Neo-soul singer Danielle Apicella is aiming to round out her sound with the release of new single, “Higher” and quite frankly it’s working. Self-described as “an old soul with a fresh new voice,” the Reflection Music Group recording artist as found her home in soul music. However, with “Higher” Apicella delicately ventures into the pop sphere.
The Suffolk County native’s latest track is a joyous blast for the musically past. “Higher” is a refreshing take on 1950s doo-wop previously reimagined in the mid-2000s examples being Solange‘s “Sandcastle Disco” and Christina Aguilera‘s “Candyman”.
When asked about the inspiration behind the track Danielle Apicella replied, “[Higher] is about bringing people higher rather than bringing people down with constant negativity.”
