Ryan Coogler’s ‘Sinners,’ And Paul Thomas Anderson’s ‘One Battle After Another’ Dominate The 2026 Critics Choice Awards Nominations List

Award season is quickly approaching. With two major film ceremonies (including New York Critics Circle Awards and the Gotham Film Awards) having already rolled out their winners, that leaves just a handful of other coveted events.

Yesterday (December 5), the Critics Choice Association (CCA) drummed up further anticipation with its full nomination list. Leading the 2026 Critics Choice Awards nomination pack is Ryan Coogler’s box office smash Sinners. The acclaimed picture snagged 17 total nods, including Best Picture, Cinematography, Best Production Design, Best Costume, Best Editing, Best Visual Effects, Best Sound, and Best Hair And Makeup. Coogler earned a nomination for Best Director, while leading man Michael B. Jordan is up for Best Actor. Wunmi Mosaku’s role earned her a nod for Best Supporting Actress.

Paul Thomas Anderson’s One Battle After Another is the second most-nominated film with 14 nods. The third most nominated picture is tied between Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein and Chloé Zhao’s Hamnet, with 11 nods each.

This year’s ceremony will include four competitive new categories, including Best Variety Series, Best Stunt Design, Best Casting and Ensemble, and Best Sound.

The 2026 Critics Choice Awards, hosted by Chelsea Handler, will be exclusively broadcast across E! and USA Network on Sunday, January 4, 2026, beginning at 7 p.m. Eastern from the Barker Hangar in Santa Monica, California. Find more information here.
