat with Haze. about his new DoloFilmz and Abbstract directed video and more. Check out the brief interview below!
What was the inspiration behind the video?
This video was inspired by the theme of the song which aimed to capture the feeling of a “situationship.” Our generation often shies away from labels whether it be gender identity, sexual preference and in this case relationship status. I wanted to create a visual that showed the beauty, sensuality, and playfulness of sharing your love with a partner in a “situationship” but the also the confusion, hurt and negativity that can come from a lack of clarity in regards to boundaries and expectations.
I’m a big fan of Erykah Badu so she influences my music and artistry daily. Specifically her music video for Other Side of the Game was a source of inspiration to show the dynamic between two lovers who share genuine love but aren’t on the same page completely. The close shots and slow motion were prominent because I wanted the visual to be intimate and sensual without having to do to much.
What can fans expect from the EP?
This EP is my first so it will be an authentic representation of me as an artist, it is titled Clarity. I’ve performed for years and I am using this EP to showcase my journey of finding my sound as an artist. My art is used as means for me to to find Clarity in various situations in my life such as my purpose, passions, hardships, relationships (platonic and romantic), aspirations etc. This project will have songs that came from lessons I’ve learned and listening/singing them have helped me heal. I hope that this EP will help listeners find clarity in their own lives. You can expect smooth songs filled with emotion and vulnerability that you can listen to when you want to relax and vibe out and even some songs that you can dance too.

Whether I'm popping in to an open mic night or digital crate-digging for hours through my favorite digital streaming platform, finding indie artists is the name then telling their story is the game.
