Los Angeles trio Cryogeyser (Shawn Marom, Hunter Martinez, and Jeremy McLennan) spins a tale of controlled rage and bottled up emotion in new single Angry (via Terrible Records). This release grapples with impulse and choices, all while backed by a smooth and dreamy soundscape.
A tune straight from the band’s heart, Cryogeyser describes the inspiration behind the track; “[Angry] reminds me that while anger has power it can also be dangerous. We have the choice not to follow it.”
This single serves as their first release since their debut album Glitch last year. The band has ventured into a more psychedelic musical world on Angry. Opening with an 808 reminiscent drum beat and followed by an echoing guitar line, this song takes listeners floating up to outer space. The vocals lazily flow through the lyrics “ I’m angry but I’m still coming over / i know not to let rage lead / it only does me wrong”
Cryogeyser’s use of a softer approach on the heavy subjects tackled in Angry proves the band’s sophisticated grasp at emotional songwriting. The personal connection to grappling with inner demons is apparent. Although using a reflective and possibly repressed mode of delivering the harsh truths, Cryogeyser leaves it all unapologetically to speak for itself.
