Gorillaz’s Performance Of ‘Clint Eastwood’ And ‘The Moon Cave’ On ‘Saturday Night Live’ Was An Exhilarating ‘Mountain World Tour’ Preview

Believe it or not, Gorillaz has never appeared as a featured performer on Saturday Night Live. Well, that was until this past weekend. After nearly thirty years, the beloved band made their highly anticipated debut on the late-night staple.

On March 7, Gorillaz, alongside a full band, choir, and featured guests, delivered an exhilarating set of The Mountain tracks. Gorillaz’s first performance of “Clint Eastwood” served as an appetizer for their upcoming The Mountain World Tour.

Accompanied by the track’s featured guest, Del the Funky Homosapien, warmed the crowd and viewers at home with Gorillaz’s signature blend of nonchalant alt-rock vocals and booming pops of rap.

Although the introduction from a quirky dressed Ryan Gosling (a callback to his “Cyclops” sketch) served as a funny attention grabber, once the song started, all focus was quickly snatched back by Gorillaz and Del the Funky Homosapien.

For the closing number, “The Moon Cave,” Gorillaz made it an all-out jam session, bringing out Asha Puthli, Black Thought, and Anoushka Shankar. Wrapped in warm live instrumentation, eclectic vocals, fierce bars, and their signature animated visuals, The Mountain World Tour will surely be a must-attend event.
