DAWN Signs With Merge Records & Announces New Album

DAWN by Alexander Le'Jo

DAWN (Dawn Richard) is returning to music! The multi-hyphenated talent took to social media to announce she inked a deal with indie label Merge Records and a new full-length album is soon to come.

Since splitting from Danity Kane and the dissolving Diddy’s Dirty Money, as a solo artist DAWN went on to release five full-length albums independently, the last being in the critically acclaimed album new breed in 2019. In the past few years, she has taken a step back from music to explore the worlds of culinary arts via her vegan pop-up food truck PapaTeds and visual animation with Adult Swim.

In a statement released by the creative, she opened up about what “I’m stoked to take the wild ride with Merge, and hopefully the world wants to jump on, too,” later adding, “I set out a long time ago to create a lane where genre was optional. Where a Black woman could thrive in electropop and Afrofuturism unapologetically.”

When asked about what fans should expect from the forthcoming full-length album she shared, “this record has been such a cathartic experience. To create an immersive story highlighting New Orleans culture through a futuristic lens has just been… a wild-ass ride. I plan to reshape the way people see and hear New Orleans.”
