Merge Records’ roster has grown by one immense act. A note on the label’s official website revealed it inked a deal with Chicago band Case Oates.
The band (comprised of frontwoman Casey Gomez Walker, drummer Spencer Tweedy, guitarist Max Subar, fiddler Scott Daniel, and bassist Jason Ashworth) is set to release their debut album soon. But as a taste of that forthcoming body of work, Case Oates dropped its lead single, “Seventeen.”
Walker discussed the inspiration behind the track. “When you’re seventeen years old, everything feels like the most important thing in the world, yourself included,” she said. “And growing up in a small town [Eureka, Missouri], it’s even harder to see over the horizon. Every emotion feels big. This is a song about making it past that feeling.”
