Ego Ella May is five years removed from breakout debut album, Honey For Wounds. Although the “Give A Little Room” singer has released several teaser bodies of work in the interim (Fieldnotes), fans want another full-length project.
Yesterday (September 5), Ego Ella May confirmed her sophomore studio album is on the way. While details surrounding the project remain secret, fans should expect the follow-up “in early 2026.”
To appease supporters, Ego Ella May shared the lead single, “What We Do,” from the forthcoming album. Co-produced with South London vocalist, multi-instrumentalist, and producer Wu-Lu, “What We Do” serves as an enticing taste of what’s to come.
On the Wu-Lu-produced tune “What We Do,” Ego Ella May rejects the “too cool to yearn” mindset while reclaiming the strength associated with emotional vulnerability in a healthy romance. In the official video, directed by Jelani Pomell, Ego Ella May spreads a different kind of intimate love out to her close companions.
“You get me going / Keep me pining for you / This distant longing / Such a hard thing to do / In the morning / Gotta message from you / Can’t wait no longer / Need to get me to you / When we’re reunited / Oh, I can’t hide it / Gets me excited what we do,” sings May.
In a statement shared with ENVERT, Ego Ella May spoke about the inspiration behind the record.
“This song came about when I first intentionally started making this album,” said May. “I was away with my band at Real World Studios in Bath; such a lovely space to write and commune with my team, but I was desperately missing my partner.”
She continued: “So I wrote about how excited I was to be reunited with him! It’s such a groovy, fun song, and I don’t usually get the chance to write those, so I wanted the subject matter to be light and reflect the feel of the music.”
