Yesterday (December 1), the film industry descended on New York City. Directors, actors, and screenwriters alike gathered at Cipriani Wall Street for the 2025 Gotham Film Awards.
The evening’s biggest wins came by way of Paul Thomas Anderson’s One Battle After Another, which snagged Best Feature. Initially, critics expected the film to win in the six categories it was nominated for.
However, it was Akinola Davies Jr.‘s My Father’s Shadow and Jafar Panahi’s It Was Just An Accident that pulled off upsets. My Father’s Shadow took home Breakthrough Director and Lead Performance. It Was Just An Accident snatched Best Original Screenplay, Best International Feature, and Best Director.
In addition to the year’s categories, several pictures were bestowed with special tributes. The 2025 Visionary Tribute was awarded to Luca Guadagnino and Julia Roberts in relation to After The Hunt. The cast of Sinners was awarded the 2025 Ensemble Tribute. Frankenstein‘s Guillermo del Toro, Oscar Isaac, and Jacob Elordi were crowned with the 2025 Vanguard Tribute, while the 2025 Spotlight Tribute was awarded to Hedda, which stars Tessa Thompson.
The 2025 Director Tribute was placed upon Jay Kelly‘s Noah Baumbach; the 2025 Musical Tribute went to Song Sung Blue (starring Kate Hudson and Hugh Jackman), and lastly, Scott Cooper’s Springsteen: Deliver Me From Nowhere, starring Jeremy Allen White, was given the 2025 Cultural Icon Tribute.
