After a much-deserved hiatus, Frankie Cosmos is back. But instead of stringing supporters along, the indie-rock four-piece has jumped the gun, announcing their sixth studio album, Different Talking.
With three singles from the upcoming project already out (“Pressed Flower,” “Bitch Heart,” and “Vanity”), fans have a taste of what’s coming when it hit streaming platforms on June 27.
In typical fashion, member Greta Kline still holds the reins as the group’s primary songwriter. However, in a fresh, creative twist, Frank Cosmos has turned away from all external studio producers. Instead, Different Talking is arranged entirely by the band (Greta, Alex Bailey, Hugo Stanley, and Katie Von Schleicher).
“We’d go to any length to get Greta’s songs right,” said Von Schleicher in a statement. “She’s generous with songs, so we have a lot of freedom to arrange them. It’s a rare talent to have, with rare freedom given, and the course hasn’t changed.”
The group went on to describe the album as: “A collection of fragments and memories” and “a sturdy, worldly indie-rock record about aging and the passage of time that nonetheless manages to feel sharply current.”
