Car Seat Headrest’s latest original studio album, Making A Door Less Open, will celebrate its fifth anniversary this coming May. But soon enough, the indie rock band will treat supporters to their highly anticipated follow-up, The Scholars.
With the forthcoming project’s over ten minute world building lead single, “Gethsemane,” it is clear Car Seat Headrest has a lot of creative energy to share. In a statement, the group talk about the music fantasy supports will be diving into come May 2.
The Scholars is crafted about a fictional college campus Parnassus University. One each track, The Scholars lasers into a make believe student or staff member. Across the nine track body of work every tune examines “tales of life, death, and rebirth.”
“Each night, instead of dreams, she encounters the raw pain and stories of the souls she touches throughout the day,” said CSH founder and member Will Toledo. “Reality blurs, and she finds herself taken deep into secret facilities buried beneath the medical school, where ancient beings that covertly reign over the college bring forth their dark plans.”
Immediately following The Scholars’ release, Car Seat Headrest will hit the road to perform it in front of US audiences. Continue below for the confirmed release date, tracklist, supporting tour dates, and more for Car Seat Headrest’s album, The Scholars.

Supporting Tour
At this time, Car Seat Headrest has confirmed nine dates for their The Scholars Tour. In a note shared to Instagram (viewable here), Toledo promised that should his health permit they Car Seat Headrest could expand their tour.
“We’re also announcing some more live dates in support of the new album,” he wrote. “As my health is an ongoing process of rebuilding and recovery [following fight with COVID-19], we have planned our touring schedule conservatively this year, in order to ensure that we can reliably travel and perform in everything we commit to.”
He continued: “Therefore, outside of a small number of festivals that have not announced lineups yet, the shows you see here will be what you get this year. If you are anywhere near these cities but are waiting to see if we announce a closer show – we probably won’t. Sorry about that, and with good fortune, we will be able to continue to expand our routes in years to come.”
