In the time of the virus, it’s hard not to question life as if it’s completely unfamiliar. It’s also hard to accept the fact that this is what modern life has become and the state of the world needs us to acknowledge it.

Gold Child’s third single “Modern Life,” from her new album, Far From You (via Terrible Records) is an upbeat tune with a dreamy chorus that profoundly translates the feeling of uncertainty.

The combination of her memorable songwriting with a dream-pop arrangement allows Gold Child to get her message across elegantly. Her voice drifts through slow guitars and swirling synths in the chorus and rests easily on a tight drum beat and keyboard in the verses.

She writes in an Instagram post, “[Modern Life] was born out of a moment of anxiety about the state of the world and being totally overwhelmed with the never-ending news cycle. As someone who is extremely sensitive, I have a really hard time not letting each terrifying headline really get to me,” continuing, “I can really get stuck in the cycle of doom scrolling. Funny enough, I wrote this song a few months before covid. Little did I know what the world had in store for us all!
