Detroit rapper Chris Orrick had quite the year in 2018, with the wide success of his album Portraits (via Mello Music Group) featuring singles like “Self-Portraits” and “Design Flaw”, we were not expecting for the emcee to circle back so soon with new music.
Late last night, Orrick surprised fans with a new playfully fun single, “Liquor Store Hustle”, while it is hard to take too serious with its kazoo and slide whistle tones, but like a motor city Balzac, describes the contemporary Detroit work-a-day, drink-all-night, order pizza, and watch tv lifestyle.
When asked about the inspiration behind the song, Orrick said, “it’s an ode, a lyric poem, an anthem to the short distance drunk drive for more booze that should never be taken. It’s internal dialogues, microwave pizza rolls, pawn stars, and private competitions against the five oh.”
