Dirty Projectors’ new music video for single, “Inner World”, appropriately fits the otherworldly energy of the track. The song mixes lush, beautiful harmonies over laid back trap/ lo-fi hip hop style beats and acoustic guitars. The end result is a beautiful and masterful existential exploration of whether the song’s speaker will be able to overcome her current challenges, which she symbolizes through the metaphor of an undertow. Lines like, Where is it taking me?/ I can only know, yeah/ after the tides recede/ and we are free to grow” touch on the speaker’s innate ability to grow after overcoming.
The music video sees these questions posed against an ever-changing extraterrestrial background, which captures the moody and experimental tone of “Inner World.” Make sure to watch the music video for “Inner World” below!
“Inner World” is the opening track off of Flight Tower, the second in a series of five ambitious Dirty Projectors projects. Dirty Projectors will be releasing five EPs this year, and each will feature lead vocals from a different band member before all four singers trade verses on the final album.
