Music blogger Bri Woo recently held an in-depth sit down interview with New Jerusalem Records‘ founder and emcee Khalil Jibran for YouTube web series, Creative Control. Jibran, a native of Newark, New Jersey is creating a name for himself within the state’s underground music scene. Slated to perform live at the historic venue, Newark Symphony Hall, on Saturday, January 7th as part of the Jersey One Shot Concert presented by Marc John Jefferies, the dialogue grants you access to a world only the young rapper’s closest friends and family only know.
With a career beginning nearly five years ago, Jibran is no overnight sensation! With dozens of live performances in the Newark indie venue circuit following the release of his debut project #RainOnaSunday two years ago, pairing and collaboration with widely respected producer Trap Dan for the Trap Dan & Friends mixtape and guest appearance at our presentation of Samad Savage’s Some Odd World album release show in November of 2016, the future certainly looks bright for Jibran.
In this must watch interview, host Bri Woo asks Jibran about his Newark roots, the stigma of the City, obstacles he’s had to endure and more to which he responds,
“Coming up there wasn’t anybody I could see [as a role model]. It was more so, ‘he did this’ and he failed so now I know not to do that! By process of elimination that’s how a lot of my progress was made.”
